As SiTF celebrated the important milestone of its 30th anniversary in 2012, the council discussed at length future areas of engagement to stay relevant. It concluded by updating the vision statement to read: To be the voice of ICT industry and the catalyst of ICT adoption.

This reflects the continuous effort to stay true to our role as the advocate for the industry and

to actively encourage ICT users to accelerate the adoption of ICT technologies.

In the course of the year, we spearheaded dialogue sessions with relevant ministers and government agencies about issues facing the industry such as manpower and government procurement.

In June 2013, I was invited to join the steering committee of the Infocomm Media Masterplan 2025, which will identify key development areas for the infocomm and media sectors as it seeks to transform the way we work and live.

In addition, we initiated a think tank comprising almost 30 CxOs from various sectors from banking to education, who discussed significant trends for both Singapore and the ICT industry with the help of experienced facilitators from Accenture and frog Design.

A major challenge this year was manpower issues. Our measures to help our members can be summed

up with the words “People, Partnership, Productivity”.

We set up the Productivity and Productisation Programme Office (PPPO) in the second half of 2012 in collaboration with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. It has since brought in renowned consultants such as Rally Software Development and frog Design to assist companies to productise and enhance productivity. Its numerous programmes and classes have attracted more than 300 participants from over 150 companies.

Following the success of MatchIT (our service to help enterprises find the most appropriate IT vendors for their infocomm needs), SiTF launched PartnerIT to provide a platform for overseas or local vendors to seek local partners. The initiative grew out of frequent requests from members and non members alike. These programmes will provide alternative channels for members to seek business opportunities

Our Infocomm Singapore Centre in Shanghai has, in the span of eight years, morphed from brand promotion to full service support for local companies penetrating the China market. In 2013, it extended its network with a Cooperative Alliance Agreement with the Beijing Software Industry Association and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Shanghai Software Industry Association. The agreements will foster mutual ties and promote business opportunities.

We continued to place emphasis on fostering innovation. Today, 123JumpStart, our start-up programme that was kickstarted in early 2012, is an incubator for the i.JAM Reload and ACE Startup schemes and has 18 high profile investor-mentors on board. It provides guidance and a wide range of resources to assist start-ups in their entrepreneurship journey. Besides Sunny Side Saturday,

a casual get together for topic experts to share their experience, it organised a cross border pitching session with our Malaysian counterparts for Malaysian and Singapore start-ups to pitch to investors from both countries.

These are just a few of the highlights from a busy and fruitful year. The success of our many initiatives would not have been possible if not for the efforts of our Councillors, Chapter Exco and the organising committees of the events. In all these efforts, we received excellent support from the SiTF Secretariat. My heartfelt thanks to all!

Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen and build on our programmes, implementing new ones and retiring the irrelevant. So, please stay engaged!

SiTF marked a significant

milestone in its history with the celebration of its 30th anniversary in August 2012. To commemorate the occasion, a Gala Dinner was held at Marina Bay Sands, together with the presentation of the Annual SiTF Awards. This was just one of over 70 events that filled our 2012-2013 calendar, making this another busy but satisfying year for us.

As I look back on the past 12 months, one of the major highlights that comes to mind is the opening of SiTF’s Productivity and Productisation Programme office (PPPO), an initiative which we embarked on in collaboration with Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

To help us run PPPO and grow the SiTF Academy, we have a team led by Ms Doris Chow our Strategic Programme Office Director. Ms Chow brings with her many years of experience working with trade associations and a strong network of business professionals. Under her leadership, we believe that both PPPO and SiTF Academy will provide the necessary support to our members in the critical areas of productivity enhancement and manpower development.

SiTF has not been spared the manpower crunch: we lost two of our long-serving staff to the industry and experienced higher salary expectations as we competed for talent. The escalation of the foreign workers’ levy was another drag on our finances.

In response, we have tightened our expenditure further by ensuring stringent cost control. We have also implemented a time tracking application to help us enhance our ability to be more productive through better time management and allocation of resources. It is gratifying that our efforts have enabled us to yield results despite a leaner organisation.

To do more with less, we have re-organised the human resource of the Federation and re-designed some of the job functions to help staff gain better exposure and more capability development. We have also allocated more dedicated resources to membership care and recruitment to better serve our members.

We are grateful for the guidance of our council, executive committees and members as well

as the cooperation rendered by government agencies such as IDA, Media Development Authority (MDA), Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and International Enterprise Singapore (IES) and partners including trade associations, chambers,

etc. The contributions of all our stakeholders have been invaluable in

helping us to serve the industry better.

Thank you again and we look forward to your continuous

support.

sitF 123Jumpstart (123Js) provides a one-stop shop to help startups access a broad range of resources such as mentorship, training, funding, test beds, and go-to-market support. The 123JS team has attracted investor-mentors – entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capitalist and experts in the IT industry – to collaborate in launching new ventures.

Funding & Mentoring StartupsAs an incubator for the i.JAM Reload (up to S$250,000) and ACE Startup (up to S$50,000) schemes, 123JS nurtured six startups during the year in review. Besides funding, 123JS also provided a panel of experienced entrepreneurs, investors and experts to help the startups develop their ideas and turn them into viable products and services.

