Dear Heavenly Father,I thank You for Your unconditional love for me. I know that I have made you sad in past when I heard your still small voice andI did the complete opposite of what I heard. You never ever gave up on me, even when I would have completely understood ifYou did. I speak the life of God to my spirit, soul, and body. I renounce all stubborn spirits in my life. Lord deal with every thingthat would try to keep my mind in bondage. I decree and declare that I am stable and steadfast in my calling and will not missthe high calling on my life because of attacks against my mind.

Help me to discern Your seasons and timings so that I may know Your heartbeat. Father, give me the eye of the Spirit that I mayknow how to navigate and maneuver in the things of the Spirit. Let the love of Christ shine from my soul so that men will be drawnto Jesus. You are my helper, and I thank You that I will not be deceived, pulled away, or caused to stray from the truth of YourWord.

I fear having a relationship with people without having a relationship with God. I am anointed to follow God wholeheartedly. Idecree that I am saved, sanctified, and satisfied.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Editor’sSalutation

Welcome family and friends to the “Real-Life Situations” Edition ofShofar Magazine!

Most of us gravitate to almost anything that we can relate to right? Well,in this issue I hope that you will be encouraged and find interestingfacts & truths that will provoke you to change the terms on the way youreveryday life situations are viewed. Allow the content to help you de-velop a since of clarity and purpose in your heart in mind. God hasmade an incredible promise about small groups of believers: “For wherethere are two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there intheir midst.” And family God is in the midst of the Shofar Magazine.

I pray that our publication provides real fellowship. In real fellowshippeople experience authenticity. Authentic fellowship is not superficial,surface-level chit chat. It is genuine, heart-to-heart, sometimes gut level, sharing. It happens when people get honest about who they are andwhat is happening in their lives. They share their hurts, reveal their feel-ings, confess their failures, disclose their doubts, admit their fears, ac-knowledge their weaknesses, and ask for help and prayer. Authenticityis the exact opposite of what you find in most magazines.

People wear masks, keep their guard up, and act like everything ispeaches and crème in their lives. These attitudes are death of realfellowship. Personally I have discovered it is only as we become moreopen about our lives that we experience real fellowship. The Bible says:“If we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship witheach other…If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves.” Theworld thinks intimacy occurs in the dark, but God says it happens in thelight; we bring them all out into the open and admit who we really are.

Being Authentic Requires Both Courage & Humility

It means facing our fear of exposure, rejection, and being hurt again. Ihear you, why would anyone take such a risk? Well family and friendsit is the only way to grow spiritually and be emotionally healthy. The Biblesays, “Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each otherand pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.”The Real-Life Situations Issue was comprised for the purpose of rubbingout mistakes, not rubbing in. We all need mercy, because we all stum-ble and fall and require help getting back on track. “Share each other’sproblems, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”

We only grow by taking risks, and the most difficult risk of all is to behonest with ourselves and others.

When you look in the mirror, what re-flection do you see? Is a confidentperson? or a person that is easilydefeated? Whatever reflection yousee is what you are going to exem-plify. One of the problems with manytoday is that we want to act in a waythat we do not even see ourselves. For years, I listened to other peo-ple’s thoughts about me. Peoplewould say that I was too dark or thatmy teeth were not straight enough, that my face was too flat… therewere so many things that were said.If I would have allowed what peoplesaid or what people say about me, Iwould live a lift of total defeat.

Are you allowing what people said orare saying get to you? If you are…STOP IT! Do not allow this to be adistraction in your life that preventsyou from pursuing all that God hascalled you to do.

You were made wonderful!

Everyone that was born has a beau-tiful and precious story to tell. I betwhen your parents saw you for thefirst time, there was nothing youcould do wrong in their eyes. Youwere the sparkle in their eyes thatput a huge grin on their faces. This

is how God our father sees us; weare the apple of his eye. We put asmile on His face when we are obe-dient to what he tells us to do. Don’tlet others try to tell you any different.Even if you’re wrong in your earthlyparents’ eyes, they may fuss at youor try to correct you by some type ofpunishment, or better yet, a warning. This is what our heavenly fatherwants to do with us when we messup. Yes, his grace covers us but hestill wants to love on us, as well asmake sure we don’t fall into thatsame mistake again.

