KEYNOTE BY MS. CARRIE LAM

Mrs Carrie Lam joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong Government in August 1980 and roseto the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A1 in September 2006. She became a Principal Official onJuly 1, 2007 when she was appointed Secretary for Development. She was appointed Chief Secretary forAdministration on July 1, 2012.

Mrs Lam has served the public for more than 36 years in 20 public service positions including Director ofSocial Welfare, Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Planning and Lands), Director-­General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs,Secretary for Development and Chief Secretary for Administration.

Mrs Lam was elected as the Fifth-­Term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regionon March 26, 2017, and was off icially appointed to this posit ion by the Central People’s Government onMarch 31, 2017 to assume office on July 1, 2017.

KEYNOTE : ACHIEVING THE VISION OF A SMART CITYTom Murphy Senior Resident Fellow, ULI/Klingbeil Family Chair for Urban Development ULI – the UrbanLand Institute Washington, DC

Tom Murphy is a senior resident fellow, ULI/Klingbeil Family Chair for urban development. Murphy, formermayor of Pittsburgh, joins other ULI senior resident fellows who specialize in public policy, retail/urbanentertainment, transportation/infrastructure, housing, real estate finance and environmental issues.

His extensive experience in urban revitalization-­what drives investment, what ensures long-­lastingcommitment-­is a key addition to the senior resident fellows' areas of expertise.

Prior to his appointment as senior resident fellow, Murphy had served as ULI's Gulf Coast liaison, helpingto coordinate with the leadership of New Orleans and the public to advance the implementation ofrebuilding recommendations made by ULI's advisory services panel last fall. In addit ion, he worked with theLouisiana state leadership, as well as with leadership in hurricane-­impacted areas in Mississippi, Alabamaand Florida to identify areas appropriate for ULI involvement.

Prior to his service as the ULI Gulf Coast liaison, Murphy served three terms as the mayor of Pittsburgh,from January 1994 through December 2005. During that t ime, he initiated a public-­private partnershipstrategy that leveraged more than $4.5 billion in economic development in Pittsburgh. Murphy led efforts tosecure and oversee $1 billion in funding for the development of two professional sports facilit ies, and a newconvention center that is the largest certified green building in the United States. He developed strategicpartnerships to transform more than 1,000 acres of blighted, abandoned industrial properties into newcommercial, residential, retail and public uses;; and he oversaw the development of more than 25 miles ofnew riverfront trails and urban green space.

Dr. David Hanson is founder and CEO of Hanson Robotics. He has built a worldwide reputation for creatingthe world’s most humanlike, empathetic robots, endowed with remarkable expressiveness, aesthetics andinteractivity. He has produced many renowned, one-­of-­a-­kind robot characters that have received massivemedia and public acclaim.

Dr. Hanson publishes regularly in materials science, artificial intelligence, cognit ive science, and roboticsjournals, including SPIE, IEEE, the International Journal of Cognitive Science, IROS, AAAI and AImagazine. PANEL 1Mr. Paul Berriman is the Group Chief Technology Officer, and responsible for Technology Strategy andDevelopment, a position which he held since May 2007, having joined PCCW in 2002. Mr. Berriman isprimarily responsible for leading the Group's product and technology roadmap and strategic developmentas well as Data Analytics. Prior to his present appointment, he had held posit ions as Head of StrategicMarket Development and SVP, Strategy and Marketing. Mr. Berriman has over 25 years of experience intelecommunications, media and convergence. In 2009 he was recognised by the IPTV World Forum withtheir Special Merit Award for Outstanding Industry Contribution. In 2008 he was listed as one of the GlobalTelecoms Business Magazine's top 100 "most influential persons in telecoms".

Prior to joining PCCW in 2002, Mr. Berriman was the Managing Director of Arthur D. Little in Hong Kong, amanagement consultancy firm, and was involved in telecommunications consultancy projectsglobally. Previously he also held executive, technical, engineering and operations management roles inseveral major Hong Kong service providers including the Hong Kong Telephone Company and Hong KongTelecom CSL.

