Congratulations to our 2020 Shamble Winners!

Golf NewsMen’s Spring Member-Guest May 1 & 2This is a new event on the tournament calendar this year and meant to be a different tournament than the Member-Guest tournament in the fall. The tournament will begin with a nine-hole Shamble format on Friday afternoon followed by dinner and team auction. The field will play 27 holes on Saturday with three different nine-hole formats including Modified Alternate Shot, Better Ball & Scramble. Teams will be flighted by handicap and the top team in each flight will participate in a Shootout immediately following the final round on the 18th hole. $475 team entry fee includes Prime Rib dinner on Friday night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, tournament prizes and tee gifts. Registration will open on Saturday, March 14. The tournament will be open to the first 48 teams that register. Get your partner and join in the fun!

Shamble Results After a one week delay due to the snowstorm, the men played the Shamble Tournament which is a two man, modified scramble format. Frank Remmes and Mason Lutz are the Net Champs winning a chip off over Ed Odmark and Pat Ludeman on #18. Robbie Millard and Wes Nobles are the Gross Champs winning by one shot. Rick O’Dom and John Cahill dominated the Masters Flight with a 5 shot victory in their flight. Thank you to all who played in this fun event!

Men’s Spring KickoffMark it on your calendar, Saturday March 7th we will run the Men’s Spring Kickoff. This is a four person team, two better ball format with no handicap restrictions. We will get started with an 8:30 AM shotgun with food and prizes afterwards. Grab your favorite members and sign up today in the Golf Shop or let us help you find a team!

Men’s Year Long Match Play TournamentsRegistration opened for the year-long match play tournaments on February 15. We will have individual and two-man teams for overall Net, Senior, and Gross formats. Believe me, spots will fill up fast for these tournaments, do not procrastinate! Participants have a full month to schedule and play their match each round. Brackets will be finalized March 14st with the first matches having six weeks to be completed. These matches will run throughout the year with the finals completing in either August or September.

Become a member of the Hole in One Club today and the next time you make a hole in one, you receive $5 from each member of the club to be used in the golf shop as credit. BERKELEY SENIOR CORNER

Some say that age 50 is the new 30. But age 50 brings with it a new set of perks. For golfers at Berkeley we have the Berkeley Senior Men’s Golf Association available to you with fun tour-naments, match play, buddies trips, socials and so much more. Membership in BSMGA includes automatic membership in the North Atlanta Senior Men’s Golf Association. Berkeley is a member club with 16 other country clubs in the North Atlanta area. Eight of the clubs will host a tournament in 2020, one each month during the golfing season March to October. Half the $40 membership fee is paid to the NASMGA to operate the official web site. All members of the Berkeley Seniors will have individ-ual accounts with NASMGA to enter tournaments and follow the results. The full schedule is as follows:

Match Play:In addition, 18 Match Play Teams Compete in the NASMGA 2020 Match Play Championship and Berkeley is one of those teams. The schedule for 2020 is detailed on the www.nasmga.com website. Eighteen clubs will participate in 3 divisions of 6 teams each. Berkeley is in the Masters Division with Polo, Brookfield, Olde Atlanta, Fairways of Canton and Indian Hills. Three matches will be at home and 3 away. The Berkeley team will play at Polo for our first match in April. Details to follow. Barry Lakas has agreed to serve as Match Play Captain again this year, and Ed Odmark will serve as Co-Captain. All correspondence regarding match play should be directed to him at brlakas@aol.com. New members please let Barry know if you would like to join the team.

Superintendent News March 2020

Now that Spring is almost here, we will still monitor temperatures in case we need to cover greens. We are not out of the woods just yet. As the temperatures warm, we will begin to spray the greens with liquid fertilizers. Once the greens begin to sprout out from the winter, we will start to slowly lower the heights of the mower to get the greens where we want going into summer. You will notice during this process the greens may slow down considerably, and it’s not because we did not cut them. After going through the winter and when the grass wakes up, it grows much faster than you would expect. You will see very nice days where the greens roll great in the morning and much slower in the afternoon. Fair warning!!

We are in the middle of mulching areas on the course and spraying winter weeds that the Round Up application did not get. Once we finish, we hope to rent a lift and chipper to begin cleaning up some low hanging limbs around the course. When the fairways and tees begin to green, you will me on the little blue tractor slinging fertilizer to take advantage of the Spring rains.

Tennis Ball Recycle!!!

Don’t throw away your old tennis balls! Please bring your tired old tennis balls and put them in our tennis ball recycle bin at the tennis shop. These balls will be used for schools, nursing homes and pet owners.

Have your Racquet repairs done before Winter Season begins! Tune up your racquet with a new grip and strings. All repairs completed within 24 hours or same day service if requested.
