Numerous discussions with manufac-turers, which preceded the selection ofthe gearboxes shown here, confirmedthat there is a trend towards specialistgearboxes in order to better satisfy,both technically and economically, thedemands of individual applications.However, as often as possible thedesigns use components from stand-ard series – an advantage not leastfrom a logistics point of view.
In the following examples the bear-ings used are listed starting with thosefor the input shaft and following theorder in which they occur in the powertrain. The examples show that bear-ings of standard series are preferredand only a few special bearings areused. The examples also confirm anearlier observation in the section deal-ing with bearing arrangements for gearshafts, namely that virtually all “cata-logue” bearing types are used in gear-boxes. SKF, with its comprehensive
range of technically advanced standardbearings, assists the designer in pro-ducing technically and economicallycompetitive gearboxes.
