Directors Letter – February 2017 It takes a lot to run a Senior Center! We can’t do it without YOU, our members, donors and volunteers. I am in awe of how much you love and believe in SVSC. You get involved in so many ways. I love how someone sees a need then finds ways to take care of it! Carol Kerezturi volunteers in the kitchen. The ceiling lights in the kitchen kept going out even with repeated changing bulbs. So she and her husband Johnny brought in their friend, Jerry, a retired electrician. He agreed to install new ballasts and lights. Carol and Johnny agreed to pay for them! Pretty cool! Ralph & Grace Scheidegger used to be very involved in our senior center. They didn’t have children so they named Sno-Valley Senior Center (SVSC) as one of the non-profits to receive a portion of their estate. In January, we received a check for $100,000 from their

estate! This will build our reserves and supplement the funds we’ve already raised for a new van with a lift! We hope to get a new one soon!

The city of Carnation gave us a first time, one time gift of $5,000! We are so grateful to the city council for their support. Also, King County council member, Kathy Lambert was tasked with making major reductions to the King County Budget but she managed to maintain $25,000 in it for SVSC for 2017!

We are so grateful to the many who give to empower our local senior citizens to lead healthy, enriched lives. There are many simple things you can do to support us!

Feel free to call or e-mail me anytime! Lisa Yeager, Director, 425-333-4152, ext 1, [email protected]

We have changed the Birthday Lunch Date! Now on the 3rd

Friday of the month! All Members with a Birthday this

Advisory Council Spotlight– Jeff Wolf: Board Treasurer Jeff graduated from Wester Washington University with a degree in Human Resource Management with an emphasis in Business Communications and Industrial Organizational Psychology. After graduation, Jeff had a successful 20 year career in the banking industry beginning with US Bank where he was VP in Commercial Banking, HomeStreet Bank where he helped to design and implement their Business Banking department, then he went to Pacifica Bank as VP of Business Banking. From there, Jeff became the CFO of Pacific Northwest Fitness and helped launch a start-up franchise company known as Thrive Community Fitness– a franchise company focused on developing fitness centers throughout

the Northwest. After 3 years, Jeff became the President of TCF Franchising, Inc. After selling his ownership of TCF Franchising, Jeff has spent the past 5 years being the Owner and Manager of Duvall Fitness in Duvall, Washington. Jeff sold the company in July of 2016 and is now a CFO and Management consultant in the greater Seattle area. Jeff has been married to his wife Michelle for 28 years and the two of them enjoy sharing many adventures with their 3 children, Renee, Julia and Marcus. His hobbies include mountain biking, snow skiing, upland bird hunting, scuba diving and mountaineering.

Attend an event! It’s a great way to introduce your friends and family to us and it provides funds for our programs! In February, we have Rainbow Bingo on Feb. 10; Wine & Chocolate tasting on Feb. 18 and cake auction on March 11.

Become a member or even better become a Lifetime Member and never pay dues again! In 2016, Janet Kautz and Caroline Butler became Lifetime members and will have their names added to our plaque in the hallway.

Rent the Center for a family or business event. It’s a great place to celebrate a milestone birthday, anniversary or hold a memorial service or wedding!

Sponsor an event. Sponsors underwrite the costs so 100% of proceeds go to our programs! Chris & Sandy Vattaks of Community Business Services are sponsoring the Feb. bingo because they know it’s a great way to advertise their business and support their community. Vince and Claudia Kaelin and family are sponsoring the cake auction as a way for their whole family to support our mission. You can sponsor in honor of someone or to advertise.

Give a Legacy Gift. Name us as a beneficiary in your life insurance or will. Volunteer! We have short term (help with an event planning or day of) and long term to help with

reception, thrift shop or kitchen. We need occasional on-call help with yardwork, building mainte-nance, driving or as a substitute for volunteers out temporarily.

Attend activities. We are here for you so we can all live healthy, enriched lives. So come enjoy our family atmosphere at lunch, or one of fitness classes or hobby clubs. Help us spread the word about what an incredible, fun activity center we are!

Save the Date: Health and Wellness Fair! Thursday, April 6 10am-2pm

Join us for presentations, booths, and giveaways at our Annual Health and Wellness Fair!

There will be providers from our own center like Donna Morton with Free Chair Massages, as well as medical

Donations The Sno-Valley Senior Center is a place that sees 50-100 people a day come through its doors and offers a plethora of events, not only for our seniors but for the community-at-large. Our annual budget is approximately $550,000 for operations, and maintenance, of our center. We are a thriving place that offers connectivity, fun, a great homemade lunch every day (just look at the menu!), options for staying active mentally and physically, volunteer engagement and more. We often see folks every day of the week because this is such an important part of their lives. Your financial support is always welcome. We primarily serve Duvall, Carnation and Fall City and are thankful for the support that each of those communities offers. This Valley is quite special and we are proud to be an important part of it. You can donate through our website, www.snovalleysenior.org, stopping by the center, or using the envelope provided in this newsletter.

Rampathon 2017 Applications accepted January 1-March 1 Each year since 1983, Master Builders Association and community volunteers head to a home site somewhere in King or Snohomish county to build a ramp, for free! Our neighbors in need deserve the same freedoms that we have. Wheelchair access ramps are their link to the beautiful community that we all share! Look for applications to be at the info table right when you walk into the center, or you can ask Kira or Caroline for one!

If you have the “drive” to help others, a clean driving record and some daytime availability, call (206) 748-7588 or email Hilary at [email protected] to find out more!

In 2016, Re-in-Carnation brought in $63,000, all of which goes towards Sno-Valley Senior Center! You can help by shopping at Re-in-Carnation or donating items!

Starbucks Treats Monday-Friday Our center is lucky to be a part of the Harvest Roll-Out program, which allows us to pick up the extra food that Starbucks has from the day before, so that it doesn’t go to waste! We were one of the first test sights for this program and it has been a huge success across the state and country! We are grateful that Richard Pavilon goes to pick up the food every day he is here.

Meals On Wheels This is a great delivery service we can offer through Sound Generations; qualifying home-bound seniors and others needing frozen prepared meals. Registration is necessary. There is currently a waiting list, please see Kira if you are interested in receiving meals. You can apply online at soundgenerations.org or call the Center at 425-333-4152 for more information. We call clients for orders twice a month and volunteers deliver meals every other Wednesday.