SiTF-pIKOM Cross Border pitching SessionSiTF 123JS worked with its Malaysian counterpart PIKOM (The National ICT Association of Malaysia) to organise its first cross-border pitching session on 26 January 2013. Some 25 angels, including brand names in the region such as Jungle Ventures, Fatfish Medialab, TNF Ventures, Crystal Horse, IDM Venture Capital, August Capital Partners, Stream Global, and Basis Bay Group, met up with 17 startups during the session.

Each startup was given 6 minutes to pitch their ideas to the angels, who then flooded them with questions. The exchange was fast and intense, with the startups aiming for a follow-up session with the investors. After the pitches, the startups had the chance to network with the angels over lunch. It was a highly fruitful event with connections created between the startups and the investors.

Angel’s den WorkshopIn February 2013, 10 startups, including two from Malaysia, participated in a highly-focused workshop specifically designed to support early stage ventures seeking angel funding. Besides tapping on the expertise of Mr Raiyo Nariman, of Angel’s Den, the participants also gained first-hand knowledge from active angels Ms Virginia Cha, Mr Leslie Loh, Mr Pierre Hennes and Mr Blayne Peacock who were invited to speak at the event.

During the workshop, the startups did a round of pitching to find out where they stood. Mr Raiyo then spent time with each of them to improve their presentations.

The workshop was followed by a period of mentorship and guidance to prepare the startups for the opportunity to pitch to Angel’s Den’s Hong Kong angels.

Startup packageTo provide further support to local startup community, 123JS put together a bundle of products and services from partners such as Amazon Web Services, Dell, EGUARDIAN, Microsoft, Shopify and StarHub. It is being offered at a special bundled startup price. More items will be added in due course.

to better help the industry face the challenges in pitching for public sector projects, SiTF has set up a Government Procurement Committee. During the year, it has met with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to discuss changes to some of the standard terms and conditions in Government tenders. To help ILEs better understand the Goverment’s procurement process, SiTF and IDA will be planning a Tender Workshop in last quarter of 2013.

as part of the effort to promote productivity and innovation, PartnerIT was launched on 1 November 2012 at the Meet-The-Member session. A platform for IT vendors to collaborate and establish new partnerships with other ven-dors, it will be of special benefit to both local companies and overseas entities seeking any form of partnership, such as technology, reseller/ distribution or strategic partner-ships, that can add value to their business.

Since its commencement, several companies, including KDL Japan, Chatworks Inc, Enhanzcom Pte Ltd, Dassault Systemes Pte Ltd and Digistore Solutions, have leveraged this platform.

It was another lively year for MatchIT, an initiative by SiTF to help industries harness ICT to enhance their business performance and at the same time provide the ICT industry with opportunities to work with these industries on their ICT requirements. During the year, MatchIT handled more than 60 project requests, more than half of which came from public bodies and the service sector.

SiTF THINK TANKsitF has set up a think tank to tap into the knowledge of thought leaders and CxOs and gain critical insights into business trends and the future of the ICT industry in Singapore.

The Think Tank initiative kicked off on 30 May 2013 with a Future Forecasting Workshop which brought together close to 30 CxOs from industry and user companies. The event was facilitated by Accenture, which provided the business strategy perspective, and frog Design, which provided the design thinking viewpoint.

The contrasting approaches of the facilitators brought a unique flavour to the session. Numerous opportunities and ideas were identified for further research and exploration.

One of the the Centre’s outstanding achievements was the signing of the Cooperative Alliance Agreement with BSIA (Beijing  Software Industry Association), which took place on 8 April 2012. The signing was witnessed by Mr Chng Ken Wei, the Centre Director of IDA China; Mr. Eddie Chau, Chairman of SiTF; and Mr Wang Wei Hang, Chairman of BSIA. Under the Agreement, BSIA will provide Singapore infocomm enterprises with information sharing and business matching services. Both parties will also foster ties and promote business opportunities through regular delegation visits. In all, ISC has assisted more than 40 Singapore infocomm companies, resulting in about S$25 million worth of exports in goods and services to China between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2013, with another S$150 million worth of exports in the pipeline.

One company which received support from ISC was Converged Solutions Pte Ltd. During a business matchmaking session organised by ISC in Shanghai last October, Converged Solutions met with Gushen (Shanghai) and the two companies agreed to co-operate. After a few months of technical testing, Converged Solutions deployed its cloud call centre solutions on the Gushen

technical platform while Gushen promoted Converged Solution’s offerings through its cloud customer service programme.  The Singapore company received another boost when Gushen’s service programme was selected by the Shanghai municipal government for its 2013 cloud computing applications programme.

Another company that received support from ISC was Waypointe Management Consulting Pte Ltd. With ISC’s support during the pre-sales process, Waypointe was able to secure a project to develop Cummins Emissions’ China supply chain strategy.

since 2004, sitF has been organising a volunteers’ Day to encourage ICT companies and professionals to engage in efforts to support the less fortunate. The initiative has since grown to become a year-long industry-wide effort to help raise funds and to participate in befriending activities.

In 2012, SiTF sought to raise funds to improve the facilities of the Lions Befrienders Senior Activity Centres (SAC) and to support their operations. In total, SiTF members, partners and friends raised more than $20,000 and donated 10 Nintendo Wii sets for therapeutic use at the SACs.

Besides the fund-raising, volunteers also visited three SACs on 14 July 2012. More than 100 participants from Brandtology, Dell, Elixir Technology, Hewlett Packard, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, OPUS IT Services and StarHub prepared a simple programme of performances, games, and food for the clients of the Mei Ling, Ang Mo Kio and Bendemeer SACs.
