Similar artist/band case studies

The Smiths The Smiths are an indie pop band,

similar to Belle and Sebastian. There band was created in Manchester in 1982, popular for the partnership between the song writer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. The band also consisted of two other members Mike Joyce the drummer and Andy Rourke who played bass. The Smiths were significant in British history as they were acclaimed the most popular band of the 80s in the British Independent music industry.

Comparison Belle & Sebastian’s genre of music is

particularly similar to The Smiths, as both bands represent a indie pop genre.

Comparison The similarities are in the style in which

these bands write music. Stuart Murdoch the song writer for Belle & Sebastian and Morrissey of The Smiths are storytellers and this is how they connect with there audience. Belle & Sebastian have often been compared with the influential band ‘The Smiths’ largely due to there experiences of being in love, growing up and every day life. This ultimately reflects on both bands music. These writers have the quality of putting a story into words and the comparisons become clearer between them when you notice there similar topics of discussion and vocal approach as compared to there sound.

Love

Another similar band is love, they are a band originated in America in the 1960’s to 70’s. This is again the same as Belle & Sebastian and The Smiths, they thrive in there music by there lead singer/songwriter Arthur Lee and there guitarist Johnny Ecols.

Love is particularly diverse in its music as is “the smiths and Belle & Sebastian.” Despite them categorized in the genre of indie, you cannot pinpoint there exact sound of music, they introduce elements of all types of music. Love is well known for this and in my opinion this was the focal similarity between all of my similar artist/bands including Bob Dylan.
