The Home-buying Guide
We don’t buy a house regularly so the process can seem a littledaunting so we have laid out the steps below:
• Get your finances in order, check how much you can borrow and what deposit is needed and agree a mortgage in principle• Reserve your home so no-one else will be able to; you will have to pay either a £1000 or £500 (HTB) fee• Find a solicitor who then takes care of all the legal aspects for you; speak to our Team who will be able to help with this• Arrange your mortgage and survey (which involves a fee); we can put you in touch with a mortgage adviser if you like• Once the legal work is complete, your solicitor will exchange contracts• Complete; the keys are yours and you can move in!

The Finer Details

Victorian Pottery Restoration
The area around this site originally formed part of an extensive unenclosed lowland common with a post-medieval industrial history of lignite mining that encouraged and enabled Bovey’s pottery industry to develop from the late 18th century onwards, finally closing in 1957. This site contains buildings associated with the development and growth of the pottery during the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings still contain louvered box vents, rails of the former tramway, original brick floors and pivot windows.
Work commenced on the buildings in late July where support scaffolding was erected to the North and South gables. We then installed temporary timber supports to the trusses which has enabled extensive remedial works to the masonry of the external walls including repointing, stitching along with the rebuilding of some areas entirely. The existing windows were removed, check reveals created and new slate cills installed.
The repairs to the trusses are ongoing involving strengthening with new timber sections to match the existing common rafters.
The next stage is to remove the roof slates to allowing access to the South East corner and rebuild. Once this has been completed we will be able to start underpinning and install the new ground slabs.
