(S.O.S) It means that as a marketer you spend money on new programs or training products because they come with promises you need to hear. A lot of these products are re-hashed, re- packaged and sold to the always looking for something new seeker. It seems that no matter how many times you hear about it you just can’t seem to avoid catching it one time or another. 1. I spent a year or so chasing shiny objects even after knowing that it’s not the way to build a business online. It’s hard to avoid it because the promises of great income or the over-stuffed value the product promises becomes so appealing that you just know that this is the one exception. If you are a brand new marketer and you have fallen to the mighty shiny object, take this as a REAL learning experience. One example I tell my new team members when warning them away from the shiny object syndrome is that a lot of these products or offers are good and you can learn from them but you will almost ALWAYS have to pay the seller more money to get the complete product. This can be through memberships or one time offers (OTO) upsells etc. The big takeaway with this rant is that if you find a product or training piece and are worried that it may just be a shiny object, do your due diligence and get reviews and educate yourself before buying. One good thing about these items are that most will come with a no questions asked money back guarantee. Finally, the biggest problem with the shiny object syndrome is that it takes time away from focusing and mastering the right product or program for you and ultimately delaying your income growth. 2. For every marketer it is very important to learn how your business works inside and out. This a lot of times becomes too overwhelming and causes you to quit before you really got started. Most of us have made this mistake but as long as you are aware of it you can control it. This is called information overload. You are so anxious to learn what needs to be done that you overload your brain and everything starts to run together and in the end you didn’t learn much of anything. That now became wasted time. An example we will look at is learning how to market your business. You will soon find out that there are endless ways to promote your business. This can be through Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Solo Ads, Bing PPC and so on. The list goes on and on. If you try to learn how to promote through all of these avenues you will get nowhere fast. Pick ONE way to promote and focus on that method until you master it. Then move on to another and master that one while continuing to use the previous methods. Soon enough you will have your business in front of so many people that you can be seeing new customers daily. With that said, the way to keep that flow of customers coming to your business is to NEVER stop marketing your business. That is called Taking Massive Action.
