Embodying Christ’s inclusive love through heart, mind, and service
+ + +
*Please stand, in body or in spirit. Text printed in bold italics to be read in unison.
Prelude Beneath the Cross of Jesus Maker/arr. Sanborn Chiming of the Hour Welcome
Introit Look who gathers at Christ’s table! Hear the stories that they bring. Some are weeping; some are laughing; some have songs they want to sing. Others ask why they’re invited, burdened by the wrong they’ve done. Christ insists they all are welcome. There is room for everyone.
*Call to Worship (from Psalm 138) We gather to give thanks to God with all our heart. We gather to sing praises and rejoice in God’s love. God has created us and made us for God’s very self. In God we become everything our Maker has fashioned us to be.
*Hymn 17 Sing Praises to God, You Heavens!
*Invitation to Confession
*Prayer of Confession (silent confession) Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
*Assurance of Forgiveness
*The Peace of Christ Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

*Affirmation of Faith (adapted by members of FPC)
We believe in God, the Father Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. We seek to know God's will, to walk in God's ways, and to proclaim the Gospel to all people, by our lives as well as by our words. We work and pray for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human unity in our time. And we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness in our community and in our world. Amen.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table
Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is truly right and our greatest joy to praise you, O God … of every time and place who forever praise your name:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Holy God, we thank you for Jesus Christ … the sacrifice of our lives, for great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us … all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever. Amen. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

WORSHIP NOTES
And now for some liturgical trivia. Today is the
Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time on the liturgical
calendar. It isn’t ordinary, as in, regular or
mundane. Rather, Ordinary comes from the word
ordinal, as in, ordinal numbers (first, second third,
and so forth). The weeks in Ordinary Time count
forward from The Baptism of the Lord. After
Pentecost, they are checked backwards from the
last week of the church’s year, which is always
the 34th week in Ordinary Time.

CULTIVATING MINDFULNESS SKILLS
ADULT STUDY JUNE 10, 17, AND 24
11:15 A.M., FELLOWSHIP HALL
Be still and know that I am God. (Ps. 46:10)
Stillness is a diminishing commodity in our lives; yet, it is through stillness of body, mind, and soul that we strengthen our capacity to listen for God’s voice.
Mindfulness is a practice that has been an integral element of religious and spiritual traditions for millennia.
Today after worship, Steve Herbes will begin a 3-session study on mindfulness. The first session will be a general overview of what mindfulness is (and isn’t). The next two sessions (June 17 and 24) will focus on specific practices, such as seated and walking meditation.
Steve is a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and a licensed professional counselor. He has over 25 years’ experience in mindful-ness-based meditative practices.
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help
Kate Fulcher in the nursery on Father's Day
(next Sunday, June 17), 9 a.m.-noon. If you

KARM DONATIONS
If you have household items and
clothing to donate, consider taking them to
the KARM thrift store on the east end of
town. When you do, be sure to give them
First Presbyterian Church’s name. They will
send us a gift card for a percentage of the
value of your donations. Early Head Start
uses those to help the families they serve. In
that way your donation has a double impact.
Thank you.
DINNER & AUCTION JUNE 30 You are invited to a fundraiser for the
Kawale Orphan Outreach program on
Saturday, June 30, at 6:00 p.m. in the
fellowship hall. The early Sunday school
classes are hosting a dinner and auction to
raise funds for much needed renovations
for this outreach in Malawi.
Dinner will include Malawi-style food
and the auction will feature local and
international items, some from Malawi.
More details about the work and needs of
the Kawale Orphan Outreach are in the
June edition of The Banner.
Thank you for your donations Over the past few months, Prayer Shawl
Ministry received many donations of
lovely fabric and yarn, along with other
sewing and craft supplies. Since our
storage space is limited, we forwarded
some of these donations onto KARM and
have filled our shelves and bins to the
maximum. Therefore, with gratitude we
say we don't need any more donations at
this time. Thank you for your generosity.
