Edifice is a dance film that tells the story of a woman’s revolt against the moral values imposed by society. In
the film, all the characters question the social trauma inflicted upon their bodily memory.

Television, and Psychology as a double major student. She has produced her own films and worked on
interdisciplinary projects with several artists from Turkey and other countries. Some of her films have been

Barış Sarhan (Istanbul, 1983) graduated with honors from the Graphic Design Department of Marmara
Fine Arts University in 2005. He has worked as an art director and graphic designer for Turkey’s leading
advertising agencies and won several design and advertising awards at both national and international
festivals. He made his first short film, Slippers, in 2009. He has also attended film studies programs at New
York University. Why All The Nightmares? is his first feature film project.

working on his first feature film project, Passed by Censor, which has been selected for both the Cannes Film
Festival Cinefondation Residence program 2015 and the Berlinale Talent Market 2015.

license, Ali finds himself stuck with a permit that allows him to access only certain types of books. Ali does

İpek Kent (1985) studied Visual Communication Design and holds a Master’s degree in Film and Television.
She has been working as a director and producer at Yedi Film since 2011. Her first short film, Farewell
Tune, was shown at various festivals. She is currently working on her debut feature, Passiflora and a Few
Memories.
Dilara and Kübra work as secretaries in one of Istanbul’s most affluent neighborhoods. Life Style tells the
story of how they choose sisterhood over rivalry and walk away from the things that irritate, oppress and
hurt them.
Gözde Onaran earned a BA in Psychology from Boğaziçi University and an MA in Filmmaking and Media
Ecology from NYU. She is currently a PhD candidate at ASCA, focusing on feminist film theory. She is an
editorial board member of the monthly cinema magazine, Altyazı.

A vignette about life in general...
Pelin Kırca holds an MFA in Design from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and a BFA degree in Graphic
Design from Bilkent University, Ankara. Her work has been exhibited at a number of venues in the USA,
Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, Japan, Switzerland and Portugal.
A white ceiling, with a white fluorescent strip light that keeps flickering, leads a young woman on a trip
down memory lane… She recalls her old habit of laughing when nervous. Sitting right across from the young
woman is her loving and protective mother. But when an unexpected truth about the young woman is
revealed to her mother, will this caring relationship remain so pure and untainted?
Derya Durmaz has a BA in Economics from Ankara Hacettepe University and an LL.M. in Human Rights Law from
Istanbul Bilgi University. She trained as an actress at the Studio Players Acting Studio in Istanbul. Her first
short film, Ziazan, screened at 25 international film festivals and won eight awards. As an actress, she had
roles in more than 10 feature films that have been shown at international festivals.

Zülküf, the village idiot, lives in an isolated rural town in eastern Turkey and works for his imam uncle at the
local mosque. His lonely routine comes to an end when he becomes fascinated with a mysterious woman.
The only problem is she is dead.
Pınar Yorgancıoğlu studied Communication Design at Bilkent University prior to beginning a career in film.
In Istanbul she co-founded the boutique production company, MakarnaFilm, worked as an AD for production
outfit Böcek Yapım, and made shorts and music videos before moving to New York to do an MFA at Columbia
University. She continues to write, direct, and edit on a freelance basis.

Alkım Özmen (1979) graduated from the Istanbul Bilgi University Film & TV Department with an M.A.

2006 he started working as an assistant director. He has since worked as first or second assistant director on

There was a man who fought during his entire life. He rode from one battle to another, journeying on
horseback. He was a brave soldier who fought with pride. But maybe it was time to watch the soldiers march
into the setting sun under the shade of the Weeping Willow. This animated short film is a free adaptation of
Nazım Hikmet Ran’s poem, “Weeping Willow”.
Ethem Onur Bilgiç (İnebolu, 1986) began studying graphic design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in
2007. He has designed cover pages and illustrations for magazines and book covers for publishing houses. He
has also designed posters for many festivals. His work has been shown in various national and international

How does a new discovery change history? In 1998, 13 obelisks were discovered by chance in Hakkâri, a
Kurdish city on the Turkish-Iraqi-Iranian border. To which civilization do they belong? In the course of research,
evidence of other civilizations is thrown up which includes: Dengbej musicians reciting the life of Hakkâri Beys,
relics of Nestorian culture, and rock carvings in the Cilo mountains dating from pre-Christian times.
Bahriye Kabadayı Dal (Istanbul, 1977) earned a bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television and Cinema from
Marmara University. She has been working as a documentary filmmaker since 1997. She founded the
production company, Tarçın Film, in 2013. She is a board member of the Association of Documentary
Filmmakers in Turkey (BSB) and the Babil Association for Artistic and Cultural Works.

