TRANSCRIPT
Title of the technology development : Soaker Internal Visbreaking Technology
IPR Status:
Application: It is an important process in refinery for production of fuel oil from low value residues.
Salient Technical Features:
• Major novelty of this technology is the design of the soaker internals and its arrangement inside the reactor.
• The fuel oil produced is of better quality in terms of stability.
• Energy is saved as the same conversion is achievable at lower temperature.
• Better temperature profile is maintained.
• Due to lower severity of the process, handling of plant is safer and easy.
• Longer time on stream due to less coke formation inside the soaker drum.
Level/Scale of Development: The technology is ready to use
Environmental Consideration: This advanced soaker technology is used to revamp the existing soaker visbreaking unit in refinery. So there is no issue for the environment to implement this technology
Status of Commercialization: So far this technology has been commercialized in
three Indian refineries, HPCL-Vizag, IOCL-Mathura and IOCL-Haldia.
Major Raw Materials to be Utilized: No major hardware is required to commercialize this technology. Only perforated plates are placed inside the existing hollow soaker.
Major Plant Equipment and Machinery Required: This technology is used to the existing hollow soaker visbreaking unit in refinery.
Techno-Economics:
This technology increases production of LGP, gasoline and diesel by maximum 2, 7 and 12 wt% respectively. LPG is used as cooking gas, gasoline is used as transportation fuel and diesel has wide range of usages in our society including in agricultural sector. Refinery gets considerable amount of revenue by implementing this
technology. Summary of the commercialization and economical benefit are presented
in table given below.
