1.1 General energy informationWhat is a programmer?...an Explanation for Householders(as recommended by the Energy Savings Trust)

Programmers allow you to set ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ time periods. Some models switch the centralheating and domestic hot water on and off at the same time, while others allow the domestic hotwater and heating to come on and go off at different times. Set the ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ time periods tosuit your own lifestyle. On some programmers you must also set whether you want the heating andhot water to run continuously, run under the chosen ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ heating periods, or bepermanently off.

The time on the programmer must be correct. Some types have to be adjusted in spring andautumn at the changes between Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time. You may beable to temporarily adjust the heating programme, for example, ‘Override’, ‘Advance’, or ‘Boost’.These are explained in the manufacturer’s instructions. The heating will not work if the roomthermostat has switched the heating off. And, if you have a hot-water cylinder, the water heatingwill not work if the cylinder thermostat detects that the hot water has reached the correcttemperature.

2.1 Installation and mounting

2.2 General siting information

Identify a suitable site to locate the unit. Fig. 1gives guidance on optimum positioning and sitingrestrictions.

Do not place behind curtains.Do not place above or below sources of heat.

2.3 Wiring and wall mounting

Undo the retaining screw underneath theprogrammer. Fig. 2(a). Insert a screwdriver asshown and carefully prise the programmer looseand lift away from backplate.Wiring can be routed from behind or if surfacemounted, through the breakout tab to the left ofthe retaining screw at the bottom of the backplate.Fix the backplate to the wall using the screwsprovided.Connect the wiring into the backplate connectorsas shown in Fig. 3.The input to terminal 1 may be supplied from themains supply or from the boiler wiringconnections as appropriate to the applianceused. Please consult the relevant boiler instructions forfurther guidance.Replace the programmer on the backplate andpress firmly down to fully engage the contact pinsand tighten the screw underneath theprogrammer.

3.1 Quick start guide

1. Connect mains power.

2. Press OK three times.

The default Standard programme runs.You can control the unit with the Override, ExtraHour or Mode buttons.

4. Setting the Heating Programmes

4.1 Running a default programme


The default programmes can be selected in the INSTALLER MENU. To access the installer’smenu, the device must be working in RUN mode.

Three programme types are possible on the programmer

DAILY The same ON/OFF time schedule is used every day.

WEEKLY A different time schedule can be programmed for each day.

5-2 One time schedule is used for Mon-Fri and a different one can be used for Sat & Sun.

For each programme type, three default programmes are provided. These have been designed toprovide heating at typical times throughout the day. The default programmes give you a startingpoint that you can personalise to your own requirements, please see the section 4.3 - 4.5.

You can choose the desired programme in the INSTALLER MENU as shown overleaf. Every programme has three pairs of ON/OFF switching times per day. Each time can be set between 3.00 am and 2.50 am (on the next day).*On/off periods with the same time cancel out - no switching will occur.

If you make any changes, you mustpress OK to confirm ALL ON/OFF pairsbefore pressing the SELECT button toreturn to the RUN mode otherwise yourchanges will be lost.

5. Operating Mode


5.1 Using the mode button

The operating mode may only be changed when RUN mode isactivated (green indicator lamp RUN must be ON). Pressingthe MODE button cycles through the following options:

OFF The system will remain OFF.

AUTO The system will be switched ON and OFF according to the set programme.

ONCE The heating will come on at the first programmed ON time and go OFF at the last programmed OFFtime.

CONT The system will remain ON continuously.

5.2 Override mode

The Override function (temporary programme override) allowsthe user to end the current running programme prematurely orstart a programme running before its scheduled start. Thisdepends on the current channel status. The Override functionapplies only to the current program and remains active untilthe next programme change. After that, the programmerreturns to AUTO mode.The Override function is only available when the device isrunning in AUTO and ONCE operating mode.

Press OVERRIDE once to activate.Press OVERRIDE again to cancel.

5.3 Extra hour mode

The extra hour button allows you to switch the system ON forup to 3 extra hours without altering the programme. When theblue central heating indicator lamp is OFF, pressing theEXTRA HOUR button switches the heating ON for just onehour. When the blue central heating indicator lamp is ON,pressing an EXTRA HOUR button extends the programmedON period by one hour. Further presses of the EXTRA HOURbutton will increase the extra hour period by one hour for eachbutton press, up to a maximum of 3 hours. To cancel the extrahours, press the EXTRA HOUR button until the message EXTHOUR disappears from the display. The system returns toprevious status.

5.4 Holiday mode

The Holiday function allows you to switch OFFyour heating system when you are away fromhome, but resumes normal operation on the dayof your return.

1. Make sure the device is working in RUNmode.

2. Press the HOLIDAY button.

3. Select desired numbers of days, + or - andconfirm with OK.

Holiday mode is activated.

To cancel the Holiday function, just press theHOLIDAY button again. If you use the holidayfunction during winter you should ensure that youhave a secondary frost protection device in yoursystem to prevent frost damage.

6. Installer Information


6.1 Installer menu

The programmer has a special installer’s menuwhere some features can be adjusted to suit yourlifestyle or preferences. To access to installersmenu (INST MENU) the device must be workingRUN mode (green indicator lamp RUN must beON).

To save your settings, continue scrolling throughthe menu options with + key, until you once againsee INST MENU / – OK + and leave theinstaller’s menu with the + key.

To cancel the installer’s menu, press the selectbutton.The following settings are possible:

6.1 Installer menu

DIGI CLOCK: Shows the current time (hours/minutes) in a digital and analogue clock formatSetting possibilities:NO: Digital clock not shown (Default value).YES: Digital clock shown. If digital clock is set YES, you can choose between 12 HRS (AM-PM) or24 HRS format.

BACKLIGHT: Setting possibilities:PERMANENT ON: Backlight always ON.PERMANENT OFF: Backlight always OFF.BUTTON PRESSED: Backlight ON when any pushbutton is pressed. Backlight goes OFF 20seconds after the last button press (Default value).

S/W CHANGE: Automatic Summer/Winter time change. Summer time starts on the last Sunday ofMarch (1:00 am to 2:00 am) and ends on last Sunday of October (2:00am to 1:00am), then Wintertime starts.Setting possibilities:ON: S/W time change will be done automatically (Default).OFF: S/W time change must be done manually.

PROG TYPE: Menu to select daily, week-weekend, weekly programming. This value will beapplied by central heating programming method.Setting possibilities:Daily: All days (Monday - Sunday) are programmed with the same ON/OFF time schedule.Weekly: You can program each day (Monday, Tuesday, ...) with a different ON/OFF time schedule5-2: You can program Monday - Friday with a ON/OFF time schedule and Saturday - Sunday witha different one.

NR PERIODS: The number of adjustable time periods defined by ON-OFF pairs to control the timeprogrammes.Setting possibilities:3 ON-OFF: adjust maximum 3 ON-OFF time periods (Default value).2 ON-OFF: adjust maximum of 2 ON-OFF time periods.

DEFAULT PRGS: Time programme that will appear by default when running in AUTO mode or asbase point to customize according to users lifestyle.Setting possibilities:STDHOMEECOFor detailed explanation of the profiles, see Section 4.1 “Running a default programme”

RESET: Reset all parameters of installation menu to factory default.

To leave the installer’s menu press the + key.



6.2 Disposal

Dispose of the packaging materials correctlyaccording to legal requirements and regulations.

Please recycle where possible.

Do not throw electrical and electroniccomponents in the bin. These should be taken toa recycling centre.
