Interpretation Guide to assist with the rollout and integration of the fifth generation (5G) telecommunications network

The rollout of the 5G network requires changes to the design of mobile networks, as well as workers to reskill to meet future workforce demand. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant increase in the demand on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry. To address this critical skills need, the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) Emergency Response Sub-Committee approved the creation and revision of two skill sets, namely:

● ICTSS00115 XG Cellular Network Infrastructure Rollout Skill Set● ICTSS00116 XG Cellular Network Implementation Skill Set.

As the skills needed to rollout the 5G network will be transferable to the rollout of future generations of cellular wireless networks (e.g. 6G, 7G, XG), these skill sets have been designed to have long-term application. This Interpretation Guide provides guidance for delivery of the units of competency in these skill sets. The guidance focuses on specific skill and knowledge requirements to support the rollout of the 5G network.

The Interpretation Guide gives trainers and assessors delivering the above skill sets insight from industry stakeholders, peak bodies and other registered training organisations (RTOs), which will assist in creating meaningful and effective support material. The Guide consists of notes and interpretations relating to certain parts of each unit listed in the skill sets.

PwC’s Skills for Australia acknowledges that this project was funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