Hebrews 12:6 It tells us the Lorddisciplines those he loves. The rea-son he does this is because heknows how special you are, you weremade in his image with power andthe ability to do better. He wants ourflesh to be crucified so that we willlead life with our spirit man insteadof our natural man. Now, this is akind of love that cannot be touched. It’s time to start seeing life fromGod’s view, simply because his ismadly in love with you!

Discontentment makes rich men poor while contentment makes poor men rich – Benjamin Franklin

CONTENTMENT

“Contentment is realizing that God has already provided everything I needfor my present and future happiness.”

Contentment comes as we realize thatGod is all we really need and He will neverleave us. We can be satisfied in Him,knowing that He is the Supplier of all ourphysical and spiritual needs. “Be contentwith such things as ye have: for He hathsaid, I will never leave thee, nor forsakethee” (Hebrews 13:5).

Contentment Must Be LearnedWe long for a better environment, assum-ing that with different surroundings we will

achieve contentment. Yet Adam and Evehad the perfect environment, and theywere not content in it. They had perfecthealth, a perfect garden, and daily fellow-ship with God Himself, yet they soon be-lieved the lie that God had not providedeverything they needed for their presentand future happiness. If Adam and Evewere not content in the Garden of Eden, what hope is there for us, apart from thespiritual insight that comes from God?May we, with Paul, be able to say, “Notthat I speak in respect of want: for I havelearned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content (Philippians 4:11).

There are few things in life that are reallynecessary. In fact, God identified just two:food and clothing. (I Timothy 6:8). If we arecontent with the basics of food and cloth-ing, we will never be content, no matterhow many things we obtain. God has

promised to provide for our needs; how-ever, He has not assured us that we willget all our wants. We have the tendencyto spend our resources on wants and thenworry about our needs. Jesus warnedabout such concern. “Therefore take nothought, saying, “What shall we eat? Or,what shall we drink? Or, where withal shallwe be clothed? (For after all these thingsdo the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Fa-ther knoweth that ye have need of all thesethings. But seek ye first the kingdom ofGod, and His righteousness: and all thesethings shall be added unto you” Mathew6:31-33

The more you and I release earthly pos-sessions, the more you and I can graspeternal treasures.

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” I Timothy 6:7

THE

If the spirit of Python can crush your hope, your visions, and your dreams youwill not have the intensity you need to'press on to the mark of the high callingof God in Christ.' This evil spirit wants todestroy God's plans and calling for yourlife. Python wants to rob you of your drive, motivation, and fight, and replace it withdiscouragement, hopelessness, and apa-thy.

True to its name sake, the spirit of Pythonwraps itself around its victims and suffo-cates the life out of them. This is truewhether the victim is an individual, a fam-ily, a business, a church, a community, oreven a nation. The spirit of Python lovesto 'play' with its victims by squeezingthem until their almost dead then releas-ing its grip somewhat, then squeezingagain, time and time again. Ultimatelybringing death. This is why one sees indi-viduals, families, businesses, churches, and communities that always seem to beon a roller coaster ride. Up one moment, down the next, success and prosperitytoday, failure and devastation tomorrow, only to rise up again, only to fall again. Each time they fall, they sink lower thanever before.

When the spirit of Python is working, thereis no real communion or fellowship. Therewill be isolation, cliques, and special in-terest groups. There is no real sharing orrejoicing, but lots of agitation, strife, con-tention, and a high level of defensive-ness. People will become fearful, weak, and weary. The people become so cynicalthey don't enjoy anything or anyone, in-cluding themselves.

Python seeks to break down God's planand purpose of the local church by de-stroying the divine order of authority. It isalways undermining the authority of thechurch, constantly causing havoc forthose in leadership. There will be no com-mitment to the Church or the Pastor.Doubt and unbelief will soon enter in; andpeople will begin to question their calling, their position, and their vision. People

controlled by the spirit of Python will wan-der from church to church, never becom-ing rooted, never established in a localbody.