Mr. Berriman graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electro-­acoustics from the University ofSalford in the UK in July 1979, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of HongKong in November 1985. He became a Chartered Engineer in June 1986 and is a full member of TheInstitution of Engineer ing and Technology. He is Chairman of a Global TD-­LTE Initiat ive (GTI) WorkingGroup, a board member of the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN Ltd.) and anindependent non-­executive director of Spark New Zealand (f.k.a. Telecom Corporation of New Zealand)having joined the Board in December 2011. He is also a non-­executive director of mobile operator, RainLtd., in South Africa. He was also a member of OFTA’s Telecommunications Standards AdvisoryCommittee for many years.

With more than 30years of management experience in the Asia Pacific region and extensive knowledge of the Greater China market,Chan is a seasoned IT professional currently responsible for aligning Cisco's overall business strategy withCountry’s National Agenda. Mr Raymond Cheng has been working in the IT sector of Hong Kong for over 30 years. He specializes inapplying Information Technology to support banking products/services and banking internaloperations. Currently, Mr Cheng is a Group General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for HSBC in theAsia Pacific region. He is an Executive Committee member of HSBC Asia Pacific, assuming overallresponsibility for Information Technology, Back Office Operations, Transformation, Corporate Real Estateand Procurement covering 20 countries in the Asia Pacific region. Mr Cheng is the Chairman of HSBCTechnology and Services (China) Limited, HSBC Electronic Data Processing (Guangdong) Limited andHSBC Global Services (Hong Kong) Limited. He is also a Director of HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Limited, HongKong Notes Printing Limited, Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited, HKICL Services Limited, Hong KongScience & Technology Parks Corporation and Hong Kong Institute for IT Professional Certif ication. Inaddition, he is the Independent Manager on School Board for Shun Tak Fraternal Association Yung YauCollege.

Mr Cheng has strong connections with IT professional bodies and the IT community in Hong Kong. MrCheng has been active in promoting IT in Hong Kong. He has served as an Executive Committee membersin IT professional organisations, led several major international IT conferences, and participated in anadvisory roles for strategic IT agenda (including data centre, eCommerce, FinTech, IT training andcertification, etc). Mr Cheng graduated from the University of Hong Kong and has undertaken researchwork in the Netherlands.

PANEL 1Scott Dunn is Vice President for Southeast Asia at AECOM (NYSE: ACM), a $18.2-­billion global provider ofprofessional technical and management support services. AECOM’s 85,000 employees – including architects,engineers, designers, planners, scientists and management and construction services professionals – servingclients in more than 150 countries around the world. Scott also is part of the Urban Land Institute SingaporeCouncil, past foundingChairman and current co-­Chair.

Scott drives strategic growth for Southeast Asia to advance the regional growth agenda of AECOM’s APACExecutive Leadership Team through identification, development and support of strategic initiatives that driveprofitable growth for AECOM in Southeast Asia. Core business areas include Design Consulting services inBuildings & Places, Civil & Infrastructure, Oil Gas Chemical Industrial & Power and Environmental, Constructingand Management Services.

Scott also leads cross-­functional teams in providing integrated services and sustainable solutions for large,complex and multidisciplinary projects across Asia, among them high-­density masterplans for new towns andregeneration of existing urban landscapes that have drawnon sustainable and smart themes.

He is an advocate of sustainable land development and high dense urban environmental design and believesthat in order to create great places, one should be both sensitive to the environment and responsible for thesociety. His books and papers on urban mobility, sustainability and livability issues are frequently published withlocal and international print media and he is highly regarded as a thought leader in the planning community. Heactively lectures on land development and has given speeches at conferences and events throughout Asia andNorth America.

A global employee for a global company, Paschal continues to develop his extensive experience workingon major projects throughout Europe, Asia, and North Amer ica. During his 20-­year career with Otis, he hassuccessfully applied his expertise in several areas of the business.

Notably, he was Project Director for the multi-­million dollar development at the World Trade CentreTransportation Hub in New York. Paschal considers this to be one of his most challenging and rewardingprojects, and views the landmark as an iconic and prestigious infrastructure of the world. Working on thisparticular project provided him with the opportunity to work with some of the most respected professionalsin the industry.

In addit ion to his role within the global major projects team, Paschal has hosted a number of workshops inChina and Europe related to product development and trade relations within the transport industry. Fromhelping major European cit ies to enhance their Metro systems, to building company and industrycommunications between China and the USA, Paschal has been integral to an exciting variety of projectsin recent years.

