The Silence of the Lambs Thriller | 31 May 1991 (UK) A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims.

The movie does an excellent job of creating Hannibal Lector, and his behaviours are consistent and similar to the behaviours of people who have Antisocial Personality Disorder. Like most other people with this psychological disorder, Hannibal shows no remorse for hurting others, especially the people who gets in his way, and he is certainly fine with committing murder. He manipulates people to get what he wants and amuses himself by offending and toying around with others, displaying a common symptom of people with Antisocial Personality Disorder, a disregard for other people’s rights."

This poster does contain the features of a main poster. It has the name of the movie, the main actors names, hints to what the film is about and at the bottom it has the producers, directors etc.

The colours used are mainly white and black. The white is used to show the face more against the black background, the white connotes purity which could be what the character is like. The black could show danger and mystery through he film. The other colours used are fiery colours, orange and red, this is used for the eyes, the moth and the title at the bottom of the poster. The orange and red could connote blood and fore which goes with the genre of the film, Thriller.

The insect covers the woman's mouth and as a consequence, only increases the mystery about her. The insect appears to have a skull covering its head/upper body. Skulls are typically associated with danger and fear, which serves to heighten the sense of danger and fear that this poster creates, which is further conventional of the thriller genre.

A list of the main actors in the film is also included on the poster. This is a convention of the form and is important because it can help to sell a movie. If someone is fan of a particular actor then they might be persuaded to watch the film.

The main actors in this film are:

Jodie Foster ... Clarice Starling Anthony Hopkins ... Dr. Hannibal Lecter Scott Glenn ... Jack Crawford

These actors are also used as a USP

The messages are primarily visual since there is no tagline expert witness on this poster. The poster has a face of a character, a moth with a skull on its back and just a few names of actors and producers to describe the film as much as possible in just a poster. The use of a scared face shows that something bad could happen and the moth must be a main part of the film for it to be featured on the poster.

Mystery is a gratification promised, this is a thriller film which could suggest danger but also the unknown. You can watch and follow the film to see if you can work out who did what and what happened, this helps the audience to be more involved. You cant see who the character is in this poster or the actor used, this helps with the mystery aspect of the film. I don’t think you need any previous knowledge of the film to know what the poster is trying to say, the features of this poster are unique to this film so you couldn’t work out what it is anyway from the film before, Man hunter

I think this is a very good poster because it doesn’t show much about the film itself, you need to watch the film to know why the moth was used and why it has a skull on its back. It has the main actors name on the front to persuade more people to watch the film. The red used in the poster shows blood and danger and might be aimed at an older audience who like thriller films. I don’t think this film is aimed at a young audience, if you have watched the film before or read the books you know what the film will be about, I think it would be too scary for a younger audience.

I don’t think that this poster is offensive but some people could be offended. If you look very closely the skull id made out of naked people. Some people might be offended to see naked people on the front of a movie poster but I think this is used as a warning that the film is not suitable for a younger audience. There is nothing terrible or truly offensive about this poster, I don’t think anyone would notice the skull if they just walked past it and didn’t really take on notice of what the film poster was for, or what it featured.