The spirit of Python is the source of witch-craft and divination. Divination, the art ofobtaining secret knowledge, especially ofthe future, is a pagan counterpart ofprophecy. Python spirit is a diviner, falseprophet, a giver of false prophecy. Carefulcomparisons of scripture will reveal thatinspirational divination is by demonicpower, whereas genuine prophecy is bythe Holy Spirit of God. The biblical attitudetoward divination is distinctly hostile. InDeuteronomy 18:10-14, the prophet of Je-hovah is contrasted with diviners of allsorts and is set forth as the only author-ized medium of supernatural revelation.

Python is the spirit of divination which em-powers crystal ball readers, palm readers, tarot card readers, etc. to see into the fu-ture. This spirit has access to us if we ex-pose ourselves to any aspect of theoccult through movies, Ouija boards, hyp-nosis, seances, horoscopes, 'fun' for-tune-telling, occult rituals or chants, etc. This spirit causes people to focus on theprediction of future events. More atten-tion on the future, and less on the 'Now',a diversionary tactic that keeps peoplelooking to 'tomorrow' and never accom-plishing what God wants done 'today'.However, God wants us to daily seek andtrust Him.

The Python spirit is the spirit of Infirmity. This spirit can cause feebleness, frailty, arthritis, cancer, weakness, and manyother sicknesses and diseases.

There is a much more sophisticated typeof sorcery caused by this evil spirit. Thatis the sickness and death of many peoplethrough curses, spells, voodoo, incanta-tions, etc. People truly get sick and diethrough the 'words' and 'deeds' of othersthrough witchcraft. Many times, when peo-ple are sick and dying, and the doctors

are scratching their heads and saying, "Ijust don't know or understand what isgoing on", it will be the spirit of Pythonworking through divination and witchcraft.

Where Python is allowed to rule, there willbe an ever increase in the use of drugs. This could be drugs of any sort; illicitand/or prescription drugs.

In Revelation 18:23, it is talking about thejudgment that falls on 'Babylon, the greatcity' in the end times. Notice what it saysabout the sorcerers.

And the light of a candle shall shine nomore at all in thee; and the voice of thebridegroom and the bride shall be heardno more at all in thee: for thy merchantswere the great men of the earth; for by thysorceries (parmakeia - drugs, medications, magic, witchcraft) were all nations de-ceived. Revelation 18:23

The Python is at work

The drug cartels throughout this world arepushing their deadly illicit drugs ontoour streets like never before. They areincreasingly and openly becoming moreviolent in their actions against any onethat gets in their way. The pharmaceuticalcompanies and the medical associationsaround the world are throwing every con-ceivable drug possible at the populations. There is no real desire to bring relief andhealing to the hurting (with a few excep-tions), but an over whelming need to ma-nipulate and control the masses; make'money' and become 'wealthy'. The 'mindset' is, with unemployment on every hand, those who have been without jobs forsome time, will turn away from the churchand seek solace in drugs. Drug bars willtake care of the unruly and the discontentwould be revolutionaries will be turnedinto harmless addicts with no will of theirown.

from them. Where Python is in op-eration, the 'love of money' and the'fear of loss' is always present.

The ultimate purpose or goal of thespirit of Python is to crush and de-stroy the vision, dreams, and hopeof the Church and of the individualBeliever. The spirit of Python pro-motes divination, witchcraft, andrebellion. Python seeks to breakdown God's plan and purpose of thelocal church by destroying the divineorder of authority. The spirit ofPython will always draw attentionaway from Jesus and onto otherhuman beings, or 'self'. This de-monic spirit causes people to focuson the prediction of future eventsand away from 'Now, today'. Pythonis the source of many sicknessesand deaths of many people throughcurses, spells, voodoo, incanta-tions, etc. Where Python is allowedto rule, there will be an ever in-crease in the use of drugs. Thespirit of Python can constrict theflow of and can literally steal our fi-nances from us.

Good News, as born-again believers,we have absolute control and victoryover the spirit of Python, through theName and Shed Blood of our LordJesus Christ! Thank you Lord Jesus!

