    57Care and maintenance

Care and maintenanceYour phone has been designed and craftedwith great care and attention and should also

be treated with care. The suggestions belowwill help you to enjoy your phone for manyyears.• Protect your phone from moisture and

humidity! Precipitation, humidity and liq-uids contain minerals that will corrodeelectronic circuits. Should your phonenonetheless become wet, disconnect itimmediately from any power supply,

remove the battery and leave the openphone to dry at room temperature!• Do not use or store the phone in dusty,

dirty areas. Its moving parts may becomedamaged.

    • Do not store your phone in hot areas. Hightemperatures can shorten the life of elec-tronic devices, damage batteries and warpor melt certain plastics.

    • Do not store your phone in cold areas. When the phone warms up again (to itsnormal ambient temperature), moisturecan form inside the phone, which maydamage electronic components.

    • Do not drop, knock or shake your phone.Rough handling can damage componentsinside the device!

    • Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning sol-

vents, or strong detergents to clean thephone!

The suggestions given above apply equallyto your phone, battery, charger and allaccessories. If any of these parts are notworking properly, take them to your nearestqualified service outlet. The personnel therewill assist you and, if necessary, repair thedevice.

    Battery quality

declarationThe capacity of your mobile phone battery isreduced each time you charge/discharge it.Storing the battery at temperatures that aretoo high or too low also causes a gradualloss of capacity. This can significantlyreduce the operating times of your mobilephone, even after it has been fully charged.

The battery is, however, designed to becapable of being charged and discharged fora period of six months from when the mobilephone was purchased. Following this six-month period, we recommend replacing yourbattery if you experience a significant drop inperformance. Only purchase original Sie-mens batteries.

Display qualitydeclarationFor technological reasons, a few small dotswith different colours may appear in the dis-play in exceptional cases.

Please note that the appearance of brighteror darker dots generally does not mean thata fault has occurred.

The limitsinclude a substantial safety margin designedto assure the safety of all persons, regard-less of age and health.

Before a radio equipment may be placed onthe market, compliance with the Europeanlaws and the respective technical limit require-ments must be demonstrated. Only then theCE mark may be affixed**. The limit for mobilephones recommended by the Council of theEuropean Union employs a unit of measure-ment known as the Specific Absorption Rate,or SAR. This SAR limit is 2.0 W/kg***. This cor-responds with the requirements of the Interna-tional Commission for Non-Ionizing RadiationProtection ICNIRP and was adopted into theEuropean Norm for Mobile Radio Equipment

EN 50360. The SAR of mobile phones isdetermined in accordance with the Euro-pean Norm EN 50361. This involves meas-uring the maximum value in all frequencybands of the mobile phone with the phonetransmitting at its highest power level. Theactual SAR level of the phone during normaloperation may be well below the maximumvalue. This is because the phone is

designed to operate at multiple power levels

so as to use only the power required to reachthe network. In general, the closer you are to

a base station, the lower the power output. The highest SAR value for this model phonewhen tested for compliance against thenorm is

    0.73 W/kg****.

The SAR information can also be found onthe Siemens web site atwww.siemens-mobile.com

While there may be differences between theSAR levels of various phones and at variouspositions, all Siemens products meet thelegal requirements.

need for any special precautions foruse of mobile phones.

requisite for the placing on the marketand the free movement of goods withinthe European internal market.

THIS MOBILE PHONE MEETS THE LIMITSFOR PROTECTION OF THE HEALTH OFTHE PUBLIC FROM THE EFFECTS OFEXPOSURE TO ELECTROMAGNETICFIELDS

Your mobile phone is a radio transmitter andreceiver. It is designed and manufacturednot to exceed the limits for exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy recommended byinternational guidelines from theInternational Commission on Non-IonizingRadiation Protection (ICNIRP). These limitsare part of comprehensive guidelines for theprotection of the public and establish permit-ted levels of RF energy for the population. The guidelines were confirmed by independ-ent scientific organisations through periodicand thorough evaluation of scientific

studies*. The limits include a substantialsafety margin designed to assure the safetyof all persons, regardless of age and health.

The exposure limit for mobile phonesemploys a unit of measurement known asthe Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. TheSAR limit stated in the international guide-lines is 2.0 W/kg**. Tests for SAR are con-ducted in all frequency bands using standard

operating positions with the phone transmit-ting at its highest power level. The actualSAR level of the phone during operation canbe well below the maximum value. This isbecause the phone is designed to operate atmultiple power levels so as to use only thepower required to reach the network. In gen-eral, the closer you are to a base station, thelower the power output.
