Snap June General election called – By Peter Crum On 19th of April Theresa May won backing from parliament for a snap general election on June 8th 2017. We thought it was odd because the next general election should have been in 2020. But the conservatives are in such a strong position that they hope to increase their number of MP’s. It’s a bit like a football team stopping the season as they are ahead in points?! But it could be risky as nobody knows what people will vote. We shall see……

Created and run by adults with a learning disability.

Update – Brandon Trust The deadline for organisations to write to replace Brandon Trust services has

William Shakespeare - By Tracy Roberts

He was born on 26th April 1564 and he died on 23rd April 1616. He was 52 years old when he died. Last year he celebrated 400 anniversary of his death. He wrote 37 plays. He was born in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire. The globe theatre is in London and was built in 1599. The theatre burned down in 1613. The globe theatre is one of the most famous theatres in the world because of William Shakespeare. He was an actor, part owner and wrote many plays which were performed there. They reopened it in 1997 and it took 10 years to build. Interesting fact – Peter Crum’s mum worked at the royal Shakespeare Company in the costume department.

  • Fire and Rescue Service - By Adrian Phipps and Peter Crum The Hereford and Worcester fire and rescue service is the statutory fire and rescue service covering Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the West Midlands region of England. The service was created in 1974 when Herefordshire and Worcestershire were merged to create the county of Hereford and Worcester. The service has 332 whole-time operational staff, 369 retained (part-time) staff, 21 Fire Control staff, as well as about 98 non-uniformed support staff.

Friday Lifelinks - Decoupage Course - By Lisa Perkins and Tracy Roberts The word decoupage comes from French “decouper,” meaning to cut out or cut from something. Decoupage may have been seen first in East Siberian tomb art where travelling tribes used cut out felts to decorate tombs. From Siberia, the practice came to China, and by the 12th century, (1100’s), cut out paper was being used to decorate lanterns, windows, boxes and other objects. In the 17th century, (1600’s), Italy, especially Venice, traded with the far East and so, the cut out paper decorations made their way into Europe. Friday Lifelinks have been taking part in a decoupage course. By the end of the course we will have made a plaque. What we did:

    • Sanded the plaque (A few times).

    • Painted a background colour.

    • Cut out design from napkins.

    • Glue the design on to the wood.

    • Design the word on the computer then glue that to the wood +put glue on the top to smooth the glue on top.

    • Varnish the plaque.

  • The best jockey - by Peter Crum In Great Britain national hunt racing, the title of champion jockey is given to the jockey who has ridden the most wining horses during a racing season. From the start of 1900 through to 1925, the award was given to the jockey who had ridden the most winners during a calendar year January to December. Tony McCoy was champion 20 times which is more than any other winner, he also recorded the most wins in a season, with 289 in the 2001 – 02 season. The award has been shared on three occasions in 1944-45 in 1968-69 and in 1981-82. Racing stopped for several years during world war2 which meant there was no champion jockey in 1943 or 1944

Bingo Aspire - By Laura Jolliffe Yesterday, I won bingo, I won with one line at the community hub I won a pair of socks, blue and white. For bingo each person has a card with rows of numbers. When a number is called you cross it out if you have it on your card. There are prizes for getting a line and the whole card or house. In big bingo places they call out using a machine with ball and a microphone. They often call out funny phrases like “Clickety click 66” or “5 and 9 the Brighton line whoop whoop”!! It can be fun to play – But watch out, Gala bingo can be very quick and difficult. You could play

    • At the hub - ask when the next one is.

    • Gala bingo - in Hereford Berrington Street.

    • Fownhope village hall.

    • Leominster Clifton bingo South street.

    • Online.

Number Puzzle – By Adrian Phipps. I had £10 in my wallet. When I was out I used £3 to buy myself a large writing pad and pen. Then, walking around town, I was lucky! I bumped into my best friend, Brian, who paid me back the £5 which he had borrowed last week. Before going home, I had some shopping to do, so I drew £25 out of the bank. Then I went to Morrison’s and done my shopping, which came to £27. How much did I have left when I got home?
