Slovenia Trips have always offered a unique experience and taste of Slovenia. Rotaract clubs from all over Slovenia join together each year to organize a memorable, fun and extraordinary trip around the country. Eight Rotaractors from around the world will join us this year and get an opportunity to visit our enchanting country.

This year the trip will start in the capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana. The journey will than take you to the Karst region and towards Mediterranean sea. You will take a glimpse of beautiful sunny side of the Alps in Kranj and continue your journey in Lower Carniola region. The last few days of the trip you will visit Styria region with its capital and two historical cities of Roman origin.

Ljubljana (June 24th - June 26th)Welcome to Ljubljana, »the most beautiful city in the world«! Located in the very center of the country and founded under the name of Emona in the Roman era, it recently celebrated its 2000th birthday. Ever since, it has played an important part in Slovenia's political and cultural sphere. Numerous cafés by the river, the colorful city market, and events, such as the Open Kitchen street food festival, contribute to its picturesque image and vibrant city life. Buzzing with students throughout the year and tourists in summer, Ljubljana attracts more and more visitors every year. Whereas it has won the title of the 2016 European Green Capital, some are already comparing it to Berlin for its recent increase in coolness and hipster culture.

Karst region and seaside (June 26th - June 28th)Enjoy the fairytale landscapes of the Vipava valley and the Karst region. Treat your taste buds to some of the best wines in Slovenia and in the world, and the food specialties with a hint of gentleness. Take a look in the underworld of Karst, visit one of the largest underground canyons in the world that go through the Škocjan caves (UNESCO – listed). Back on the surface spectate the abundance of culture heritage. Visit the medieval castles that await for the curious tourists. At the North – West end of the Vipava valley walk over the biggest stone bridge in the world, or rest your eyes over the renowned white Lipizzaner horses in a stud farm Lipica…

Portorož and Koper are two very different cities of the Slovenian coast. Koper offers an old city center with modern surroundings and the only port in Slovenia and Portorož is a worldly resort with hotels all along the shore, restaurants and clubs. The proximity of Italy surely left its mark on this part of Slovenia. The guests will have an opportunity to enjoy the sea as well as to get to know the hinterland of the coast.

A glance at the mountains (June 28th - June 29th)All of you who are deciding whether or not to sign up for Slovenia trip, here is one reason why all of you should do it!

Bled, the small town next to a beautiful lake, is single handedly the most touristic place in Slovenia. Right there by the lake you can sit down, have a cup of coffee and try the famous crème cake. So that is the first one of the foods you should indulge while traveling our beautiful country. But our region isn’t all lakes and mountains, which are breath-taking. Between small towns and cities you can see plenty of fields filled with crops and farm animals. We breed them with love and care, and afterwards, well eat them with love as well. The famous Kranjska klobasa (Carniolan sausage) is made out of pork and it’s accompanied (usually) with Žganci and Sauerkraut (cabbage).

After the lunch you can easily have a swim in one of the lakes or rivers, or go hiking to burn off the calories. But if you are not that into doing activities you can just sit on the shore and watch hot guys or girls row in their boats across the lake.

Lower Carniola region (June 29th - June 30th)Three wonderful cities of Lower Carniola offer a variety of natural and historic gems. Guests will visit the center of Novo mesto with beautiful Krka River, a unique castle on the island of Krka river – Otočec. Lower Carniola is also renowned for tasteful wines and somewhat traditional small houses in the middle of vines, called “zidanica”. Guests will also visit a small town on the island – Kostanjevica, and if the weather will allow it, experience kayaking, rafting or canoeing on Krka or Kolpa River. Lower Carniola is a region where more than 90 percent is covered with forests and is home to many wild animals such as bear, lynx and deer.

The capital of Styria, the city of hop and wonderful ancient cities (June 30th - July 3rd)Maribor is the capital of Styria and the second largest city in Slovenia. Maribor lies at the foothill of Pohorje where the Golden Fox ladie’s alpine ski world cup takes place every year. In the time of the Slovenia trip, famous Festival Lent will take place on the bank of Drava River. Guests will have an opportunity to see the old city center of Maribor and the oldest vine in the world.

Ptuj was built on the grounds of ancient – roman Poetovio and is the oldest city in Slovenia. With its ancient city center and historic castle, the city on the banks of Drava is certainly full of history. Guests will be able to see the core of the city Castle collection, that shows off the lifestyles of the castle's historic residents, musical instruments, display weapons, and traditional Ptuj's Mardi Gras costumes used for the annual Mardi Gras Festival, called »Kurentovanje«. Because Ptuj is also very much known by the exceptional potential of fabulous wine – growing sites in the Haloze and Slovenske Gorice hills, guests will have an opportunity to try consciously chosen wine samples of Ptuj's most recognizable wine Pullus in a wine cellar that contains the oldest wine in Slovenia: Golden vintage from 1917. Ptuj is also known by a few typical dishes, such as chicken Ptuj style, which will allow guests to get to know a part of the Styrian culture.

Celje is another ancient-roman city in Styria. The city center with beautiful buildings and the remains of castle tells stories of an ancient glory of Celeia. Styria, however, is also known for numerous wineyards and some world renowned winemakers who are producing the white varieties such as Riesling, Pinot blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Rizvanec, Sipon and many other typical wines of Styria . Guests will have the possibility to enjoy the amazing wievs of these wineyards and taste the unique white wine varieties from some of the winemakers of Styria.
