As with other projects of this kind, our Technical Specialists discussed the available options with the college’s building management team and consultants, to establish the best solution to give the college value for money and longevity in product life.

In any form of partial modernisation there is always the need to ensure that any existing

equipment safely and fully integrates with the new equipment that is being installed. The lift modernisation for the Imperial College required exactly that, to ensure that everything worked seamlessly and safely. To achieve this, the experienced Temple Lifts engineering team who worked on this project thoroughly checked all equipment and technology matching prior to procurement.

The project for the two, seven-storey lifts and the eight-storey firefighting lift all went to plan with on time delivery, and are now fully

commissioned and operational, reinstating the lifts to a standard of quality that represents the building’s important status.

As part of our ongoing relationship with the Imperial College, Temple Lifts were asked to assist the college by improving the performance and reliability of three lifts installed in the Sir Alexander Fleming building, South Kensington Campus.

Designed by architects Foster and Partners, the building was opened in 1998. The lifts, now 18 years old, needed a degree of updating; in this instance the modernisation oriented around the control and drive systems of the existing three Schindler traditional traction motor room lifts.
