Object-based storage pools

Massive increase in Deduplication scale
New storage pool: TYPE=DEDUP
Design goals:
• Server side changed from post process to in-line deduplication
• 1 PB stored, 4 – 5 PB protected - Internal DB2 DB under 4TB
• 100 TB* daily ingest, deduplicate, replicate
• Optimized for replication, no need for reclamation
Spectrum Protect databasedowntime reduced /
eliminated
• Online DB2 reorg
• New schema greatly reduces DB2 entries, reducing size/growth of DB2
Better suited for cloud use cases
• New storage pool avoids costly background processing (reclamation, 'garbage collection’ for deletion)
• I/O only for needed data (deduplicated chunks)
• May help manage cloud costs for data at rest and cost of data read/write
Next Generation Deduplication
• Software defined alternative to deduplication appliances
• Key technology for cloud use cases
• Flexibly scalable, highly available
*100TB design goal as measured using client side deduplication
