Dear Shomrei Family,

We would like to share an important update with you.

As you know, security for our shul and community has been a topic that captured much attention over the last year following unfortunate occurrences in our community and the greater Jewish world. Accordingly, while no specific threat to our shul had been identified, the Shomrei Emunah Board of Directors and Security Committee recently placed extra focus on ensuring that the security of our shul is at the appropriate level.

After several meetings and long discussions, talking to several industry experts and many shul members, and considering various options, the committee recommended progressing with the immediate hire of an armed off-duty police officer security guard at the shul for Shabbos and Yom Tov evenings and mornings. The Board of Directors voted overwhelmingly to accept this recommendation, and the guard will begin service this coming Shabbos. The guard will be contracted from Masada Tactical Protective Services, LLC, a company which specializes in shul security and already provides guards at other large shuls in our community and region.

Further, the Security Committee’s recommendation and board approval includes the locking of the social hall exterior doors. We appreciate the patience and understanding from our members whose walk into the building will become slightly longer due to the need to use the main entrance. Plans are underway to install a combination lock on one of the exterior social hall doors to enable immediate access for those who need it.

The members of the Security Committee will serve as the only liaisons with the security guard. If you have any input or suggestions for the guard, please only communicate your suggestion to a committee member, instead of to the guard himself. We also ask that you discuss this development with your children and teens, and remind them that the guard is someone who is serving an important role and does not have time while on duty to shmooze with shul members.

To cover the significant costs for the guard, a $50 minimum donation is suggested and encouraged from all member families who have the financial ability to participate. Contributions can be made via the shul website or by sending a check to the office.

IY’H this new measure of hishtadlus will be of tremendous benefit to our shul and membership. We daven that HKB’H will provide us with the ultimate shmira and ensure our continued safety and security.

The shul is looking to install additional lockers on the Social Hall side of the building. They will again each be available for $360 for lifetime use which will include a name plate, or $50 for a yearly rental.