Work aside, Paschal enjoys translating his capacity for endurance and competition to the world of sport. Hehas rowed at international level and competed in the Henley Regatta numerous times, as well as beingcrowned the New Jersey State Champion in 2013 for road cycling.

Julian is the Asia Pacific Regional Leader for KPMG’s Global Infrastructure Practice and is a member ofKPMG’s Global Infrastructure Leadership team. Julian also previously developed and led KPMGAustralia’s infrastructure practice and was a Board member of KPMG Australia for 6 years.

Julian was also a member of the Infrastructure Finance Working Group which reported to the AustralianFederal Government on Infrastructure Finance and Funding Reform in 2012. Many of the Group’srecommendations have since been adopted by government.

In his current role, Julian travels widely throughout Asia Pacific working with governments and the privatesector to develop and advise on infrastructure programs, projects and assets. He is an active publicspeaker on a range of aspects associatedwith infrastructure.

He has extensive experience as a lead adviser on a large range of commercial transactions, particular ly inthe transport and industrial markets sectors. Julian’s advice to Government organisations and corporationsincludes advice in respect of: infrastructure projects and financing (including Public Private Partnerships),privatisation, corporate strategy, corporate/debt restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, divestments, andbusiness valuations.

In addit ion to Julian’s experience in Australia and other markets, he is currently leading the KPMG teamwhich is advising the Hong Kong Government on the development of a mult i-­purpose Sports Park,including a 50,000 seat stadium, in Kai Tak, Hong Kong.

Mr Chiang is the Managing Director of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and holds overall responsibility forthe operations of the Hong Kong business, which includes a vertically integrated electricity utility serving 6million people in Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau Island.

Mr Chiang holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of HongKong, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and aMaster of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr Chiang joined CLP Power as a Graduate Trainee in 1988. He has extensive experience in generation,transmission and distribution systems as well as regulatory strategy. He has held various posts in differentareas including power system asset management, planning, design, operation and maintenance, powerquality, and corporate and regulatory strategy. Mr Chiang was the Chief Operating Officer – CLP PowerHong Kong before taking up his current position in June 2017.

Prior to F itbit, Christopher led Johnson & Johnson’s diagnostic franchise based in Singapore.Christopher has held various commercial leadership roles prior to his role at J&J.

Christopher’s career highlights include, developing the global OEM business for a European consumerhealth company, starting a profitable VC in China, and creating a global TEDx event in Singapore.

Since 2016 Christopher has served as Co-­-­‐Chair for Healthcare Committee at The American Chamber ofCommerce in Singapore.

As CEO of Xinova, Edward visits innovators, companies and governments around the world connectingproblems to solutions. In 2005 Edward founded the predecessor to Xinova and co-­managed it from 2008.Edward is one of the top 15 inventors in history, holding more than 2000 patents worldwide acrosshealthcare, computing, networking, energy, and material sciences. As an entrepreneur, he has founded orco-­founded multiple companies including Terrapower, Kymeta, Vigilance, and Benemilk. He advisesseveral others.

Edward founded Intellectual Ventures in 2000 after leaving Microsoft where he was Chief Architect.At Microsoft he founded projects in semantic web, adaptive UI and artificial intelligence, and co-­foundedWindows NT, Office,Microsoft Research,mobile and consumer products.

Before joining Microsoft, Edward founded (his third startup) Deep Thought Group, working on neuralnetwork chips. In the 1980's he was personally recruited by Steve Jobs to work on projects at Apple andNeXT. Leonie Valentine is Managing Director, Sales & Operations of Google Hong Kong. She has over 20 yearsof experience in marketing and sales, and has served as Director of Customer Experience for Asia Pacificat Google for the past two years.

Prior to joining Google, Leonie was Executive Vice President, Customer Service & Operations at CSLLimited. Earlier, she held the posit ion of Chief of Staff for Telstra International Group, and was a member ofthe Executive Leadership Team charged with managing Telstra Corp’s business growth and assets outsideof Australia and New Zealand.

Leonie holds an Executive Certificate in Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School ofEntrepreneurship of Swinburne University, a Master’s Degree in Communication Management from theUniversity of Technology, Sydney, and a Bachelor of Science from Melbourne University.

