STUDENT PATROL/SSHHH!! CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED GMIT Student’s Union - in conjunction with GMIT management - have just rolled out their residential support scheme against Anti-social behaviour in the local estates; The Student Patrol.
This patrol is organised by the Students’ Union and is made up of GMIT students. The students operate a hotline service which local residents can call if they witness anti-social behaviour and wish to report it.
GMIT SU Vice president Alan Doherty said, “After the success of the scheme last year, I felt it was very important to go ahead with it again and continue to improve relations between the college, students and the local residents.
Through working with our local Garda Liaison Officer, and Residential Liaison Officer, it helps improve the standard of living for local residents and stop ASBO’s been issued to students which can lead to a criminal conviction which in turn stops them obtaining visas to Australia and the United States for example.
From my feedback, local residents were impressed with the service last term so we want to continue it and improve it where possible.”
The Student patrol runs from Sunday to Thursday and the hotline number is available from 9.30p.m – 3.30a.m. The hotline number is 085-2388993.

GMIT Students’ Union warns students to take security precautions
In light of the recent burglaries in the Renmore area, GMIT SU is urging all students to ensure they keep their doors and windows closed and locked and to remain mindful of the dangers of leaving their properties exposed and unattended.
Students should also contact their landlords to ensure the necessary security mechanisms are in place to protect their rented properties from potential burglary.
GMIT Students’ Union President Joe O’Connor said:
“It is clear from the incidents of the past few days that students returning to college are being targeted by burglars, and it is vital that all students take any relevant precautions to protect themselves, their properties and their possessions over the coming weeks.
We would urge any students who may have information on the incidents which have taken place to contact ourselves here in the Students’ Union or the Garda Siochana immediately.”

QuickiesOne day, a man came home and was greeted by his wife dressed in a very Sexy nightie. ‘Tie me up,’ she purred, ‘and you can do anything you want.’ So he tied her up and went golfing.
A woman came home, screeching her car into the driveway, and ran into the house. She slammed the door and shouted at the top of her lungs, ‘Honey, pack your bags. I won the lottery!’ The husband said, ‘Oh my God! What should I pack, beach stuff or mountain stuff?’ ‘Doesn’t matter,’ she said. ‘Just get out.’
Mother Superior called all the nuns together and said to them, ‘I must tell you all something. We have a case of gonorrhea in the convent.’ ‘Thank God,’ said an elderly nun at the back. ‘I’m so tired of chardonnay.’
