ONE DAY CONFERENCE OF THE FRENCH FRIENDS OF THE WORLD

MARITIME UNIVERSITY

PARIS, MARCH 14, 2012

The Association of the French Friends of the World Maritime University organises a one day conference on March 14, 2012 at the French Ministry in charge of Transports and Environment, at the Grande Arche in Paris - La Défense, Room 2 on the following item:

« Slow steaming : An economical or environmental challenge ? »

The Shipping industry is experiencing a new change due to the following requirements:

v on the one hand, the necessary improvement in the competitiveness of the shipping

companies by reducing running costs and by searching for a better performance of future ships, in a context of increasing bunkers costs,

v on the other hand, the mandatory reduction of exhaust of gases in the atmosphere.

The purpose is to debate on the compatibility, relevance and complementarity of both objectives – profitability improvement and environmental responsibility. Such issues will be discussed by all shipping actors: Maritime Administrations, shipowners, shipyards, equipment makers, shippers, forwarders, ports, brokers, insurers, lawyers, academics.

This one day conference addresses all persons interested in the evolution of the shipping industry: actors, operators, users, authorities, customers of the maritime sector as well as students in transport economics and logistics.
