Sians Evaluation of Front CoverI used a young female as my artist on the front cover to emphasize with the particular demographic of the magazine as we decided it would be young females who enjoy RNB music. To make her style look hip hop I chose a tight top and stylish trousers which are in fashion at the moment. Then I needed to think about the colour scheme of the magazine and as me and Amber decided to make it blue and white I chose a blue top with a flowery print to make the look more feminine then blue jeans. This was a medium shot and she had her arms on her hips and looked very powerful and domient. This was to show an inspiring, independent female which would emphasize with the audience. However I did have to edit the photo using Photoshop. I had to edit the lighting making it more low key to represent her as bright and glamorous. I also made her skin more radiant and flawless using effects from Photoshop.

To engage with the target audience I included RnB artists on the front cover which are in right now and also including ‘gossip’ as from our questionnaires we discovered that people want to read more about gossip in music magazines. My front cover includes interesting headlines that people would want to read about. For example ‘top ten tantrums’ which also included the technique of triplets. This is a type of story the target audience would want to read about.

I also included banners with ‘Jodie's shock statement revealed.’ The banners were overlapping each other which I used to give the effect that there's layers to this story that the audience would want to uncover. I also included shapes such as circles and rectangles then used effects to shade them in making them look weirder and unique. I thought this was good as it went with the title ‘FUNK’ as it looked funky.

The entertainment of the magazine was all the story headlines scatted either side of the magazine to give the effect that there's lot to discover inside the magazine.

The abbreviated noun ‘VIP’ gives the magazine importance and makes it seem popular and a famous magazine.

I used a plain bold text which meant that it could be read clearly and it didn’t get to complicated as my research into front covers of magazines showed me that most text was plain and simple.

The layout of my magazine to make it attractive I kept to traditional RnB magazine front covers that I previously researched. I had a bold masthead covering the top of the page, the a main image in the middle, with text either side overlapping the image. However the background was a wall as I took the picture outside so I had to rub out the background carefully around the artist to make the background clear and white. However I wanted the artist to be overlapping the masthead so I then rubbed out part of the masthead so I could do this. I kept to typical conventions of music magazines. I used one main image on the front page so it catches the audiences eye which is why I tried to keep the text minimal.

The colour I used was blue and white which I used because it looks young, fresh and blue represents brightness and happiness which is what I wanted the audience to feel when they looked at the front cover.

Masthead in uppercase, bold and plain keeping to conventions of researched music magazines.

Price little in the corner as its not important.

VIP with an exclamation mark draws the readers in making the magazine seem important. Also its lopcated just below the masthead which makes it look hidden and protected, making the magazine seem even more famous.

This makes the magazine look funky and also provides entertainment as the audience would want to read into this.

Including artists that are know in the industry draws in the particular demographic and its also in upper case to show importance. The writing is also joined closely together to show that there all grouped in the same industry and giving a hint that in the magazine threes and interview with them together which provides interest. The word ‘interviews’ is in a rectangular box as its important and is what we found out in questionnaires is what the audience wants to see in music magazines.

The barcode is in the bottom hidden not wasting any space.

I have used two banners with a contrast of the two main colours blue and white to give a funky interesting effect. This also gives the effect that there's layers to this story which draws the audience in.

I kept to the house style and colour

I used the lexis ‘featuring’ to give the magazine an enthralling light. I used italics to give it a more enchanting look.

I used a blue border around the image to keep to the colour scheme and also make it look less dull

I used two images simply underneath each other to so the audience don’t feel overwhelmed.

I have made a rectangle diagonal and have also made it look 3D to give it an interesting glow

I have rubbed out the background of the pictures to give it a professional look

The layout of the contents of the magazine are squished together to give an interesting look by the numbers. The numbers are enlarged to show there a group containing the information by the side.

Evaluation Of double page spread

I kept the house style throughout my magazine and used my masthead at the top of the page in the same font and upper case.

The headline of my story is ‘Bitch Booty and Boobs.’ I used the repetition of ‘B’ to give the title a flow and also as these words

are quite blunt, squatted around it makes the reader want to read more into it.

There is in a quote below from the artist which describes her as quite an independent domineering woman. It also shows a lot of

people talk about her but know one has given her a real, true interview. This makes our magazine seem of high standards as its got a

first interview with the celebrity it also makes people want to read it as if everyone talks about her and knows about her so does the

audience.

The layout of the double page spread follows the conventions of music magazines with the text on one side and the pictures on the

other. I have also included the questions from the interviewer in black and the answers from the interviewee in blue so it makes it

clear and the reader doesn’t get confused. This also then gives a simple pattern.