For I know the thoughts ( plans orpurposes) that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an ex-pected end. Jeremiah 29:11

From Vision to Investment toWOR L DW I D E I M PA C T : Visionary, Entrepreneur & Minister P. K. Mickens SharesHer Journey & Future Goals for SHOFAR MAGAZINE

By Anjeanette Alexander-Smith

We are all called to function in king-dom assignments. The journey that wetake to get there may have checkeredpaths and not-so-perfect landmarks. But life is not meant to be lived as per-fect. God designed our struggles to beblessings to others, an instructionalmanual on how to overcome, a divinedesign in which “he brought us outfrom thence, that he might bring us in.(Deut. 6:23)”

On July 7, 2010, in a prison cell, Godrevealed His prophetic vision to P. K.Mickens. Through the gift of writing, she would reach thousands through apublication that would create a plat-form for honest dialogue to take placeand for domestic violence to receivethe press it well deserved. She wouldbring people out from a sense of hope-lessness and despair into a placewhere their experiences would be-come the foundation for their eleva-tion.

For two years, P. K. wrote continuously, reflecting on how the publicationwould be an extension of the (D.I.P) adomestic violence nonprofit organiza-tion that she had started in 2008. Itwould give her the opportunity to pro-mote prevention. No one should haveto die again from domestic violence in

order for the community to be com-pelled to act.

P. K. was no stranger to starting newbusiness ventures. Since the age of15, she has been an entrepreneur, agame changer, a go-getter who was de-termined to make her own way in any-thing she pursued. Her experience asa Nail Technician & Real Estate In-vestor taught her how to communicatewith people in order to reach themwhere they were. Learning how to in-vest in people would be a people skillinstrumental in her God-given vision.

On July 7, 2012, P. K. launched ShofarMagazine, and it has been the mostimpactful endeavor she has everstarted. The magazine has allowedher to connect with so many people inthe music & entertainment fields aswell as in different ministries. Her in-terviews have enabled her to meetsuch celebrities, such as Tamela &David Mann, Lecrae, Emmitt Smith,Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Jennifer Hud-son, Boris Kodjoe, and Ray Lewis, justto name a few. She has been blessedto be featured on WJXT-Channel 4 sev-eral times.

Walking into a vision also has itschallenges. P. K. has encountered alack of support from those whomshe thought had shared her goalsfor the magazine. But through it all,Shofar Magazine has still carried outits mission. The mission hasevolved from one in which thetarget audience had beenChristians, but theneeds of the

people demanded a publishing plat-form that offered something for allwalks of life.

As Shofar Magazine prepares for a fu-ture in which its stories still feed thelost spiritually, mentally, and emotion-ally, P. K. Mickens envisions the publi-cation becoming America’s nextlargest magazine, a tool that societycould use to inspire them to become abetter version of themselves.

That is what kingdom people arecalled to do: to heal the broken-hearted and give them the wings torun their race. P. K. Mickens had moreto share about her journey and the fu-ture of Shofar Maga-zine in the followingQ & A session.

When we met, you promised me thatyou would never ever hurt me. I am re-membering the morning coffee youwould bring: clothes, money, vacations, flowers, whatever I wished you grantedit to me. “Time & Money wasn’t a thing”.

We have been friends for over twodecades; you were there for me whenothers saw the worst in me. I guessthat was the reason for the decision Imade to give you all of me, and eventhough you are still married yourheart’s desire was to be with only mefor eternity. It was all good just a fewweeks ago… you would call throughoutthe day, no particular reason just to sayhey baby! Then out of nowhere the ex-cuses came. The phone calls, textmessages, and time we normallyspend all of a sudden came to an end.

I got nervous and start asking allsorts of questions: Where haveyou been? Why didn’t you call?Do you desire to be with me atall? You reply: “Yes, baby you’reall I want. I am working trying topay all of our bills so I can con-tinue to give you anything youwant.

