One of the most recognised Sound Designers of film today, Ben Burtt was born on 12th July 1948 in Jamesville, New York.Some of the films he worked on:

Burtt is thought to be the pioneer of modern sound design. Most of the sounds that were being used in Science Fiction films had been created electronically but Burtt wanted to create sounds for himself. His most well known sound effects are the light sabre, the blaster and the voice of R2-D2 in the Star Wars films. He is the voice of Wall-E in the Pixar film of the same name and he created the voice of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial from the breathing of his wife who was in bed with a cold.
Burtt is famous for his use of the Willhelm scream which originated in the film The Charge at Feather River.
He has cameos in both Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace.
He is responsible for most of the famous sound effects used in film today.
