– Social: livelihood - health, education, family life routine; behavioural change.

– Economic: financial impact; incurred cost – across aboard in terms of income expenditure.

•Background:

– One of the most pronounced impacts observed is the affected livelihood related to agricultural, aqua-cultural activities, and those who are involved in other outdoor-based occupations.

– Livelihood is affected due to decreased productivity caused by haze.

– On the other hand, there are also impacts on the community because of limited routine activities and reduced social interactions.

“INTEGRATED UNDERSTANDING AND INTERVENTIONS TOWARDS HAZE

MANAGEMENT IN MALAYSIA: A SOCIO-ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE”

We lead Research Proposal

•The primary objectives of this research are:

1) To identify the most affected and vulnerable communities due to haze; 2) To analyse the various impacts of haze on the socio economic and sociocultural aspects of the identified communities; 3) To assess the understanding of the public on Air

Pollution Index (API); 4) To assess the psychosocial behaviours of the public in response to haze; and 5) To recommend multidimensional interventions and strategies to address those impacts.

We lead Research Proposal

•In order to achieve these objectives, social research techniques which include the combination of both qualitative and quantitative approaches will be employed.

•The research will consider dimensions in:

– Malaysian Quality of Life (MQLI), – Malaysian Well-Being Index (MWBI), and – Social Impact Assessment (SIA) to analyse the

whole scenarios of aspects of community and livelihood affected by haze.

– Health Belief Model
