Installing Snap and Send
To install Snap and Send, insert the CD into your CD ROM drive. If installation does not startautomatically, follow the steps:
1. Hold down the Windows (Start) button on your keyboard and press the R key.The Windows button is between the Control and Alt buttons on the left side of theSpacebar.
2. Type D:\LAUNCH.EXE (Where “D” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.

Starting Snap and Send
Snap and Send is a collection of 3 programs: Photo Saver, Picture Jar and Learn Digital Imaging.
To start Photo Saver, double click on the Photo Saver icon on your desktop or click Start \Programs \ ValuSoft \ Photo Saver.
To start Picture Jar, click Start \ Programs \ Jar Picture \ Photo Manager.
To start Learn Digital Imaging, click Start \ Programs \ ValuSoft \ Learn Digital Imaging.
Photo Saver
Photo Saver is a versatile program that helps you organize your photos, make backups of them
and automatically resizes them when you email them.
Menu Bar
Locate
When Photo Saver starts up for the first time, it searches for all images in
the My Documents folder on your computer. Pressing the Locate buttoncauses Photo Saver to search again. The progress of the search is
displayed in the lower left corner of the screen.
DisplayThe Display drop down menu lets you choose which folders or
picture sets to view.
Slideshow
The Slideshow button lets you view a slideshow of the images in one of thefolders on your hard drive
Burn CD
The Burn CD button allows you to save your images to one or more CD’sor DVD’s. You can also make labels for the disks.
The Email button allows you to send selected images via email using either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, whichever is installed on your
computer.

Settings
The Settings button opens a window with three tabs. The Locate tab lets youadd additional drives and folders to the All Pictures window. The Email tab
lets you customize how Photo Saver emails images. The User Interface tab
lets you customize the colors of the Photo Saver interface.
Search
The Search window lets you search for images on your hard
drive. Using Advanced Search lets you search using a number of meta tag properties, such as aperture, F number, ISO speed,
etc.
Windows
All Pictures Window
The All Pictures window lists all of the folders in the MyDocuments folder on your hard drive that have images in
them. You can add additional drives and folders to thedisplay in the Settings window.
When you start Photo Saver for the first time, it looks in the My Documents folder for any
folders that have images in them. It then displays the full path name of the folder. Typically thiswill have two entries in it:
+ C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents+ C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures
Notice that the word All appears in the Display drop down
menu. Click on the down arrow to display the other options.Select My Documents from the list. The C:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\My Documents folder and any mapped drivesand subfolders are listed. Selecting My Pictures highlights the
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\MyPictures folder. Select All from the list or Back to all pics to
remove the highlights.
Click on the + next to each entry to expand them. Dependingon how you have copied images onto your hard drive, you may
or may not have additional folders under each entry. Click onthe – sign next to the folder name to collapse it. If a folder does
not have a + sign next to it, it does not contain any folders andcannot be expanded.

Selecting a folder in the All Pictures window displays all of the images in that folder and any
subfolders in the Current Folder window.
Current Folder Window
The Current Folder window displays all of the
images in the currently selected folder in the AllFolders window as well as all images in any
subfolders.
Each folder in the Current Folder window will
have a title bar containing the folder name andfour icons. The icons are Explore this folder, Add
this folder to set, Select all pictures in this folder,and Unselect all pictures in this folder.
Clicking the Explore this folder icon opens Windows Explorer. You can use Explorer
to copy, move or delete images on your hard drive. Any changes you make areimmediately updated in Photo Saver.
Clicking the Add this folder to set icon opens a window listing all of the picture sets
you have created. Click on the set you want to add the images. If you have notcreated a picture set, nothing will happen when you click this icon.
Clicking the Select all pictures in this folder and Unselect all pictures in thisfolder icons will either select or unselect the images. You can drag selected
images to a picture set. Right clicking on selected images opens a menu withthe following options:
Send to E-mail Opens new email Outlook or Outlook Express
Slideshow Runs a slideshow of all selected imagesBurn to CD/DVD Runs the Backup program
Open File Opens the default image viewing programLocate on disk Opens Windows Explorer
Properties Opens the Properties window
You can adjust the size of the thumbnails in the Current Folder window by using the slide bar at the lower right corner of the
window. Move the pointer to the left to make the images smaller or to the right to make them larger.
In the lower left corner of the Current Folder window are buttonslabeled Select All and Unselect All. Clicking the Select All button
will select all of the images in all of the folders in the Current Folder window. Clicking the Unselect All button will unselect them.