For some strange reason I feellike everything you say is all afront. Call me crazy, but you havebeen acting real shady lately.Deleting all your calls and texts, keeping your distance, not askingfor sex, complaining abouttoothaches and massiveheadaches, you even get angry ifI ask you why you are on edge…In the beginning you painted apicture so rare: if I agreed to bewith you, CHEATING ON ME youwouldn’t dare.

What would you do if I did theexact same things to you? All ofa sudden did not make time anytime for you. What else is thereleft for me to do? I have triedtalking to you; all you do is tellme how much I am a fool.Humph! A fool in love with you,who wants to believe that all ofthose fabricated stories you toldme are true. Why is it that you al-most have a nervous breakdownwhen I try to touch you? Whathas happened to us boo? I spent

the last two weeks in the bed, couldn’tfocus on anything else but you. I don’twant to let go, because it hurts meso…ooooohhhhhh! I want to believethat it’s me, just darn insecure andcrazy. Would you keep me as your ladyand continue to pay all my bills if por-trayed any of these shady signs in ourrelationship daily?

These are the signs of a boyfriend or husband that’sacting shady:

• He takes his phone with him everytime he goes to the bathroom.

• Every time you call him out onsomething (like why he went so MIAon text) he turns it around on you, saying you’re being clingy or crazy.

• He stops initiating sexy time.• Has your boyfriend or girlfriendstopped talking to you? Did your sig-nificant other always have things tosay, and has suddenly become dis-tant? Your relationship may be losingintimacy because your lover hasstarted a new one with someoneelse.

• When you pick up his phone to dosomething innocuous like check thetime he FREAKS OUT and snatchesit away from you.

• If you calmly and sincerely approachyour partner about the thought thatsomething seems off or makes youuncomfortable, and he or she lashesout and make you feel insecure orinsane, it’s because s/he is deflect-ing. A caring relationship involvestalking things out and caring aboutone another’s feelings and validatingthem, while trying to resolve an issuein a constructive and healthy way.

Watch carefully: does he or she be-come angry when you come over unan-nounced, or only text you when they areat home, never calling you? These arealso signs of a between-the-sheets be-trayal. For some reason, they do notwant you at their home at certaintimes, and they do not want to call youwhile they are at home.

Catch them in a lie. Casually ask aboyfriend or girlfriend where they weresuch and such day, and let them an-swer. Remember their answer, and askagain a few days later. If they are lyingconstantly, then they will have a hardtime keeping up. They may start to getangry with these simple questions, an-other big hint

Abuse comes in many different forms.

Emotional abuse is elusive. Unlike physical abuse, thepeople doing it and receiving it may not even know itshappening.

It can be more harmful than physical abuse because itcan undermine what we think about ourselves. It cancripple all we are meant to be as we allow something un-true to define us. Emotional abuse can happen betweenparent and child, husband and wife, among relatives andbetween friends.

The abuser projects their words, attitudes or actionsonto an unsuspecting victim usually because they them-selves have not dealt with childhood wounds that arenow causing them to harm others.

Even if there is no violence, abusive language can bevery damaging to you and your children. Common formsof emotional or psychological abuse are when yourpartner undermines your sense of self-worth by:

• constantly criticizing you, your intelligence, your looks, your parenting abilities, etc.

• calling you names, telling you that you are crazy, thatno one wants you, making fun of you in front of others, etc.

• damaging your relationship withyour children by getting the chil-dren to participate in the abuse(e.g., telling your children torefer to you by a nasty name),criticizing your children or forc-ing you to do so, telling the chil-dren that you are worthless, that they should not listen toyou, etc.

Other forms of psychological abuse are when your part-ner causes you fear by intimidation, threatens to harm tohimself/herself, abuses pets or destroys property, causes you to be isolated from friends, family, schooland/or work.

Emotional abuse leaves few physical scars. Its victimssuffer no broken bones, torn flesh or spilled blood. Still, those wounded might describe it as the most painful anddestructive form of domestic violence.

While statistics are elusive, experts agree that emotionalabuse—for mostly women, but some men as well—havereached epidemic proportions. And despite its everydayoccurrence, few of us recognize it, identify it or even doanything about it.

Are you in an emotionally abusive relationship?

Recognizing that there is aproblem is the first step
