Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has earned the reputation as a national laboratory of choice for science and technology solutions to the most pressing national and global security challenges. LLNL has 6,500 employees (including term employees and post-doctoral fellows), 2,730 scientists and engineers, and 700 facility users, visiting scientist, teachers, and students. There are six major mission roles at LLNL: Defense & Global Security, Energy, Engineering, High Performance Computing, NIF & Photon Sciences, and Physical & Life Sciences.
LLNL is managed by Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS), LLC, operating with an annual budget of $1.6 billion. The LLNS management team includes Bechtel National, University of California, BWX, URS, and Battelle. LLNL is a government-owned, contractor-operated facility managed through a contract between LLNS and DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
LLNL’s mission is to ensure the safety and security of the nation through applied science and technology in three key areas: Nuclear Security, International and Domestic Security, and Energy and Environmental Security.
It is the policy of LLNL that socioeconomic business concerns will be provided the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in the performance of subcontracts awarded by LLNS consistent with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business policies. LLNS will procure a fair proportion of its goods and services from small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned small businesses, veterans and service-disabled veterans who own and operate small businesses and HUBZone businesses.
