BEGINNING SEWING with Britta Hellquist, tailor & couturier. $319 FOR SERIES; $109 each level (includes patterns & handouts) LEVEL 1: Monday-Thursday, July 9-12, 10 am-1 pm LEVEL 2: Monday-Thursday, July 16-19, 10 am-1 pm LEVEL 3: Monday-Thursday, July 23-26, 10 am-1 pm Learn basic stitches, techniques and how to use your machine while making an apron (Level 1), robe (Level 2) and nightshirt (Level 3). Step up your skills with each level. Learn to use commercial patterns, layout and cut fabric.

SHOEMAKING: ESPADRILLES with Koko Wright, SigmaDesigns $149 (includes kit with pattern, fabric, needles, thread, soles) Saturday, July 7, 2-5 pm. A PFI Sip-n-Sew event! It’s a perfect Summer shoe. No need to spend $$ for special equipment. Learn to make an espadrille that you can easily make on your own with minimal time and tools and your home sewing machine. Snacks & beverages included!

SERGERY with Lisa Silveira, Wandering Muse. $149 Includes kits Saturdays, June 2-23, 2-5 pm — OR — Saturdays, July 14, 21 & 28, 2-5 pm Find out all your serger can do. Learn parts of a serger, how to thread and manage tensions and fix problems. Make a stitch notebook, tote, and knit top.



MENSWEAR TIES with Britta Hellquist, tailor & couturier. $169 4 sessions: Monday-Thursday, July 9-12, 6-9 pm Learn the basics of making ties from scratch. Discover types of interfacing, and different construction methods for making a tie. Make standard neckties, a bowtie + pocket square.

MAKE YOUR BODY DOUBLE with Debra Bruneaux, Portland Opera. $149 3 sessions: Saturdays, July 14, 21 & 28, 2-5 pm Bring your professional dress form and alter it to fit you the way the pros do. Learn the tricks and materials from Portland Opera fit expert, Debra Bruneaux. In 3 sessions, you will leave with your body double. Sign up for this class and get 10% off your dress form from PFI.

PATTERN INTRO 2 with Anne Swanson, PFI. $349 8 sessions: Monday-Thursday, July 9-12 & July 16-19, 6-9 pm Bring slopers and learn the professional way to manipulate patterns - from tops to pants and skirts - to create the designs of your dreams. Perfect for fashion designers or for personal use.

BRA PATTERN & CONSTRUCTION with Lisa Silveira, Wandering Muse. $349 8 sessions: Monday-Thursday, July 9-12 & July 16-19, 10 am-1 pm Uncover the mysteries of bra making. Learn about different types of bras, fabric & notions, fit, style lines and construction methods. Learn to draft and sew your own custom sized bra. Get the fit you want and create the styles you love.

SEWING CAMPS. $120/person (includes patterns, handouts, sewing machine) •Camp 1: Monday-Thursday, July 9-12, 10 am-1 pm. Learn to use a sewing machine. Learn how to sew straight lines and hems. Make a sleepover pillowcase and drawstring bag. •Camp 2: Monday-Thursday, July 16-19, 10 am-1 pm. Make PJ pants and a pouch that’s perfect for a smartphone. •Camp 3: Monday-Thursday, July 23-26, 10 am-1 pm. Girls Make a twirly skirt. Sew on elastic. Add trims and sparklies. Boys make a messenger bag. Wear or take your new garment home.

FASHION DESIGN CAMPS. $120/person (includes handouts, sewing machine). Choose Camp 1, 2 or 3. Or if you have lots of ideas, all 3! Cut and paste a mood board. Then make simple sketches to create a trend-appropriate look to showcase your style as a designer. Use one of your sketches to make your own fashion garment. Wear your garment home. We’ll take pictures of your FABULOUS design. Announcing the Tricia Langman collaboration

PFI is pleased to announce a collaboration with one of the nation’s rising textile designers, Tricia Langman. British-born Langman has designed for Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Halston and Donna Karan. Her collections have been featured at the Costume Institute in New York City. She created a hand-painted gown for Celine Dion to wear at the Grammy’s. Locally, she created a collection for Pendleton. This summer for PFI she teaches three weekend textile design workshops:

Hand painting and dyeing July 14-15, 9:30 am-3:30 pm

Fabric printing July 21-22, 9:30 am-3:30 pm

Sculptural effects July 28-29, 9:30 am-3:30 pm

TRICIA LANGMAN COLLABORATION WORKSHOPSHAND PAINTING AND DYEING Saturday-Sunday, July 14-15, 9:30 am-3:30 pm $249 (includes kit) Textile composition, color and materials and inspiration boards. Use dyeing techniques of the past to create scarfs and fabrics. Learn tie-dye and hand painting techniques, shibori, over-dyeing, rust dyeing, vegetable dyeing and batik.

FABRIC PRINTING Saturday-Sunday, July 21-22, 9:30 am-3:30 pm $249 (includes kit) Fabric printing techniques. Composition and repeat patterns. Produce fabric samples, a length of fabric and create surface designs suitable for garments or home decor. Learn screen-printing, stenciling and devoré, Japanese katazome printing, block and mono printing techniques.

SCULPTURAL EFFECTS & OPEN STUDIO Saturday-Sunday, July 28-29, 9:30 am-3:30 pm $249 (includes kit) Pleat, crinkle, drape, twist, fold and use sculptural effects and heat embossing to create sculpturally experimental fabrics. Open studio project: Students have the opportunity to explore further all the techniques they have learned over the past two weekends — screen-printing, shibori and batik — to produce a length of fabric or a decorative art piece.