I have chosen yet another artist to be on the double page spread to keep my readers interested so they don’t get bored of the same

person. I have chosen her to wear quite a sexy glamorous dress to go with the context of the page. As the article describes someone

who's quite sexy, bitchy and a typical celebrity. They are all medium shots with different typical modelling poses. I did this to show a

professional Photo shoot which gives the magazine that high standard and also to show her how the context describes her as erotic

and sensual. The colours of her clothes I did as black and pink, black to follow the colours of the magazine and pink to show a more

sweet, feminine side of the model which contradicts the context showing a statement the artist has created which shows the real her,

which is what the audience wants to see.

I enhanced the makeup on the models face by changing the contrast and lighting to make her look more fake to flow with the context.

I also rubbed out the background around the model to make it look like a professional photo shoot.

I used the short phrase ‘exclusive to funk’ to make it clear to the audience that this story is only in this magazine, which makes the

audience want to read it and not bother looking in other magazines. I highlighted funk in blue to make it stand out on the page and

brand the story as it is ‘exclusive to funk.’

The journalism of my double page spread

As I found out from my questionnaire that the target audience would like to see more gossip in music magazines I decided to create a story that is really back stabbing, gossip, a real story that would make the audience be shocked and star struck by. I started with the title with the first word being ‘bitch’ which is a young, urban word that describes someone. This will emphasize with the target audience as they are young and urban. It also makes them want to read in more depth as the word is quite erupt and rude. People want to read about them sort of people its interesting. The nouns ‘booty’ and ‘boobs’ also draws young, immature urban people in as this Is funny, and it makes the demographic want to read on because its crude.

The quote after from the artist gives the reader a look into what she says as it is an interview about her. The interview describes the typical life of someone who's trying to be big and famous. This is a typical interview story that I found in most music magazines which I researched. It is proven effective and its interesting so I decided to base my interview on them. Also in my research I found out that readers are interested in negative viewpoints on certain artists as I made this person look like them particular artists the readers are more likely to want to read about it.

How have I improved since my preliminary task

I have improved dramatically since my preliminary task. When I made my preliminary I used Microsoft word and had no idea of how to edit, what formats were available to do my magazine on. For this reason my preliminary was very basic with no edits on pictures. The font and colour was basic whereas with my final product I looked up different fonts on the web and used a range of fonts whereas on my preliminary I only used one type of font. I didn’t know how to edit the background to make all the different layers fit together and for this reason my preliminary looked un professional.

My final product all the layers fitted together as I was able to rub out the backgrounds given it a professional look, I also have learned different skills to edit pictures, to add shapes and different techniques to complex and improve the overall look.

I also borrowed a camera as mine was basic and I gained knowledge on different effects to use on this camera to improve my picture as my pictures on my preliminary was basic and not very good quality.

Photo shootIn choosing what photo to use we had to come up with the appropriate clothing, poses and types of people to use.

The making of my magazine

I used this to shade in certain parts of the photo to give it different lighting

I used this to straighten my image as it was blurry when I made it larger

This is what I used for all text

I used this to cut and crop certain parts of the image

I used this to rub out the background around the picture so all the layers could blend together

I used this tool to make the artists skin flawless.

I used this tool to make the different shapes

Page 12: Sians evaluation

I used this to edit the lighting, colour, contrast to make the picture more Sharpe and glamorous

Page 13: Sians evaluation

I also changed certain layers to make the shapes look 3D and also the pictures blur to add certain effects

Page 14: Sians evaluation

This is how I was able to move between layers and able to duplicate certain layers to edit and erase to give more effects

Developing and challenging forms and conventions

We wanted to keep up the pattern of conventions as the audience would feel familiar to this and also it has proven to work. I did this by keeping the layout the same as other magazines I have researched. This included the main title at the top centre of each page, one main picture in the middle of the front page with text either side. However we developed these ideas throughout the magazine as we changed the masthead to blue whereas many music magazines keep it black. We thought this made the magazine look less dull. We also only included one artist on the front cover, many music magazines include around 5 and edit them together. We thought it would be more effective with one main picture and edit her to make her look amazing.

Page 17: Sians evaluation

Representation Of Social GroupsOur social group is young female who enjoy RnB music. To represent this we used the colours blue, white and black which is usually the colours found on RnB music magazines and also on the particular target audience. We also included named artists that are from this background to emphasize with this social group.

We represented are artists as young, inspiring, confident and glamorous which is what most of our target audience would be. We also used are journalism skills to portray them in this like reflecting on the photography.

Using an interview of someone who's trying to break out into the music industry and is dealing with being judged at the beginning, the certain problems they have to go through to achieve success. This is what is written in many RnB magazines so I feel I have achieved the particular social group as we have got artists who are quite glamorous, independent, slight attitude and high class which is what is seen in RNB magazines.