Selected Picture Window
When you click on a single image in the Current Folder window, it displays in the Selected
Picture window.
The full path name of the selected image is displayed, along with information about the cameraused to take the image and the date and time the image was created.
The Equipment Make and Camera Model information are two of the meta tags that are part of the image’s file. Not all images will have all meta tags. For example, if you scan an old photograph or take a screen shot of a game you play on your computer, the meta tag information
would read like this:
If you have multiple images selected, the image that appears in the Selected Picture window willdepend on how you selected the images. If you hold the Control key down as you click onimages to select them, the image changes to the last image selected. The image will not change if
you hold the Shift key down as you click on the images, or if you click either the Select All button or the Select all pictures in this folder icon in the Current Folder window.
Right clicking on the image in the Selected Picture window will not open a menu. You must do
that in the Current Folder window.
My PictureSet Window
The My PictureSet window lists all of the picture
sets you have created. Picture sets are used to
organize your images. There is no limit on thenumber of picture sets you can create, the number
of images in a picture set or how many picturesets a specific image can be included in.

For example, you went on vacation in Florida and took pictures at each of the following: a theme
park, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and at the beach. You can have a picture set for the entirevacation and one for each of the activities. Later you take another vacation where you only go to
the beach. You can place those images in both their own picture set and the Florida beach set.
In order to place images in a picture set, you must first create it. Click the Add button in the bottom left corner of the My PictureSet window.Enter a name in the New Set Name window and press Enter or click the
OK button.
One way to add images to a picture set is by clicking the Add this folder to set icon. A window will display all of the picture sets. Click on the set
you want the images in. All of the images in the folder are added to theset.
You can also add images to a picture set by dragging the selected images to the picture set. This
method allows you to select the images you want in one or more folders in the Current Folder window to a set.
Hold the Control key down as you click on images to select them, or hold the Shift key down to
select several images in a row.
Hold the left mouse button down and drag the mouse pointer over to the My PictureSet window.
Position the pointer over the picture set you want to add the images to and release the left mouse button. The images are added to the set.
Click on the name of the picture set to view the images in that set. Double click on the name of
the picture set to change the name of the set.
Right clicking on the name of a picture set opens a menu with options to either to run aslideshow or burn a CD/DVD of all of the images in the picture set.
Creating a Slideshow
You can create a slideshow to run on your computer by clicking the Slideshow button or by right
clicking in the Current Folder or My PictureSet windows and selecting Slideshow. Theslideshow automatically begins and will continue until you exit.

Moving the mouse will display the Slideshow Control Bar. From left to right, the buttons on thecontrol bar are:
Exit Previous Image Pause/Play Next Image
Zoom In/Zoom Out Rotate Counterclockwise/Rotate Clockwise
Decrease Display Time/Increase Display Time
Note: When an image is displayed on the screen, the next image is loaded into memory. If youclick on the Previous Image button, the slideshow will first display the image in memory, and
then go back to the previous image.
Burning a CD
Burning Images to Disk
You can burn images to a CD/DVD by clicking the Burn CD buttonor by right clicking in the Current Folder or My PictureSet windows
and selecting Burn to CD/DVD. You can use this feature to backupyour images or to give copies of them to your friends and family.

A window will open listing all of the top level folders and drives in the All Pictures window and
all picture sets. Click on the drive, folder or picture set you want to burn to disk.
In the BackUp window you can select which drive to use (if you have more than one writable
drive). You can give the disks a volume name (up to 11 characters, no spaces) or use the default
name Pictures.
In the Media Information section, the type of media in the drive is displayed as well as the
amount of free space on the disk. Note: if you use a CD or DVD that has data already in it, the previously recorded data may not be accessible after you burn images to it.
The Data Information section displays how much disk space the selected images require and give
you a general idea of how many CD’s or DVD’s are required:
One 700 MB CD or 1 DVDTwo 700 MB CD’s or 1 DVD
Three 700 MB CD’s or 1 DVDMore than 3 700 MB CD’s; better 1 DVDMore than 1 DVD
Click the Burn button to copy the images to the disk. Press the Abort Burn button to stop
copying images.

You have three options on how to deal with overwriting images with the same name:
Override images with the same dateOverride images with an older date
Override images with a newer date
Emailing images
You must have either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express as your email program in order to
email images from Photo Saver. Select the images you want to send and then either click theEmail button or right click and select Send to E-mail from the pop-up menu.
Microsoft Outlook (or Outlook Express) will open a new email window with the selected imagesalready attached. You enter the email addresses and any message you want to include in theemail. You can delete the text that Photo Saver automatically includes in the email; it is inserted
in case you did not want to add a message of your own.

Changing the Settings
The Settings window has three tabs that allow you to customize how Photo Saver functions. The
first tab, Locate, lets you map additional drives and folders where you have images that you can
see them in Photo Saver.
To map another drive or folder, click the Add Custom button. The Custom Monitoring Targetwindow will open. In the Custom Monitoring Name window, enter the name of the new
drive/folder to be called. In the Target Path window you can enter the path of the drive/folder,such as D:\Summer Pictures, or use the Browse button to open the Browse For Folder window.
Select the folder you want, then click the Ok button.

