The 80th performance of the MBC Follies
"Summer Road Trip" is sure to entertain you.
Come join the fun and excitement as we cruise
around the country! Please plan to attend the public performance on Friday, August 5 or the
performance on Saturday, August 6 for the MBC members and their guests.
Follies Chair Mimi O'Leary Franz welcomes back director Brian Henry for his 14th season,
and musical director Rich Chiarappa and his band for their 36th Follies!
Saturday night tickets are on sale in the front lobby. Friday night tickets can be purchased
from the Front Desk. Friday night is casual, open to the public and the young and young at
heart. Saturday night is black tie optional and a gala buffet dinner will be served promptly
at 6:30pm. Please stop by and participate in the Silent Auction. Kate Nann DeCarlo and the
entire Silent Auction committee have been hard at work to offer a wide variety of items for
purchase. Come check out some of the new items that Kate has for this year's Auction! Most
of the Silent Auction items have been graciously donated by Madison Beach Club Members.
Proceeds from "Summer Road Trip" will be donated to various charities through the
Madison Foundation. It is a longstanding MBC tradition that members either become a
Patron of the Follies and/or purchase an advertisement in our playbill. Please see the
Follies section of the MBC website for advertising forms.
I hope to see you during the next three weeks of planning and performing... And I
sincerely hope you enjoy this year’s "Summer Road Trip".
Best Follies Ever!

Summer 2016 is off to a great start at the MBC courts! We have had great participation in all events to date and look forward to this trend continuing throughout the summer. Here are some highlights of the season so far:
The Men's Member-Member tournament was held on Saturday of opening weekend. Rich Goldfeder and Kevin Glazier were victori-ous. They defeated Tom Fitzgerald and Peter Evans.
The 4th of July Mixed Doubles tournament had the largest turnout in recent years! The winning team of Meredith Crowther and Jim Narracci defeated Kristy White and Dick Grant in two sets. Susan Miller and Joe Goclowski won the consolation finals against Laura Lenahan and Dave Allen in 3 sets.
Our Parent-Child Tournament turnout had the most teams ever! It was a great day of tennis before the rain cut the afternoon short. Fortunately, there were enough complet-ed rounds to have MBC teams qualify for the Family Clas-sic. Here are the teams who qualified for the weekend of July 30: Tyler Narracci/Jim Narracci - 10& under Parent/Child Patrick Hennessy/John Hennessy - 12&under Father/Child
Claire Langille/Brian Langille - 14&under Father/Child Hayley Beecher/David Beecher- 18&under Father/Child Theo Gleason/Christine Gleason - 12&under Mother/Child Jamie Watkins/Laurie Watkins - 14&under Mother/Child The always popular Davis Cup Tourna-ment drew players of all levels and proved to be a very competitive weekend of tennis. Greetings from the Beach! We just had our best ever Sand Castle contest. Seven teams came out, all with great enthusiasm and imagina-tion. It was a very close contest, but the children en-joyed using their talents to create great sand structures and appreciated a popsicle in the end. It’s a summer Olympics year, so summon your inner Olympian and participate in the swim to Tuxis Island on August 21st at 11:30am! The highlight of the summer for the Beach Committee is the Swim and Running Races on August 20th at 9:30am.
This is always a family fun day as children, and even the lifeguards, show off their swimming skills. We are blessed to have so many wonderful families at the Club right now, so we hope to see as many families as possible show up for this memory making day. We would be remiss if we did not remind you of the Adult Bean Bag Contest spon-sored by the Beach Committee. We have another contest planned for August 21st at 3:30pm. The Committee would also like to take this time to remind members that after 5:00pm you are required to put away your chairs and umbrellas. Thank you for your cooperation as this prolongs the life of the chairs and umbrellas. Friendly Reminder - Please Sign in at the Beach Hut when coming to the Club. Thank you for your support. MBC Member Art Show
Ever wonder who among us is spending a sunny day inside sculpting, painting or drawing? Did you know that some of MBC's best tennis players, sailors, and swimmers are also gifted artists?
For nearly a decade MBC artists have displayed their work at the Madison Beach Club Art Show for all to see and for the rest of us to find out who the artists are among us!
If you are an artist and have yet to show your work, why not participate in the MBC art show this year? Submit your painting, drawing or sculpture to the MBC Art Com-
mittee on Wednesday, August 10 on the Main porch. Or if you just like art, come to the:

Another great regatta outing for the Madison Beach Club! In our first event with
sailors in all 5 (!) fleets, we saw many successful races, a podium finish, and a
qualification for the Midget Challenge!
Despite ominous clouds, the weather was fantastic with light to moderate
breeze throughout the day. The sun started to poke through in the afternoon
and everyone enjoyed a cookout at the Niantic Bay Yacht Club after racing.
In the Opti Red fleet, Sam Judson earned a 2nd place medal over the course of
five races. John de Chabert and Teke Helms competed in the same combined-
division fleet, facing off against sailors in the Blue and White fleets, respectively.
Theo Gleason and Nate Judson tried their hand in the Opti Green fleet for four
races, including a MBC victory in race 3 by Theo! Quinn Lee and Eli Gleason fin-
ished 6th out of 28 boats in the 420 fleet, which qualifies them to compete in
the ECSA Midget Challenge regatta at the US Coast
Guard Academy (August 10).
Special thanks go to Katie de Chabert for trailering the
rib to Niantic, Kara Judson for trailering the rib back to
MBC, Josh Gleason for trailering the Optis both ways,
and Orianna Strom and Emily (Judson babysitter/driver)
for providing on-land support!
This was a huge logistical effort by the parents, and I
cannot thank you all enough. The kids had a great time
and gained a ton of experience. The sailors' hard work is
clearly paying off, and that wouldn't be possible without
your support.
Best,
Kevin
