Dear Delegate,

Tackling the Challenges in Avionics: Single Sky Many Platforms

Your Invitation to the leading event for global commercial and defence avionics

Avionics Europe is the annual event that provides you the opportunity to update your knowledge and skills and understand the evolution in the industry, to be better prepared for the future.

In one of the most innovative industries, commercial and defence avionics is always evolving, looking to stay ahead of the game and meeting new standards. Keeping up with the changes in technologies and future industry strategies is also a challenge.

This mutli-faceted event offers something for everyone involved in avionics, with conference sessions, technology workshops and forums delivered by some of the industry’s leading bodies, Avionics Europe brings the industry together to discuss the important issues of the day.

As the Avionics industry’s Premier Exhibition, Avionics Europe will showcase leading and state-of-the-art technologies and products displayed by around 80 exhibitors from Europe and around the globe and will see leading associations and media from across the sector. A great opportunity to discover what’s new and up-and-coming in the world of commercial and defence avionics.

The conference programme, designed to deliver high quality content for avionics engineers, technicians, project managers, R&D consultants, systems integrators and pilots, contributions from key industry players, including Airbus, Boeing, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Thales Avionics and many more and leading international speakers, will give you the latest perspectives from across Europe and beyond.

Avionics Europe enjoys the full support of leading industry organisations, including BavAIRia, the Association of European Airlines, SESAR Joint Undertaking, EuroControl, EUROCAE, German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR), Technical University of Munich and Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS).

The Association of European Airlines, SESAR JU and EuroControl will also be hosting and providing forums to update the industry on progress on SESAR, policies and standards, with EUROCAE and the DGLR and RAeS also hosting forums for the avionics industry professional. Details can be found on page 8 in this guide.

If avionics touches your business or work, you cannot afford to miss Avionics Europe. The event will enable you to make important connections that are key to success in the European and global commercial and defence avionics industries.

In this Pre-Show Guide you will find the conference programme, correct at the time of printing, and all the relevant information you need to fully prepare and plan your visit to the show. To participate, simply complete and return the enclosed Registration Form, or register on-line at www.avionics-event.com.

You can also benefit from our Early Bird discounts if you register your place before 20th January 2013.

We look forward to welcoming you to Munich.

10:30am – 12:30pm - BavaiRiaWanted: aerospace engineers – Dead or alive!

Are you a qualified aerospace technician or engineer looking for a job in the aerospace industry in Europe? You’re in luck: Your skills are in demand due to the existing shortage of skilled workers in the aerospace industry which goes beyond the national borders of Europe. The fear of global unemployment does not apply to the aerospace industry. The question of how to face this challenge is a European one. What measures must be taken to counter this trend? Would a joint European initiative be helpful? How can we inspire young people to embark their career in the aerospace sector? What other measures should be undertaken besides changing the educational system to eliminate the talent shortages? What are the necessary provisions needed to re-distribute the existing pool of skilled people across Europe?Representatives of governments, industry, universities, and training centers are discussing how to address this challenge and which joint measures have to be implemented across Europe to maintain Europe’s expertise and competitiveness especially in the aerospace sector.Come join us to discover more!

Software Certification Considerations under aRinC 661ARINC 661 was introduced almost 12 years ago with the fundamental objective of mitigating the cost of increasingly sophisticated cockpit display systems. With the cost of flight safety certification for software coming in at anywhere from $50 - $300 per line of code, the overhead of ARINC 661 might have seemed counterintuitive. In reality though ARINC 661 provides strategic benefits and reduces risk for certification inherently through its architecture and the promotion of best practices such as software modeling and qualifiable tools supported by DO-178C/ED-12C.

Design of avionics interfaces for maximum Longevity and Long term SupportThe Avionics industry is looking towards COTs technology for reduction in development cost and speed to market. This involves the risk of component obsolescence. By basing the design of interfaces around FPGA technology significant benefits are offered in maximizing longevity.

The M.O.C. Order and Event Center in the north of Munich is easy to reach for exhibitors and visitors. It is only a 20-minute drive by car from the airport as it is directly linked with the A9 motorway (Nuremberg-Salzburg). You will find plenty of parking space there. You can also get there comfortably by public transport: It will take you about 12 minutes by underground from the city centre; from the underground station it is only a 5-minute walk to the M.O.C..

It is also easy to reach by public transport.

uRBan RaiLWay (S-BaHn)Just beneath the central area of Munich Airport there is the urban railway (S-Bahn) station of lines S1 and S8. Every 10 minutes there is a S-Bahn service to the city centre.

From the airport to the M.O.C. you can choose between 2 routes: Option 1 – S1, U6: Take the S1 from the airport to Marienplatz. There you change to the underground U6 (Fröttmaning/Garching-Forschungszentrum line) to Kieferngarten. From there it is a 5-minute walk to the M.O.C..

Option 2 – S8, U6: Take the S8 from the airport to Marienplatz. There you change to the underground U6 (Fröttmaning/Garching-Forschungszentrum line) to Kieferngarten. From there it is about a 5-minute walk to the M.O.C..