The E-mail tab lets you customize how Photo Saver interacts with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express to send images via email. You can have Photo Saver automatically resize your images to
make them easier for the recipient to download them. You can limit the number of images you
send at one time and the maximum attachment size. You can also have Photo Saver warn you if
the attachments are over a certain size.
The User Interface tab lets you change the background colors used by Photo Saver. Click on one
of the colors in the From column to open the Color window. You can select one of the basiccolors or select a custom color. To restore the colors to the original colors, click on the Default
colors button.

Label Maker
The Label Maker program included in Photo Saver is included to let you print out basic labels
for the CD/DVD’s that you create. It has basic editing tools similar to Windows Paint and is notsupported by Technical Support.

Screen Saver
The Picture Jar screen saver lets you run a slide show of all images in a single folder on your hard drive. You can also have the image pan around the screen.
To set up the screen saver, open the Control
Panel and select Display (Windows XP) or Personalization (Vista)
Click on the Screen Saver tab. In the ScreenSaver pull down menu, scroll down until you
find Picture Jar Screen Saver.
When you click on it, a preview displays on themonitor screen. Click the Settings button to
open the Saver Settings window.
The Saver Settings window opens with theAdvanced tab selected. Click the Browse button
to select the folder that contains the images youwant to be displayed by the screen saver.
The Standard tab allows you to adjust the settings for how the images appear on the screen and
how fast or slow the screen saver runs. Click OK to accept the settings.

Vista 64-bit Operating Systems Users Note: The Picture Jar Screensaver program file is
installed in the Windows \ SysWOW64 folder. In order to access it from the Screensaver tab, you
must copy it to the Windows \ System32 folder.

Photo Share
The Photo Share option in Picture Jar lets you set up your computer to send images to another computer. Your computer acts as the host, or server. The other computer acts as the receiver, or
client. You can send images to more than one client, but each client must have a copy of Photo
Share installed in order to receive the images.
A free version of the client software is available for downloading at ValuSoft’s website under
Technical Support at www.valusoftsupport.com. There is no limit on the number of people youcan send images to, as long as they download and install the client program.
Setting up the Server (Host)
Start the Picture Jar Photo Share program byselecting Start \ Programs \ Jar Photo \ Photo
Manager.
Click on the Settings button to open the Server Settings window.
Click on the Browse button to select the folder where the images you want to send are located.Only the images in this folder will be sent.
The Security Certificates and Private keys should not be changed unless it is required by your IT
personnel. If this is required please contact your IT personnel on what files and keys theyrequire. Otherwise, just leave these items as is.

You can select a Port number or use the Standard port number 4445. If you change the port
number and want to restore it to the default value, click the Standard button.
You can have users use a user name and password or be anonymous. You have the option of
accepting or rejecting any user that attempts to log into your host server.
Once you have selected your folder and port, click OK to return to the main window. The Server
State shows Idle. Click the Start button to change the state to Working.
If no source folder is selected, an error message will display. There does not need to be an image
in the folder for the Server State to be Working.
Note that the Settings button is disabled. You cannot make any changes unless you press the
Stop button.
Setting up the Client (Recipient)
Start the Picture Jar Photo Share program by
selecting Start \ Programs \ Jar Photo \ PhotoManager. Click on the Settings button to open
the Server Settings window.

Click on the Browse button to select the folder where the images you want to receive to be saved
to.
You can enter a user name and password if those are required by the server (host). You can also
enter the correct port number if it was changed by the host.
You can set how often the client will query (poll) the server to see if there are any new images,
from 0 to 60 minutes. If you set the poll interval to 0, you will have to manually check for updates by clicking the Update Now button on the main screen.
You can also set what to do if there is no server activity. In the example above, the client will
stop polling the server if the server has not been active for 3 days and the server will be removed
from the server list if it hasn’t been active for 90 days.

If you are on a network or use a router to connect to the Internet, the IP Address of your
computer will be different from what the Internet sees.
Depending on how your system is configured and what you are using, you may have to use port
forwarding or adjust the WAN settings of your router. Consult your router user manual or
contact your router manufacturer’s technical support for assistance in configuring your specificrouter.
Learn Digital Imaging
The screen is divided into three areas: Navigation Bar, Viewing Area and Controls. The buttonsin the Navigation Bar show the different lessons in the course. Clicking on a lesson button
displays the movies in that lesson.
When you select a movie, the movie plays in the Viewing Area. Helpful text screens also appear
here.
Below the Viewing Area are the Controls. You can play and pause the movie by pressing thePlay and Pause buttons. You can move ahead or back to any location in the movie by clicking in
the progress bar. The Rewind button starts the movie over from the beginning.

The Autoplay option is selected by default, to automatically play the next lesson. Click the
checkbox to turn this feature off and manually select the next lesson.
Click on Text to display the instructor's text for the movie. Click on Print to print that text. Click
the Help button to play lesson 1-2, which explains how to use this course. Click Index to see the
subjects covered in this course, and where they're found. To leave the course, click Exit.
The Previous Topic button takes you to the previous movie, and the Next Topic button takes you
to the next movie. You can work your way through the movies in order, or once you know theessentials, you can go right to the movies that interest you the most.
