President’s Piece

Howdy! I don’t know about you all, but I love January. A new year to set new goals and go after them with new energy and a renewed sense of passion! The BV-SHRM Board met on Sunday, January 5, to reaffirm our long-term goals involving core membership, financial stability and increased visibility, and to establish our short-term initiatives that will ensure we see success in these areas in 2014. I believe we all left with a renewed energy and sense of commitment to our mission to promote fellowship and a better understanding of the mutual problems, issues, and solutions affecting those in the human resources field…and to our vision to provide our members an environment to learn, develop and enhance their HR skills. To read our full mission and vision, please visit our Web site bv-shrm.shrm.org.

At our February monthly meeting, I will provide you a brief overview of those initiatives that we have set in place. Additionally, as a first step toward financial stability, Krystal Broussard and I will provide a more thorough overview of our 2014 budget. I promise to not take up too much time, because we have an excellent speaker lined up for this meeting. Anna Satterfield, Ph.D. is an Associate Director in Human Resources with oversight responsibilities for the Employee Assistance Program and Employee Relations. Dr. Satterfield will be speaking to us on violence risk assessments and violence prevention in the workplace. Please remember that starting this month our meetings will be held at the beautiful, brand new Hilton Garden Inn on University Drive East next to the Physicians Centre and Penncro. In an effort to fit their meal preparation requirements, we must turn in our RSVPs on Monday, February 3, so please make sure and RSVP as soon as possible. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our new location on Thursday, February 6. Sincerely, Katherine Kleemann
