+Opportunities
Public Administrators and elected leaders have to find new ways to reach constituents and get their message out.
More importantly, public administrators need to connect with constituents.
Social media allows you to talk directly to your constituents.
People want news.
They want information.
They want to connect.
They want to hear from trusted sources.

+Common reasons for not exploring opportunities in Social Networks
We can’t control it
We don’t want to encourage negative comments
We don’t want to see comments on our videos
Immigration or other sensitive topics might come up
Our board/council/regents are afraid
We might be held responsible for negative comments
We don’t have the personnel to manage these tools

+Open Up Government
Jeff Jarvis’ Recommendations for Government to Follow Google’s Example:
Now that we have the technological means to open up government and make every action transparent, we must insist on a new era of openness.
Why should we have to ask for information from our government?
Every action of government must be open, searchable, and linkable by default.
Officials and agencies should blog and engage in open conversations with constituents.
+Government 2.0 or OpenGov
Philosophy that spans:
how government should work for people,
• social media and social networks and cloud computing,
• mobile technology,
• open source and open technology/interoperability,
• and even topics like cybersecurity and privacy of citizen data.
