Social Media

“Social Media are online communications in which individuals shift fluidly and flexibly between the role of audience and author. TO do this, they use social software that enables anyone without knowledge of coding, to post, comment on, share or mash up content and to form communities around shared interests” – Joseph Thornley PRO PR

Social Media StrategyAllot yourself time to go through social media strategy process and do your research. There are dozens of blogs and free webinars that are helpful for non profits looking to start or enhance their social media presence.

The first step in your strategy is to think about your audience – is this going to be for your mentors, your mentees, both? Is this going to be used primarily for recruitment or for public awareness about your program?

What social media platforms are you going to use?

How much time can you designate to Social Media?

Recap

“For companies, resistance to social media is futile. Millions of people are creating content for the social Web. Your competitors are already there. Your customers have been there for a long time. If your business isn’t putting itself out there, it ought to be.” – Business Weekly February 19th, 2009