Mr Yang has been Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the Hong Kong Special AdministrativeRegion since November 2015.

Mr Yang graduated in 1977 from the California Institute of Technology in the United States with a Bachelorof Science in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. He pursued further studies at StanfordUniversity and obtained a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1978 and a Master ofBusiness Administration degree in 1982. Mr Yang worked as a senior design engineer for Intel Corporationin 1978 and later as a strategic management consultant for Bain & Company.

After returning to Hong Kong in 1983, he joined Shell Electric Mfg. (Holdings) Limited as its ExecutiveDirector and Deputy Group Managing Director until August 1999. He took up various posts in severaltechnology, venture capital and private equity firms from 1999 to 2003. Mr Yang worked as the ChiefExecutive Officer of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited from October 2003 toFebruary 2010. He was Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from March2010 to February 2015. He was appointed as Non-­official Member of the Executive Council and Advisor tothe Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology in March 2015.

As National Technology Officer at Microsoft Hong Kong, Fred Sheu supports policy decision and deliverstechnologically relevant and scalable solutions into Hong Kong market. His main objectives are to align ITvalue propositions to public policies in such areas as healthcare, education, the environment, and localsocial and economic development;; and to promote a digital agenda in top policy areas, includinginnovation, security and privacy, technology neutrality, accessibility, and interoperability.

Prior to Microsoft, Fred worked with Hewlett Packard (HP) Enterprise where he was the General Managerof Software for HPE Hong Kong. Fred is an active veteran in Hong Kong ICT industry, he serves in councilsof Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), itSMF Hong Kong Chapter and the Hong Kong InformationTechnology Federation (HKITF).

Professor Christine Loh, SBS, JP, OBE, Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, is Chief DevelopmentStrategist at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She was Under Secretary for theEnvironment in the HKSAR Government (2012-­17) and a Member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council(1992-­97 and 1998-­2000). Loh has been active in public policy and politics since the 1980s. She foundedand was the CEO of the non-­profit think tank, Civic Exchange (2000-­12), and helped to established severalnon-­profit organizations in Hong Kong related to the environment, equal opportunity, arts and culture, aswell as human rights.

Professor Loh is currently a board member of the Robert HN Ho Family Foundation, board member of CDPWorldwide, and an Advisor to the WYNG Master Award in photography. She is a published author of manyacademic and popular works. Her expertise in environmental policy is well-­known, including advising theWorld Health Organization and International Energy Agency on issues relating to air pollution and publichealth. Loh is a lawyer by training, and a commodities trader by profession. She received her legal trainingin England, and received honorary degrees of Doctor of Law from the University of Hull and Doctor ofScience from the University of Exeter.

Bay is a Co-­Founder of Brinc, a global IoT accelerator, manufacturing studio, and online hardwarecommunity based in Hong Kong with offices in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, London, Barcelona, Tel Aviv andBahrain. Having spent half of his career in or founding startups, he now brings his experience andoperations abilit ies to connect the dots from Asia to Silicon Valley for IoT companies from around the world.He currently holds equity positions in 52 companies in 20 countries, serves on the board of Soundbrenner,Silentmode and Brinc, and is a contributor for Forbes and a KOL for Huawei.

Bay has supported technology startups for the last decade. Over half of this time was spent at Apple as afounding team member of their global SMB channel and as the founder of their f irst EntrepreneurshipEvangelism channel. To support startups at Apple, Bay partnered with the world’s best founders, venturecapitalists, incubators and accelerators to identify and solve their most pressing strategic issues. Hisdivision at Apple has grossed more than $350M USD in sales and is still the best team globally in AppleSMB's division. The other half of his career has been spent inside of or founding startups, two of whichfailed, one of which exited successfully.

As a regular mentor for Chinaccelerator, the Thiel Foundation, and other startup ecosystems in Asia, Bay ispassionate about investing in founders with a global vision. Bay is also a professional speaker and spokegave talks at 55 events across 20 countries in 2017 alone.

Gareth Lai is an entrepreneur, VR/AR expert and a former consultant. His passion for entrepreneurshipstemmed from his upbringing in South Africa where he saw how business and technology changed thelives of ordinary people for the better. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2007 in pursuit of studies at HKU andwork opportunities in Asia.

