One Day Off-Site for Volunteers (Janshikshak) of SHIKSHA⁺
On March 6, 2019, first ever off site was organized for volunteers (Janshikshak) of SHIKSHA⁺ in Lucknow, UP. It was a great learning experience for 48 participants.

Discussion initiated to start 5 new schools in Sikandrabad
+SHIKSHA Initiative is implementing its SHIKSHA programme in District Jail, +Gautam Buddha Nagar since May 2018. Likewise to commence SHIKSHA program
in Bulandshahr jail, Mr. Lalitendra Bhartiya, Deputy Project Manager, SHIKSHA
Initiative had a meeting with Mr. O.P. Katiyar, Jail Superintendent on March 29, 2019. +Lalitendra explained him about SHIKSHA program, its methodology, content used
and also shared about the batch which is successfully running in district jail, Gautam
Buddha Nagar. Mr. O.P. Katiyar has shown a keen interest in starting the adult literacy
program in his Jail by providing required support and infrastructure. First batch is
expected to be started in April 2019.
SHIKSHA⁺ Expansion in Bulandshahr Jail
Mr. Balveer Bhati, former Head of the Block, Sikandrabad with SHIKSHA Initiative team members
introducing ICT based SHIKSHA content in five schools of Sikandrabad. He also assured that all the five schools would run on government expenditure and SHIKSHA Initiative has to provide the content to be installed on govern-ment systems. The schools will be selected in the academic year 2019-20 and will begin the operations in July 2019.

Review Meeting with Planning Commission, UPSHIKSHA Initiative had a meeting with Planning Commission-UP at Yojana Bhawan, Lucknow on March 5, 2019. During the meet, officials of Planning Department- Lucknow, departments of different domains and development partners were present. SHIKSHA Initiative was asked to submit a three years 'Joint Monitorable Action Plan for UP state' to the Department of Basic
Education, UP. Various other develop-ment partners from different domains were also asked for the same. The meeting started with the review of the progress on the action plan submitted by the department with the support of the development partners. The Department of Basic Education submitted their 'three years Joint Monitorable Action Plan, UP' after compiling the individual plans
shared by SHIKSHA Initiative, SNF and TATA Trust. Mr. Mayank Sinha, Group Project Manager, SHIKSHA Initiative briefed the officials about the current progress of SHIKSHA Initiative.

One Day Off-Site for Volunteers (Janshikshak) of SHIKSHA⁺On March 6, 2019, first ever off site was organized for volunteers (Janshikshak) of
+SHIKSHA in Lucknow, UP. It was a great learning experience for 48 participants. They all travelled together from Sitapur to Lucknow, met the leaders of SHIKSHA Initiative, participated in different activities like dancing on beats, treasure hunt, building balloon chair, act and pass the information, know the challenges and achievement of your partner as a volunteer tutor. All the activities provided an opportunity to participants to unfold their talent and being self.
During the event, volunteers realized that how their efforts and contribution are helping the community to become literate. In the concluding session, participants shared that event has motivated them and has given new insights to continue their contribution for the big goal of eradication of illiteracy from their neighborhoods. One of the
interesting aspect of the visit was that most of the female participants have stepped out of their villages for the first time. At the end, medals were awarded as a token of appreciation to the volunteers who motivated learners for maintaining regular attendance and token of appreciation to all other participants.

Sports Day Celebration in Jail
Sports day was celebrated on February 9, 2019 in Gautam Buddha Nagar District Jail for inmates with an aim to provide them a friendly environment and engage them in constructive activities. The program was inaugurated by Mrs. Neelu Mainwal, Civil Judge, Sr. Division, Secretary DLSA, along with other government officials. Different games like volleyball, tug-of-war, chess etc. were organized. In the event, Vijay Anand Verma, Adult Literacy Head and Lalitendra Bhartiya, DPM represented SHIKSHA Initiative. On the occasion, the contribution of SHIKSHA Initiative was recognized by the Jail administration and Supt. (Jail) Mr. Vipin Kumar Mishra.

+SHIKSHA learners who displayed homemade spices like coriander, chili, turmeric and Garam masala powder etc. which were appreciated by all the visitors. Moreover, all the packets exhibited were sold out by the end of the event. They started this initiative
+after passing out from the SHIKSHA centre. In addition, products made from temple waste (ash) by prisoners of Gautam Buddha Nagar district jail were
also displayed for which they were trained by BIMTEC. Furthermore, Rakhi (Field Officer) prepared sketches for all the guests which were presented during the event. Roshni Nadar Malhotra (Trustee, SNF) appreciated the efforts of Rakhi and acknowledged her with a
certificate to appraise her efforts. Rakhi also displayed her sketches of Shri Shiv Nadar (Founder and Chairman, HCL and SNF) and others in the stall.
