PK & Kindergarten Corner

Pk Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ The

Lorax

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by making hats and Lorax characters. We also read Green Eggs and Ham and participated in a whole group cooking activity. The green eggs and ham were yummy!

K celebrates Dr Seuss Day

Several Kindergarteners are

reading AR books and taking

test. Natalie Slaven in Mrs.

Broussard’s room has met her

goal of 10 points and Damon

Caldwell in Mrs. Woods’ class

has met his goal of 15 points.

Way to go Damon and Natalie!

For a Valentine Treat,

kindergarten went to see the

play Aladdin and lunched at

Millennium Park.

On St Patrick’s Day a graph was

done in Math using Lucky

Charms. In Reading, we are

learning about plants and seeds.

We are adding and subtracting in

Math.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade students had the

opportunity to attend a field trip to

the Calcasieu Parish Courthouse, the

Clerk of Court’s Office, and the

Calcasieu Correctional Center. This

experience greatly enhanced their

application of the D.A.R.E. principles

that they have learned this year.

Fourth Grade

Ready for the AR Country Dance!

4th

grade had a busy nine weeks!

They prepared for the upcoming

LEAP test and even got to dissect

owl pellets!

Third Grade

Third grade classes had a blast

drawing and labeling the “Human

Digestive System”. One student

lied down on the paper, while the

others traced the body. They

worked as a team to draw and

label each part in the Digestive

System. What a great learning

experience!

festivities on April 28th. Students in grades 3 – 5

participated in a costume contest with a Louisiana theme.

Sauce, Louisiana brochure, Blue Dog, and many more. Then

we all went outside for a grand parade with Kings and

Queens from each class.

Student Leadership Team

Student Council made Christmas cards for deployed troops. We also held our annual food drive, which RWV students collected over 1500 items for the needy! Look for the RWV Student Leadership booth at Tuten Park on April 26th for an Arbor Day celebration. Also to wrap up the year, SLC will be hosting our first annual "RWV's Got Talent" talent show!!

Music Notes

We are enjoying our student teacher, Ms. Megan Voorhies. Ms. Voorhies has been doing a great job teaching the children at R. W. Vincent. Most of the PreK, K, and 2

nd graders have figured out how to sing “Hello, Ms. Voorhies”

instead of “Hello, Mrs. White”! We are continuing to listen to music of a great composer during each music lesson. So far this nine weeks we have listened to Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Aaron Copland, and Johann Sebastian Bach. It is amazing to listen to the students in each class describe the music and explain what they think about while listening. Also, we’ve been learning new skills, songs, and singing games in music while practicing familiar songs, games, and known elements of music as well as preparing new concepts and unknown elements of music. We are continuing to work hard on our music for the annual District Music Assessment on March 20, at Lake Charles-Boston Academy of Learning. We are preparing three pieces for our performance, Sing We Hallelujah, by Franz Joseph Haydn, In My Dreams, by Ruth Watson Henderson, and Al Shlosha D’Varim, arranged by Allan Naplan. We are looking forward to singing for the judges, analyzing and singing the unknown piece in the sight-reading room, and getting to eat lunch and play at the park in the afternoon. We’ll continue to rehearse after District Music Assessment for our performance at the LAKE Festival (which will include three new pieces that we will sing with all the other choirs there) on Saturday, May 3 and for our recital for 3

rd and 4

th graders. Information will be sent home regarding these

activities after our Assessment activities are finished.
