DOUBT The desire to be able to prove the existence of a divinity has troubled humanity since human consciousness first be-came aware of the divine. To this very day we are fond of saying that any number of things—from sunsets to hot fudge sundaes—are “proof that there is a God.” We get so caught up in the story of “doubting Thomas” that we fail to notice that today’s Gospel gives us John’s account of Pentecost, the bestowing of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples following the Resurrection. Thomas, evidently, missed out not only on seeing the Risen Christ, but receiving the Holy Spirit as well. This is not to be taken lightly and, perhaps, makes Thomas’ disbelief a bit easier to comprehend. It also makes his professing that Jesus is his Lord and God—the only time the New Testament explicitly refers to Jesus Christ as “God”—more remarkable.

In the spirit of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish is to be a humble, bilin-gual, pro-life, pro-family Catholic community, joyfully announcing the Gospel. We welcome all to religious edu-cation in the fullness of the Truth entrusted to the Church. We invite all to celebrate with reverence and unity the real presence of Christ in the rites of our Liturgy. We call our members to the humble obedience of faith and to sac-rificial service for the sake of building up the Body of Christ.

P A C The Church is much more than a building. By respecting the life of the tiny unborn at the Memorial and by the consoling and healing ministry that accompanies this, we are building Christ’s Church. By spending Holy Hours before the Blessed Sacrament, we will be building Christ’s Church! You may contribute to this work of God by putting your donations in the offering box in an envelope marked “Adoration Chapel” or simply “Building Fund”, or at www.guadalupebakersfield.org/donate using the button “Give to Our Lady’s Shrine”. Please contribute also with your prayers.
P F P A C
Dear Mary and Joseph, Holy Spouses, as a phase of con-struction for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Copa-troness of the Unborn, please guide us to prepare a Chap-el for Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in imitation of your first adoration of Jesus in the manger of Bethlehem. Amen.

Prayer Presented by Leo XIII and St. John Paul II To you, O Blessed Joseph, we come in our trials, and having asked the help of your most holy spouse, we confidently ask your patronage also. Through that sacred bond of charity which united you to the Im-maculate Virgin Mother of God and through the fatherly love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you to look graciously upon the beloved inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by his blood, and to aid us in our necessities with your power and strength. O most provident guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen chil-dren of Jesus Christ. Most beloved father, dispel the evil of falsehood and sin. Our most mighty protector, graciously assist us from heaven in our struggle with the powers of darkness. And just as you once saved the Child Jesus from mortal danger, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity. Shield each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your help, we may be able to live a virtuous life, to die a holy death, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.

W M C ? The most important life decisions need God’s blessing Sexual relations without a lifelong, public commitment
most often end up being hurtful Children deserve to be conceived and raised by two
loving parents in a lifelong home of grace Catholic couples living together without the Sacrament
are in a dangerous state of mortal sin Marriage is a vocation, a call from God, not just seek-
ing one’s pleasure. God gives His grace with the Sacrament of Matrimony Without God it is hard to make marriage last happily Couples married in Church can receive the Lord in
Holy Communion at Sunday Mass and the Sacrament of Confession when needed
Church weddings are the most beautiful and meaning-ful
Marriage is a public commitment affecting family, friends, and the Catholic community
It will be hard to teach one’s children the importance of making good decisions for their relationships while giving them a bad example
The body’s language of total giving expressed by sexu-al relations is a lie without marriage
