Introduction Software Testing SOFTWARE TESTING Unit – 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 INTROD UCTION TO SOFTWARE TESTING Testing is an essential activity in software life cycle. The software testing is an important activity carried out in order to improve the quality of the software.  Definition Software testing is a critical element of software quality assurance and represents the ultimate review of specification, design, and coding. According to Glen Myers, the testing objectives are: • Testi ng is a proc ess of execu ting a pro gram with inten d of f indin g an error. • A good tes t case is on e that has hig h probab ili ty of fi ndi ng an un dis cov ere d error. • A success ful t est is on e th at u ncove rs an d as yet undis covered error. Testing Principles Eve ry sof twa re eng ine er mus t app ly fol lowing tes tin g pri nci ple s while  performing the software testin g. Tests should be planned long before testing begins.