This documentary is about the various communities of Midyat and Estel in southeastern Anatolia and explores
the way they live, their traditions and how they affect each other while speaking different languages and
adhering to different faiths. Apart from their struggles, the documentary conveys how interaction between
the communities leads to an improvement in each other’s lives.
Esra Alkan graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Archaeology. She started filmmaking alongside
the late director, Atıf Yılmaz and spent a while working for the state broadcaster, TRT. Uğraş Salman worked in

Devrim is a yoga instructor from Istanbul. During a therapy session, she discovers that one of the reasons
for her feelings of loneliness, her sense of not belonging and her resistance to having a family of her own is
inherited from her great grandfather, who was adopted by her Kurdish ancestors during the 1915 Armenian
emigration.
Devrim Akkaya is a yoga instructor in Istanbul. She has worked as a production and art direction assistant
on several short film projects. More recently, she has been working on storytelling and screenplay writing.
Diyar is her first film project as a director.

Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s was one of the biggest producers of film in the world even though its film
industry, Yeşilçam, didn’t have enough written material to start with. In order to keep up with demand,
screenwriters and directors copied scripts and remade movies from all over the world. Kaya met with the
fastest working directors, the most practical cameramen and the most hardheaded actors to gain a closer
insight into the country’s tumultuous history of movie making.
Cem Kaya is a documentary filmmaker from Berlin with a quirky interest in found footage work. He was
educated in cultural studies and trained as an editor. His films combine tense and often humorous storytelling
with extensive background knowledge of the issues he deals with.

Hadice Mehmedovic is a Srebrenica mother who lost her husband and two children in the Srebrenica
massacre. She returned to Srebrenica many years later to find the bodies of her children. Mirsad Duratovic
lost all his family members except his mother during the Prijedor massacre. He traveled back from Germany
to find his father’s body. Last year he found him in the Tomashnitsa mass grave and buried him.
Faysal Sosyal (Batman, 1979) completed MA degrees in film directing at Tehran Art University and in
Modern Turkish Literature at Van 100. Yıl University. He has made four short films which won international
awards. In 2008, he won a scholarship to attend New York Film Academy. His first feature film, Crossroads,
won 13 awards.

Zonguldak, a city of mines and miners; a city of people going underground to work in tough conditions,
sometimes at the cost of their lives... The city also has its fair share of illegal mines. Sigh describes the
ruthless struggle experienced in the illegal coalmines in the mountains of Zonguldak.
Metin Kaya (Zonguldak, 1962) has been making documentary films since 2007 after working for many years
as a documentary photographer. His first documentary, 100 Bin Kişiydiler (There Were 100 Thousand of
Them, 2009), chronicled the Zonguldak miners’ strike of 1990-91. This was followed in 2012 by Derin Çığlık
(Deep Scream), an account of the firedamp disaster that killed 263 miners in 1992.

Thirty years ago when she helped her close friend, Latife, while giving birth, Aso became known in the region
as a midwife. Years later, when Latife passes away, Aso embarks on her second profession and, at her friend’s
request, washes Latife’s body with her own hands. She has now become a corpse washer. For a while, she
combines both professions, but eventually drops midwifery in favor of just washing bodies.
Zekeriya Aydoğan (Diyarbakır, 1978) graduated from the Dicle University Faculty of Education. In 2009, he
joined the Mesopotamia Cinema Workshop. Between 2011-2014, he went on to work as coordinator of the
Mesopotamia Cinema Workshop.

Within China, there are seven Turkish-speaking peoples to this day: the Uighurs, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tatars,
Kyrgyzs, Yugurs and the Salars, who all live in the Xinjiang, Qinghai and Gansu provinces. This film sheds light
on the history, culture and traditions of the more than 10 million Turkish-speaking peoples living in these
ancient lands.
Zhang Lu Xing graduated from the Communication University of China and is a member of the China
Documentary Association, working as an independent director.

Through My Lens is a film about young people in Turkey struggling to make their voices heard. Over the
course of a year, 72 students set out to make short films on democracy and human rights in Turkey. As well
as showcasing their youthful approach to the important issues facing Turkey, the film highlights the huge
obstacles invariably created for them by the old establishment.
Nefin Dinç has an MFA degree in documentary filmmaking from the University of North Texas. She taught
documentary filmmaking at the State University of New York at Fredonia between 2005-2013. She has
produced six documentary films and is currently working on her new film, Memoirs of Antoine Köpe, a
documentary film on WWI in the Middle East.

this boarding school dream of becoming (Olympic, oil or folk) wrestling champions, as they face the usual
challenges of adolescence in a male dominated environment and contradictory contemporary Turkey.
Mete Gümürhan (Rotterdam, 1975) graduated from the Audio-Visual Design & Art Department of the Wil-
lem de Kooning Academy in 2009. He has produced/co-produced several award-winning shorts and feature
films, such as Aslı Özge’s Men on the Bridge, Adrian Sitaru’s The Cage and Willem Baptist’s I’m Never Afraid!
Most recently he co-produced Lifelong, the second feature by Aslı Özge, which premiered at the Berlinale in
2013. At the moment he is finalizing the docu-fiction, Young Wrestlers, which will mark his directorial debut,
and working on his second fiction film project, MNK Boy. He is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talent Campus,
IDFAcademy and Rotterdam Lab, and has been a member of the EAVE producers network since 2011.
