Style guide

This style guide has been produced to ensure that

signage is used consistently across Western Australian

State Government capital works. Its purpose is to

present information about the project to the community

in a professional, effective and consistent manner.

It applies to capital work projects constructed by the

WA Public Service sector. Projects jointly funded by

the Federal Government or those deemed to be Major

Projects may be treated on a case-by-case basis or

require further discussion about signage arrangements.

Criteria

Signs are installed on capital works projects where:

• there is sufficient foot and/or vehicular traffic to

justify installing a sign;

• the project is valued at more than $500,000, and/or

• the project is of significant community interest or

profile to warrant it.

Approvals

Project teams are encouraged to make

recommendations on the content and placement of

signs, however a final pdf of signage artwork must be

emailed to [email protected] for approval

before any production commences.

Acknowledgements

The State Government sometimes has partners on

a project. The logos of departments and funders are

to be accommodated in the lower section of the project

sign and must be smaller than the State Coat of Arms.

Department web addresses can be placed on the

sign to help people find out more. In these cases, the

website home page must clearly show links to the

information about the project.

Digital device

So users can be reassured that they have arrived at the

right destination when they click through to department

homepages it is recommended that the department

incorporates Part of the Bigger Picture branding on the

homepage as per the below suggestions. Supplied

digital files (refer to Page 2 for contact details) are

available and should always be used and never altered

in order to keep consistency over various websites.

the state Coat of arms

Always use the State Coat of Arms colour version placed in the white tab in the header as supplied.

A fixed relationship has been created for the State Coat of Arms within a tab, which should never be

altered, modified or reproduced in any way. Correct artwork files should be utilised.

The State Coat of Arms is supplied with the correct amount of white in the tab

Common Badging, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, is the keeper of the crest.

Colour palette

Colour is an integral part of our identity. There are essentially 2 key colours that make up the

sign design. Blue and Sky are the primary brand colours. White and grey also feature in our brand.

Only the following specified colours should be used.

imagerYOne single image should be chosen which best represents the project. These can be actual photographs, artist impressions, CGI renders or a stock photo or other imagery which helps to identify the project.

Original image Portrait crop

Landscape crop

Image at standard resolution. Acceptable for production Image low resolution. Not acceptable for production

To achieve the best results with the imagery for each particular sign, use the Industry standard formula. Your image needs to be 100ppi when placed at 100%.

As demonstrated below, the use of tight, close-up images is an effective way of communicating information about the project. Crop images to delete any white borders. When cropping choose areas of interest or project features to provide a single focal point.

sign sizes

The size of the sign should be selected with consideration for the following points:• public profile and prominence of the project• size of site• visibility of sign location• profile of project• amount of information that needs to

be communicated

The combination of images and text shown below are examples only. Pdf or EPS templates of these signs are available and must be used (refer to page 2 for contact details).

other size options

Where it is not possible to erect one of the three sign sizes outlined in the design layouts due to space limitations, the following 600mm x 600mm or 900mm x 900mm, small sign size design may be used. If this sign design is used and is to be erected next to existing signage, the height of the new sign should be at least the same as the existing signage.

Where a project size, location or significance warrants it, a sign larger than 7200mm x 3600mm may be used. Artwork for large sign design can be applied and scaled accordingly.
