The weeks before the December holidays are filled with music and book releases sure to please cul-ture lovers of all varieties. Here are a few of the most anticipated titles and their descriptions courtesy of Amazon.com.

BOOKS

“So, Anyway …” by John Cleese

In this rollicking memoir, Cleese takes readers on a grand tour of his ascent in the entertainment world, from his humble beginnings in a sleepy English town and his early comedic days at Cambridge University (with future “Monty Python” part-ner Graham Chapman), to the founding of the landmark comedy troupe that would propel him to worldwide renown. Available Nov. 4.

“Lila” by Marilynne Rob-inson

In this new American clas-sic from the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of “Gilead” and “Housekeeping,” one of the greatest novelists of our time returns to the town of Gilead in an unforgettable story of a girlhood lived on the fringes of society in fear, awe and wonder. Revisiting the beloved characters and setting of “Home,” “Lila” is a moving expression of the mysteries of existence that is destined to become an American classic, and is al-ready a National Book Award finalist. Available now.

“Mrs. Bradshaw’s Hand-book” by Terry Pratchett

Subtitled “to travelling upon the Ankh-Morpork & Sto Plains Hygienic Railway,” this beautifully produced gift-sized hardcover with black and white illustra-tions is Pratchett’s guide to the railways of his 40th Discworld novel, “Raising Steam.” Authorized by Mr. Lipwig of the Ankh-Morpork and Sto Plains Hygienic Rail-way himself, Mrs. Georgina Bradshaw’s invaluable guide to the destinations and di-versions of the railway de-serves a place in the luggage of any traveler, or indeed armchair traveler, upon the Disc. Available Nov. 25.

“The Strange Library” by Haruki Murakami

A fantastical illustrated short novel in which a lonely

boy, a mysterious girl and a tormented sheep man plot their escape from the nightmarish library of this internationally acclaimed, best-selling author’s wild imagination. Available Dec. 2.

“Revival” by Stephen King

A dark and electrifying novel about addiction, fa-naticism and what might exist on the other side of life. In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will trans-form the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs — including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this char-ismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief and is banished from the shocked town. Available Nov. 11.

MuSic

“1989” by Taylor SwiftThe seven-time Grammy

winner continues her rise to pop stardom with the her fifth album, “1989,” which she calls her most sonically

cohesive collection. The debut single, “Shake It Off,” was an immediate success, reaching No. 1 on the Bill-board Hot 100. After being released Oct. 27, “1989” is sure to be a hit with Swift’s many fans.

“Sonic Highways” by The Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters’ eighth album features eight songs that were recorded in some of America’s most iconic studios as the band traveled across the United States. Guest performers include Joan Jett, Rami Jaffee and Rick Nielsen. The making of the album, due Nov. 10, will be accompanied by an

as-yet untitled HBO series documenting the eight-city odyssey during which the record was created.

“Alpha Mike Foxtrot” and “What’s Your 20” by Wilco

band’s previously released studio recordings.
