• Nine (9) winners – three from each school category [elementary, middle, high school]
• A unique collection of art that truly expresses how students will address prejudice and stereotypes
• The start of a movement that inspires students to:• think about their actions regarding others• “stand up” to prejudice and encourage a
different resolution• Community enthusiasm to continue the event yearly• Expansion of the program to become a nationwide
and eventually a global event
Field Trips [Transportation]
Schools have to request field trips using the present processes and procedures in place today
Depending on the process in place, Embracing Differences will reimburse the school directly or the district/regional office for the expense
The exhibit is planned for November 2 through November 22 and may be visited during normal school hours reserved for field trips

• Write the word “Diversity” on a white board or flip chart
• Ask students how they feel about the word• Share with the students your experience in
life with the topic and why you think it is important
• Present the theme for the submission – Students Draw the Line Against Prejudice
• Entertain questions about what type of art piece they want to submit
• Explain the guidelines

• Start a conversation with the students about their experiences with diverse individuals
• Ask students to define the word• Ask the students to reveal the most difficult
aspect of being a standout• Share with the students your experiences in
life with the topic and why you believe it is important
• Introduce the theme – Students Draw the Line Against Prejudice Art Exhibit and Contest
• Explain the guidelines

• Divide the class into smaller groups of 5-6 people
• Ask how familiar they are with the TV show Family Guy
• Show the episode – To Live and Die in Dixie
• Have students answer questions regarding stereotyping as depicted in the episode
• After the exercise, approach the students with the idea of the art exhibit and contest

• Commitment to the project via submission forms
• Permission slips from parents for students who intend to participate
• Permission to announce and publicize the event on school websites, newspapers, and other social media sites.
• For Social Media sites, especially Facebook, invite your “friends” to like us. This spreads the word and garners support for the event
