Only operate these devices if road trafficconditions permit. If you are unsure aboutthe surrounding conditions, pull over to asafe location and make entries only whilethe vehicle is stationary.

Observe the legal requirements for the coun-try in which you are currently driving.Bear in mind that, at a speed of only 50 km/h,your vehicle covers a distance of nearly 14 mper second.

i The functionality of a roof aerial (radio,DAB) may be impaired if roof carriers areused.Attaching metallised retrofit film to thewindscreen may affect radio and GPS recep-tion and have a negative impact on all otheraerials in the vehicle interior.

Modifications to electronic components,their software as well as wiring couldaffect their function and/or the operationof other networked components. This couldin particular also be the case for systemsrelevant to safety. They might not function

Selecting a menu item

X Touch the touchscreen with your finger.X Swipe your finger to the left, to the right,

You can scroll through long lists or menus inthis way.

Confirming the selection

X Tap the touchscreen with your finger.A menu, option or application will start.

Moving the road map (map view)

X Press on the centre of the touchscreen withone finger.

Increasing the scale of the map (all mapviews)

X Place two fingers slightly apart in themiddle of the touchscreen.

X Move your fingers away from each other.The map scale is then magnified.

Reducing the scale of the map

X Place two fingers, at a greater distanceapart, on the screen.

X Pull your fingers towards each other.The map scale is then reduced.

Gesture control for media playbackYou can use gesture control to play audio andvideo media, to display image data and forradio mode.

Example of gesture control when playingmedia:

X Swipe your finger to the right.Playback starts again from the beginningor the previous track is played.

X Swipe your finger to the left.The next track is played.

SD card

Introduction

G WARNING

SD memory cards are small parts. They canbe swallowed and cause asphyxiation. Thisposes an increased risk of injury or evenfatal injury.

Keep SD memory cards out of the reach ofchildren. If an SD memory card is swal-lowed, seek immediate medical attention.

An SD card, to which the map data from thenavigation system can be saved, is includedin the scope of delivery. Regular updates willbe offered for the map data. This is done byinstalling the corresponding update soft-ware on your computer. Then carry out the rel-evant steps to update the card. For furtherinformation enquire at any smart centre.You may replace the SD card containing mapdata from the navigation system with an SDcard that has a maximum storage capacity of64 GB.

i Only use the SD card in conjunction withthe smart media system or for updating mapand system data on the computer. Other-wise, the data saved to the SD card may bedestroyed.

Inserting an SD card

X Insert the SD card into the appropriate slotin the centre console and press until itengages.

X Switch on the device.The SD card will be recognised by the smartmedia system and will be ready for opera-tion.

Removing an SD card

X In the main menu, select System QRemove SD-card (Y page 62).A display message for removing the cardappears.

orX On the home screen, select q Q Remove SD-card (Y page 14).

X Confirm the message to remove the cardwith Yes.

X Press on the SD card in the slot.The SD card disengages and emerges fromthe slot.

X Remove the SD card from the slot.

In the vehicle menu, you can call up eco scoreand make changes to the vehicle settings.

Calling up eco score

The eco score function provides feedback onhow economical your driving style is. The ecoscore function assists you in achieving themost economical driving style for the selec-ted settings and prevailing conditions. Con-sumption can be significantly influenced byyour driving style. Further informationregarding eco score can be found in the vehi-cle Owner's Manual.X In the main menu, select Vehicle Q eco score.

Evaluating the current trip

X To switch the eco score on or off after the trip: select q Q Hide eco score after trip or Show eco score after trip.

Saving the current trip

X In the Current trip screen, select QSave.A list of categories will be shown, such asHome-Work or Vacation.

X Select the desired category.The values for the current trip will beadded to the category selected and the cur-rent trip reset. In the instrument cluster,the trip computer values will be returned to“From reset”.

Comparing the current trip

You can compare the values for the currenttrip with those saved for a trip in one of thecategories.

Preferred trips

Entering a destination by address

When you select Saved locations as a des-tination, you can choose a destination fromone you have used before. Summary of planned route

Once you have selected a destination, theroute to the destination will be calculated. Inthe display, a summary of the route will bedisplayed. By default, the quickest route willbe calculated for route planning. Furtherinformation on route planning settings(Y page 32).Traffic information is included. This takeslive traffic information into account whenplanning the route. The LIVE functionrequires a TomTom Services subscription(Y page 30).

X To start route guidance: select Choose a category.

Planning a route in advance

All you need to plan a route is your startingpoint, at least one way point and a destina-tion.

Cancelling the route

The navigation system ends the current routeguidance. You can continue the route guid-ance by selecting the destination fromRecent destinations.

You can map the route yourself by entering upto four way points.X Select Travel via.

If you have already entered a way point, alist of the saved way points will be dis-played.

Avoiding road blocks

You can plan a route in such a way that certainparts are not used. This function can be used,for example, if you wish to avoid a specificstreet due to traffic disruptions.X Select Avoid part of route.X A list of the streets used in the current

Minimising delays

Shortly before navigating a motorway junc-tion or exit, the display will show a three-dimensional representation of the lanes andthe exit.

Enlarging the view at junctions

Introduction

The TomTom Services menu can be used to dis-play traffic information, or to call up andmanage other TomTom Live Services. TomTomLive Services require a subscription and aresubject to a charge. Various services comepre-installed and, following activation, canbe used free of charge for a period of threeyears (Y page 51).X In the main menu, select Navigation QTomTom Services.

My Services menu

With the My Services function, you can checkyour TomTom Services subscription status.X In the main menu, select Navigation QTomTom Services Q My Services.The services available on the device andtheir subscription status will be shown.

