ROM THE SIMS IN JAPAN N WSL TT R April 1966Dear Fr i end s

Lois mother, Mrs. Ethel Lutton, from St. Petersburg, Pla. arrived in Tokyo on Feb. 9 for a visi t with us. Except for a bout withthe f lu she has been gett ing along fine. She has been contributinga lo t of humor to the household as vrell as helping a lo t in the workof getting ready for our big t r ip and a l l of us have been enjoyingh e r v s t immensely .The l ad ies of Lois* Bible Class are taking turns inv i t ing thec lass to t he i r homes fo r the meetings on the second and four th Wednesdays of each month, as a kind of welcome to Grandma and farewellto Sims sensei (teacher). They try to outdo each other by servinga ll kinds of exquisite and strange things to eat. Mrs. Lutton willhave a wealth of stor ies to t e l l her friends when she gets back home.^ - C^VEMTiaN ^

March 29 - April 1 the seventeenth annual convention of our Japanese brethren vjas held in a Youth Hostel on the outskirts of Tokyo. The attendance averaged around 60 or 70 for a l l sessions. We wereencouraged by the good spir i t of fel lowship and the high quality ofthe messages, and think the 5 or 6 Japanese preachers who took theprimary responsibility did a good job of planning and carrying out theconvention. There is developing a sense of brotherhood, identi ty andunity among our small group of churches in Japan for which we givet h ank s t o Ch r i s t th e head and b u i l d e rA 72 year old lady has been attending Nakano church and LoisWednesday Ladies Class for about 2 years. Recently she told some ofus she would l ike to be bap tized but her family was afraid she wouldcatch pneumonia from the cold water in th e w inter time. Some of thea le r t ladies of the church suggested that she be baptized in the YouthHos te l s la rge bath pool during the convention, since i t was heated. So sh e d ecided to do t h a t and was immersed a f te r the af ternoon sess ionon March 30,

RESURRECT IONThe f i r s t vieek o f April th ree of the Tokyo churches had shor tevangelistic meetings, using preachers who remained over af ter theconvent ion. On Resurrect ion Sunday we had be t t e r than usual a t tendancea t ll the s e rv i ce s That af te rnoon I preached fo r a sma l l Koreanchurch and then performed a wedding ceremony immediately af ter the worship service. About 10 of the folks who came early for the weddingheard the sermon, and several of them remarked that i t was the f i rs tChristian message they had ever heard. Only 2 people came to the even

ing service at Nakano church, but one of those was a doctor from ourneighborhood who has been zealously inquiring recently. We had a longand ser ious discuss ion o f the f a c tua l i t y and meaning of the Resurrect ion. So although we had no baptisms on that Lord s Day I took somecomfort from the knowledge that I had oppor tuni tie s to reach some whohadn t yet heard the facts, commands and promises of the Gospel.FURLOUGH PREPARATIONS

Many of the things we want to se l l are already spoken for. Some things we are taking home with us are already packed up.
