at Gothuruthu on 20-09-2015 for the members of Greenland

Residents Association .

Associations at Vaniakadu,N.Paravur on 26-09-2015.

SNIMS observing National/International Health days.SNIMS observed the by conducting

an Awareness class at Anganawadi 34 at Puthenvelikara On

12/09/2015. Around 40 mothers & Children attended .

Mr.Satheesh Chandran Nair, Senior Health Inspector introduced the

programme and speakers. Dr Anantha Ghosh took the class on

Nutrition.

Dr Krishnan Nair detailed the importance of Nutrition of Mothers &

Children. Ms. Indira, Health Inspector& Geethu JPHN were part of the

eam.

A programme was conducted at block Panchayat conference hall in

Parakadavu.This was a joint venture of Dept of Psychiatry &

Community Medicine.

  Dr.Ashok Mathew, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

conducted class on causes for suicide. Mrs.Soji, Clinical Psychologist

conducted class on the role of Anganwadi workers in the preventionof suicide in the Community.

Dr.P.Gopalakrishnan, Associate Professor in Community Medicine,

associated the relation between excess alcohol consumption and

suicide and ways to prevent. Mr.Satheesh Chandran, Sr. Health

nspector & Mr. Maneesh, Social worker were part of the organizers.

Suicide prevention day

On World Suicide Prevention Day September 10 th 2015, the

World Health Organisation (WHO) called for collective efforts to raise

awareness about suicide and reduce the stigma associated with it.

SNIMS joined with Block Panchayat and ICDS of Parakadavuin observing the World Alzheimer's Day by conducting an awareness

class on Alzheimer's disease. Dr.Krishnan nair & Mr Satheesh

Chandran led the session.

The World Heart Day is observed on 29th September,

annually to create healthy heart environment. The theme of the World

Heart Day is "Heart Choices not Hard Choices" which focuses on the

benefits of low salt diet with the aim to reduce the risk of

cardiovascular diseases.

Screening for Blood pressure was done on 21/9/15 by

SNIMS, at KSRTC bus station, Angamaly with the help of Cardiac

Society of India. Around 600 persons were screened by Dr. Philip

Thomas & Dr. Jaydeep Menon .

An awareness class was conducted at the Gram panchayat Hall in

which Dr Krishnan nair and Mr Satheesh Chandran Nair from SNIMS

discussed the various aspects of the problem and means of

prevention. Around 50 persons participated. Rabies being a 100%

fatal disease, let us all join the global fight against rabies on this Day.

An Intermedico Festival ELENORK is planned by KMA in

association with College Unions of 2014-15 is to be held atGovernment Medical College, Kottayam.

Power of plantsA variety of plants in our diet could provide multiple

committee announced on 5-10 2015.William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura won for developing a new

drug, Avermectin a derivative of Ivermectin which has nearly

eradicated River Blindness and radically reduced the incidence of

Filariasis. They shared the award with Youyou Tu, who discovered

Artemisinin,a drug that has significantly reduced death rates from