Traffic information menu

DAB (digital radio)

Information on DAB

i Portable electronic devices in the vehi-cle may seriously impair radio and DABradio reception.

Digital radio or DAB (Digital Audio Broad-casting) is a digital transmission standardoptimally designed for the mobile receptionof radio transmissions. Several programmesare combined into so-called ensembles andtransmitted on a single frequency. Some sta-tions only transmit programmes at certaintimes. If you have selected a station that hasbeen subsequently removed from the ensem-ble, it will no longer be received. You willcontinue to receive the other programmes inthe ensemble. Select either a different pro-gramme or a different ensemble.

i DAB cannot be received everywhere inEurope.

For DAB radio, only the Presets (Y page 37)display mode and the List (Y page 36) displaymode are possible.

DAB radio services

In DAB radio mode, it is only possible toselect various radio services via the contextmenu.

Data structure of the data carrier

Folder structureWhen you create a disc with compressed musicfiles, the tracks can be organised in folders.A folder may also contain subfolders. The discmay contain no more than eight directory lev-els. Files beyond the eighth level will not berecognised by the system.

File namesWhen you create a disc with compressed musicfiles, you can assign names to the tracks andfolders. If MP3 or WMA files are stored in the

root directory itself, the root directory willalso be treated as a folder.You should observe the following whenassigning track names:

Rtrack names must have at least one charac-ter.Rtrack names must have a supported audio

File system and partitioningThe smart Media-System only recognises thefirst partition of the storage medium. Thepartition must be formatted as FAT or FAT32.

Notes on copyright

Audio files that you create or play back aresubject to copyright protection. In manycountries, reproductions, even for privateuse, are not permitted without the prior con-sent of the copyright holder. Make sure thatyou know about the applicable copyright reg-ulations and that you comply with these.

X Select the desired mobile phone.Depending on the mobile phone manufac-turer, a display message will appear. Youwill be prompted to enter a security code onthe mobile phone or to accept confirmationof access.

X Enter the security code on the phone orconfirm access.The Bluetooth® connection is established.If the mobile phone is in range of the smartMedia-System, it will be connected auto-matically.

General instructions for the data con-nection

The smart Media-System uses a mobile phoneconnection for data connection.Please take note of the following informationwhen using data services:

RThe mobile connectivity and built in SIMcard for this vehicle can only be used fordata services offered by certain third par-ties, as well as Daimler AG, via the smartMedia-System for use in the vehicle. Theuse of data services requires the conclu-sion of separate agreements between thevehicle user and the respective provider.Voice service usage is not permitted. Assuch, the SIM card must be permanentlyinstalled as factory equipment.RThe mobile communications connectivity

and the SIM card may only be used respon-sibly in accordance with the applicablelaws and other legal requirements of thecorresponding countries, insofar as this iswithin the power of the vehicle user.RDevelopment, reproduction, decompiling

or disassembly the SIM-card are notallowed. Statutory authority remains unaf-fected.

Failure to follow the above instructions,depending on the severity of non-compli-ance, can in some cases lead to temporary orpermanent deactivation of the mobile con-nection and the SIM card, in particular toprotect Daimler AG and its contractual part-ners from negative legal consequences aris-ing from non-compliance.The availability of mobile connectivity inindividual countries depends on the exis-tence of such mobile service agreements withlocal mobile network providers; availabilitycan therefore change from time to time.The maximum period of validity for themobile connectivity is 15 years from the timeof installation in the vehicle.

Operating mobile communications equip-ment while driving distracts you from pay-ing attention to traffic conditions. Thiscould also cause you to lose control of thevehicle. There is a risk of an accident.

Use this device only when the vehicle isstationary.

You must observe the legal requirements forthe country in which you are currently driv-ing when operating mobile communicationsequipment in the vehicle.If it is permitted by law to operate commu-nications equipment while the vehicle is inmotion, you may only do so if the traffic sit-uation permits. You may otherwise be dis-tracted from the traffic conditions, cause anaccident and injure yourself and others.Do not use the voice control system in anemergency, since the sound of your voice canchange in stressful situations. This delaysyour telephone call unnecessarily.

Using the voice control system

General notes

Voice control can be used to carry out thefollowing smart Media-System functions:

i Speak loudly and clearly when issuingvoice commands. The microphone is withinthe overhead control panel. Observe themessages in the display.In most cases, you can operate the smartMedia-System using the voice control sys-tem and touchscreen.

Voice control is available for the German,English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Por-tuguese, Russian and Turkish languages.

X To start/cancel voice control: pressthe ? button on the multifunction steer-ing wheel.The voice control system prompts you tospeak a voice command.

X Wait until a warning tone sounds.

i If you press the ? button during play-back (Y page 11), you can stop the playback.You will immediately hear a signal tone andcan speak a command.

Help function

You can use the voice control help function atany time. The help function provides tips onhow to use the voice control system.X Press the ? button on the multifunction

steering wheel.Wait until a warning tone sounds.

X Say the voice command "Help".The voice control system displays a list ofhelp functions that you can have displayed.

Alerts

You can set the volume and properties of audioalerts.X In the main menu, select System Q SoundQ Alerts.

Speed-dependent volume

The volume of the playback sources in thevehicle depends on the vehicle speed. You canset the speed-dependent volume.X In the main menu, select System Q SoundQ Speed sensitivity volume.

X Turn the Speed sensitivity volume con-troller to the left or right.The higher the value, the more the volume ofthe audio sources increases with the speedof the vehicle.

Voice output settings

X You can set the activities and informationto be read out by the navigation system.In the main menu, select System Q SoundQ Voice output settings.A list appears in the display.You can select the following settings:
