    COMPLETE TOOL CALIBRATION SCREEN

The Complete Tool Calibration includes the axis, tool height, thickness and curve

calibration procedures. Each procedure can be performed individually from the

    Calibration/Diagnostics Screen.

NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE: The only time the "Complete Tool" calibration should be

performed is when a major component, such as the bird, motor, slide or

cutter tool has been replaced. Normally, just running the individual

calibrations to correct an individual problem is sufficient. If some

unforeseen circumstance requires stopping the "Complete Tool"

calibration, it must be restarted and run to completion.

Position the calibration gauge in the chuck with the

notch pointing toward the operator. Be sure the gauge

is positioned firm in the chuck with the notch in the

proper position before releasing the chuck switch.

Press [F3] to begin the calibration procedure. Each calibration will be performed in

sequence ending with the curve calibration procedure.

When the calibration is complete, press [F1] to return to the Calibration/Diagnostics

    Screen.

    AXIS CALIBRATION SCREEN

The axis calibration routine is completely automatic and does not require operator

    input or intervention.

Position the calibration gauge in the chuck with thenotch pointing toward the operator. Be sure the gauge

is positioned firm in the chuck with the notch in the

proper position before releasing the chuck switch.

Press [F3] to perform the axis calibration procedure. The probe will make contact

with the calibration gauge at various locations and automatically adjust the axis if

    an error is detected.

When the calibration is complete, press [F1] to return to the Calibration/Diagnostics

    Screen.

    TOOL HEIGHT CALIBRATION SCREEN

The Tool Height Calibration is completed by carefully performing the following step

    by step instructions:

    1. Position the calibration gauge in the chuck with

the notch pointing toward the operator. Be sure

the gauge is positioned firm in the chuck, with

the notch in the proper position, before releasing

    the chuck switch.

    2. Press [F3]. The probe will make contact with the calibration gauge at various

    points gathering vital information.

    3. When the probing is complete, remove the calibration gauge and chuck a thick

    flat CR-39 blank.

    4. Press [F3] to check the tool height. The SL2will score two lines on the test lens

(see illustration below). Remove the test lens from the chuck. Wipe the lens

clean and examine the lines with a magnifier to determine if the two lines are

perfectly aligned and appear as one line.

    5. Press [F1] to return to the Calibration/Diagnostics Screen or adjust the toolheight, as follows:

    6. Loosen the four cap screws on top the tool holder (see illustration below). Leave

the four cap screws slightly snug. Move the tool holder slightly in the proper

direction to either raise or lower the cutter insert. Tighten the four cap screws.

    7. After completing the height adjustment, chuck the test lens again and press

[F2] to score the lens again. Adjust the tool height again if the two lines are

not prefectly aligned. Continue the procedure until the tool height is correct.

    8. After completing the tool height adjustment, tighten the four cap screws to a

    torque of 160 inch pounds.

    9. Press [F1] to return to the Calibration/Diagnostics Screen.

The Thickness Calibration is completed by carefully performing the following step by

    step instructions:

    1. Position the calibration gauge in the chuck with

the notch pointing toward the operator. Be sure

the gauge is positioned firm in the chuck, with

    2. Press [F3]. The probe will make contact with the calibration gauge at various

    points gathering vital information.

    3. When the probing is complete, remove the calibration gauge and chuck a test

lens (preferably a thick flat CR-39 blank). The same test lens used in the tool

    height calibration is normally sufficient.

    4. Press [F3] to perform the thickness calibration. The SL2

will cut the test lensand gauge the amount of stock removed after each cut. The thickness is

    automatically adjusted without operator input.

    5. When complete, remove the calibration gauge and press [F1] to return to the

    5. Enter the material type and actual front curve of the test lens. Press [F4] for

a listing of more materials if the material being used is not listed on the

instruction line. Also, enter the block base curve and block nominal diameter.

NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE: Changing the tool index of the material in the material data base does

    not necessitate curve re-calibration.

    6. Press [F3] to cut a 10 diopter sphere curve in the test lens.

The following CAUTION message will be displayed when [F3] is pressed to

begin the cycle if the Lap/Lens sensor has been turned "OFF" in the Setup

Screen. When turned on, the SL2will automatically detect whether a lens or a

lap is in the chuck. This is to prevent the operator from cutting a lap while

    performing the Curve Calibration procedure.

    7. Press [F3] to begin the cycle or press the [C] key on the keypad to cancel.

The Lap/Lens Sensor has been disabled.

Press F3 if a LENS is chucked,

or press the delete key to cancel.

gauge that has the same bar width and ball diameter as that shown in the

    display prompt.

    10. Enter the sag gauge reading in millimeters to the third decimal place.

    11. If the sag value entered is not within tolerance, Curve Calibration Screen 6

will appear. If the sag value is within tolerance, Curve Calibration Screen 7

    will appear.

NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE:NOTE: If your sag gauge bar width and/or ball

diameter is different from that shown in the display

prompt, change the "Lens gauge bar width" and "Lens

    4. Select the type of plastic lap tool that will be cut in the Lap Tool Calibration

procedure. The type of lap tools displayed in the popup window will vary

depending upon which lap type is selected in the Setup Screen. The screen

shown above is with both lap types selected. The popup window will appear

even if only one lap type is selected in the Setup Screen. The operator has the

option of using either a 7-2, 9-2 or 11-2 lap tool for the lap tool calibration

procedure when using the Q391 type lap tool.

If both lap types (XRL and Q391) are to be processed, the SL2must be

calibrated to both types of lap tools. Therefore, the lap calibration procedure

must be performed twice, once with the XRL lap tool and once with either the

    Q391 7-2, or 9-2, or 11-2 lap tool.

The NONE option in the popup window is only there to ensure that the

operator moves the highlight from the NONE option to the desired lap tool.
