TIMES SQUARE Located on the east bank of JingJi Lake and on the east-west axis of Suzhou City, the new Suzhou Industrial Park Times Square is the heart of fashion and entertainment district. There are 24 buildings and a giant sky canopy within the total 6 city blocks including Office Towers, Retail Shops, Restaurants, Entertainment and Shopping Mall. SWA is providing the landscape design for all six-block areas with a total 18.2 hectares. The program includes canal waterfronts, green corridor, shopping promenade, streetscapes, outdoor spaces, outdoor dining, music plaza, family grove, playing area, water features, pedestrian bridges, bus shelter and many more. Idea: Time’s Pulse – The landscape design utilizes the metaphor of the ‘Circuit Board’, a key element of advance technology to express the high-energy and trendy impressions. The energy band lines act as energy veins of the project. They guide the pedestrian’s circulation and connect different spaces. The energy bands are the ‘Time’s Pulse’ and will bring flow of visitors and energy to the spaces. The design includes three corridors: Canal corridor, Pedestrian corridor and the Green corridor. These three corridors allow connecting to the five connections to guide pedestrians to their destinations from streetscapes to waterfront. The design for five connections provides paving, lighting and planting to allow pedestrians to find their nine places: music/rhythm plaza (listening), fragrance bar (smelling), reflection plane (looking), flavor station (tasting), haptic/texture surface (touching), family grove (playing), digital tunnel (surprising), time window plaza (meeting) and fog plaza (gathering). The design includes paving, decking, planting, lighting, custom structures and water features. These nine places can create opportunities for people’s interaction.
