Creeper Controls: Operating at 12 to 15 percent of normal operating speed, Creeper Controls allow pinpoint placement of the aerial tip for rescue operations.
Rope Rescue: The Rope Rescue system consists of a heavy duty change of direction device and clamp-on
sheave assembly with dual sheaves on the aerial tip. This system is used in rappelling or stokes basket rescue operations.
Positional Waterway: Our patented positional waterway is an extremely popular option with many fire departments. This durable, dependable feature lets the operator position the waterway to either Rescue or Water Tower with a simple one-step procedure by switching modes from the turntable operator’s position.
QL-12 Electrical System: This “plug n’ play” system reduces the amount of non-plug connectors and makes it easy to add components and make repairs to the electrical system. Smeal aerials come standard with a V-mux electrical system.
Stainless Steel Plumbing: Our plumbing
manifold features stainless steel construction to provide
strength and corrosion resistance.
FEATURES
SM_Broch_Aerial_040810.indd 4 4/8/10 2:51:11 PM
FP-4 Stabilizing System: Smeal’s unique stabilizing system places the front
stabilizers just behind the cab of the apparatus; this forward placement provides
easy access to the pump panel while reducing stress on the chassis.
Substructure: Our hot dip galvanized body mounts come off the torque box and protrude outward to carry the body from the underside of the compartment structure. Additionally, both the upper and lower brackets have rubber blocks to absorb body shock. We also utilize an isolation barrier between dissimilar metals to prevent corrosion.
Interlocks and Short Jacking: When the aerial is short jacked, there is an interlock that prohibits the structure from going fully to the side that is short jacked. Another interlock occurs as part of the anti-body collision system. This prevents the aerial structure from crushing the body of the apparatus when it is lowered.
Fire Truck Leveling (FTL): The FTL is shown on the Vista display in the cab, which allows the operator to know, at a glance, whether they have full aerial capabilities as they stage the apparatus on scene.
Hot Dip Galvanized Stabilizers: Our hot dip galvanized stabilizers protect the metal in an area that is highly susceptible to road chemicals.
CP-84 Waterway: The CP-84 Waterway is a standard feature that
provides the strongest, most durable waterway on the market. A galvanized
inner coating prevents corrosion of the 84,000 psi pipe while the exterior waterway is chrome plated to provide
a smooth telescopic movement throughout the entire extension and
retraction of the aerial ladder.

In this industry, you’ll never hear of anything being “too safe” or “too effective.” So, when we build our apparatus, quality is
always our top priority. It starts with the best materials—like our steel aerial ladders and substructures—to build the sturdiest
trucks available. Then the apparatus is constructed by our AWS-certified welders, and every single weld is NDT third-party
inspected using mag particle examination.
We also individually paint each piece of our apparatus prior to final assembly to ensure total coverage. This gives our trucks their
exceptional look and is critical in effectively protecting against corrosion.
Smeal aerials are designed to ensure you get the most out of the truck. With a number of safety features and options, your
apparatus will be easy to operate while achieving maximum performance.
Before we send any apparatus out the door, it first goes through a number of rigorous tests to ensure performance is up
to Smeal quality standards. All of our efforts to ensure quality mean you’ll get the safest apparatus on the market.
DEDICATED TO QUALITy
Tested and Proven: Every Smeal aerial goes through a number of rigorous tests before leaving our facility.

There are a lot of fire apparatus manufacturers in this industry and, to be honest, most of them build a pretty
good truck. We don’t worry about other companies, though, because leaders don’t look back. They are focused
on the task at hand. Everyday, they push themselves to be the best. And for it, they are respected. Just like
you, there is a sense of honor in what we do. We work to make the perfect fire apparatus because we believe
the bravest of the brave deserve the best of the best. We are Smeal. We build respect.
