Shout Out from Graham and Broadview Middle Congratulations to Rebekah Davis, AIG Facilitator at Graham and Broadview Middle! Ms. Davis has been selected for the Innovative Blended Professional Learning Program called the Digital Leaders Coaches Network (DLCN) sponsored by the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation from NC State University. This year’s cohort of DLCN began Oct. 14, 2015.

Development supported by Project Tomorrow and with continuing support and partnership from the North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES), the DLCN was developed to assist schools and districts in the process of digital learning transitions, and to cultivate local capacity by providing support to those in coaching roles, as coaches are essential to leading and supporting student-centered digital learning and teaching. Ms. Davis was selected for this unique opportunity, and will join 62 other digital learning leaders from across North Carolina for the next eight months. Along with her new network of peers, she will receive ongoing, job-embedded professional learning opportunities to build her capacity in digital and personalized learning. She will also acquire strategies and knowledge related to best practices in leadership and supporting stakeholders at Graham and Broadview Middle Schools. Congratulations!

The DREAM Team at Eastern High School visits E.M. Yoder!

The students from the DREAM Team (Daring to Role Model Excellence as Athlete Mentors) at Eastern High School spent a few hours visiting classrooms to talk with students at E.M. Yoder about making the right choices. They discussed with students the importance of maintaining good grades in order to not only hold themselves to high standards to be successful in life but also to participate in sports in middle and high school. The high school students did a fabulous job making their visit a very interactive one for our children at E.M. Yoder. Kagan exercises were used with some groups of students as a way to allow students to share their thoughts with others, and skits were used to demonstrate the right and wrong way to make decisions.

E.M. Yoder feels fortunate to have the partnership that we have with Eastern High School. Patrick Stokes is the DREAM Team advisor at the high school.

Shout Out from Graham High Morgan Shearon, GHS Theatre Director

Graham High School Presents Eurydice By Sarah Ruhl. This is a play that focuses on the retelling of the myth of Orpheus from the perspective of Eurydice, his wife. This is a great opportunity to offer extra credit for attending and have students compare and contrast the myth with this adaptation of the play.

Shout Out to A-B Early College Bonnie Roane, Principal

Students Mirakel Davis and Mariana Suarez-Vega knew that attending Early College would be challenging. They decided that creating a study group would be a help to students and found a teacher, Mrs. McNeil, who was willing to be their group's adviser. The group meets on Wednesday afternoons after school and is open to all Early College students who want to attend.

Hats off to these two students for taking the initiative to create this support!

Shout Out to Broadview Middle Lynell Brown

Our 6th grade participated in an activity to promote the idea of" No Bullying"... because people aren’t like us. or because we don’t know others well or because we never met them or even because we are different and don’t understand these differences between people.

So, in an effort to purge bullying, picking, discrimination, we "Mixed it Up" at lunch!

At lunch, we sat with other classmates that we normally don't sit with or even know so we could get to know someone different from us, and meet some potentially new friends.

We need to teach good character just as we teach math and reading and teachers can really make the difference with these kinds of activities.

WAY TO GO 6TH GRADE!”

Shout Out to Community Business Partners

Seven local businesses have formed a consortium named Alamance CAP (Career Accelerator Program) to develop 4-year internship opportunities for qualified students in the rapidly-growing field of Mechatronics. The first student/parent interest meeting was held in the Eastern High media center on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd with an overflow crowd of interested students and their parents. GKN representative Barbara Gorman and Technical Precision Plastics representative Penny Rudd outlined the main points of the apprenticeship program and let families know that the businesses will hold open houses in a few weeks so students can visit to see what a future career could be like. 3 more district-wide student/parent interest meetings are scheduled during the next 2 weeks for any interested high school juniors and seniors and their parents to find out more about this program:

Tuesday, Nov 10 at Williams High 6 p.m. in the auditorium Thursday, Nov. 12 at Southern High 6 p.m. in the media center Monday, Nov.16 at Western High 6 p.m. in the media center