Gareth is the founder of VARII, a visual content marketing production house with a speciality in virtual &augmented reality. He is also a cofounder at LUMEN, a blockchain advisory and research group. With hisexperience in tech and East & West relations he acts as a strategic partner and advisor for inbound clientswanting to expand their presence in the Asia market.

Prior to start-­up life, Gareth was an intrapreneur at PwC’s Experience Centre & Emerging Tech Lab,helping Fortune 500 companies and governments develop strategies and solutions around the top 8technology trends they would soon face.

He deeply believes that smart cities will empower our communit ies and improve efficiencies in which XRwill help change how we build and manage the cities of the future. For example, with the astronomicalamounts of data smart cities will produce, we can leverage this technology as a new medium to study andengage, through visualization and touch, the new digital worlds we create.

Eric Poon is a senior partner at Abots Ltd., where he leads a team to work on AI Computer Vision and Mobile Applications. Eric is the co-­founder of Nexsoft Technology Ltd. which has been building multiple apps with over 3 million downloads worldwide.

For the work history, Eric had been focusing on the startup industry, as well as taking other IT roles such as Project Manager and System Analyst in various IT companies.

Eric has a bachelor degree of Mechatronic Engineering focused in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from UNSW Australia.

During his school years, Eric had gained knowledge at different areas: e.g. autonomous off-­road vehicles, indoor vehicles and micro-­aerial vehicles, robotics, microprocessors and intelligent machines.

Jen is a Director in the PwC Consulting Practice working directly with their Experience Centre focused ondigital, data, customer and emerging technology.

She helped launch the Experience Centres in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2016 and is working on the buildout of a Greater China Emerging Technology Network.

She is also a leader of Catalyst, which is PwC’s design-­thinking workshops – helping clients solveimportant challenges in an agile way. She have over 15 years experience across marketing, businessdevelopment, innovation and change.

She has a masters degree in Chinese Literature, speaks Mandarin and spent over 10 years living acrossMainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

As leader of our Catalyst Team, which is PwC’s design-­thinking methodology for solving client problems inan agile and creative space, Jen facilaites multiple client sessions a week, ensureing that energy remainsup whilst also directing the client to achieve the right results in the allotted time.

STUDENT PANEL - MIT HONG KONG INNOVATION NODE:HOW WOULD SMART CITY HELP FUTURE CITIZEN OF HONG KONG

Marina is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node where she co-creates capacitybuilding programs and drives community partnerships. She began her career in the telecoms industry as a financialanalyst before joining the Asian equities business at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and was VP of the ClientManagement Group in Hong Kong. She made her foray into education six years ago starting as a grade schoolteacher, and later influenced by models of educational innovation, co-founded Alpha Commons, a learning communitycentered on applying design and technology to real-world challenges which was supported by the HKSAR SocialInnovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE) Fund.

Marina Chan earned her master's degree in education from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in financefrom McGill University. She serves on the board of the Hong Kong Red Cross Hospital Schools and is a CFACharterholder.

HKPC: INDUSTRY 4.0 A SOLID APPROACH TOWARDS SMART FACTORY

Raymond, with domain knowledge on manufacturing technology and system, has more than twenty yearsof relevant work experience in U.S. multinational companies, local enterprises and government-­subventedtechnology development institution. He is currently the Principal Consultant of the Hong Kong ProductivityCouncil, leading a team of professional experts and engineers to provide various technologicaldevelopment and transfer services to various industrial sectors. Since 2013, he has been working closelywith Fraunhofer IPT, Germany on the topic of Industry 4.0 and creating industry awareness through variousindustry-­wide promotional campaigns launched.

To in-­depth promote the concept and operation of industry 4.0, he successfully setup the first IntelligentManufacturing (i-­mfg) Technology Demonstration Centre in Hong Kong in 2013. The Centre adoptsFlexible Manufacturing Technology (FMT) and uses an advanced mould automation system to connect thevarious processing and testing facilities by Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) plus other Industry 4.0enabling technologies to realize “Cyber Physical Production System (CPPS)”, a nutshell technology of“Industry 4.0”. In 2017, he further upgraded the i-­mfg Center to become the first Industry 4.0 demonstrationfactory in Hong Kong, namely “Smart Industry One (SIO)” to illustrate the whole concept of Industry 4.0,factory digitalization and various smart features.
