Football NewsPrimary FootballOn the 1st December Australian International School came to play Sharjah English School in three friendly matches. We put out two mixed Year 3 and 4 teams and one mixed Year 5 and 6 to give the children an opportunity to show off all the skills and tactics they have learnt in their games lessons and after school football clubs.
In a closely fought contest the Year 5 and 6 team narrowly lost 2 – 0 against a more technically gifted opposition. Ably refereed by none other than own Mr. Smithard, the boys battled for the whole game but couldn’t find that elusive goal. The Man of the Match was awarded to Goalkeeper Matthew Bates from 6KS for some truly outstanding saves!
The Year 3 and 4 A team drew 1 – 1 with Yassin from 4PS scoring a blinder for the home team. The man in black was Mr. Gill who had to referee a fiercely contested football match. It was a real team effort and everyone played their best. Man of the Match was given to Aziz Chassebi from 3JG for some outstanding tackling and tireless running from midfield.
The Year 3 and 4 B team, again refereed by Mr. Gill, won their match 1 – 0 with a dramatic last-minute winner from Zaki ‘Lightening’ Youcef from 4PS. Dribbling past three players he coolly curled the ball into the top right hand corner from 20 yards, much to the delight of the ecstatic home crowd! Zaki was also awarded the Man of the Match award for all round effort and scoring that super goal! The boys played as a team and must be congratulated on a great all round performance.

Football NewsPrimary FootballMr Gill took the Year 4 football team to Chouifait School in Sharjah for an away match. We played very well but unfortunately lost the game 3 – 0. It was a real end to end match and both sides had plenty of chances. How SES didn’t score we will never know! The boys played brilliantly and we were all very impressed with their effort and attitude towards the game. Man of the Match was awarded to Cris from 4AS for his tireless work up front. The team was superbly supported by parents and siblings and everyone had a great time.

NetballSES Vs English InternaConal School JumeriahSES seniors had the first of their league games this season against EIS Jumeriah. Although they got off to a disappoin;ng start the girls tried to the very end. The score line of 22 – 12 to EIS Jumeriah, doesn’t show the determina;on of the SES girls, who played with great teamwork and strength. The Year 9 girls were very unfortunate with the result of their game as they too lost to EIS but it was only by 1 point. The Year 9 girls lead the whole game by 2 points but it was only in the final quarter when EIS manage to sneak back and steal the lead.
SES – Victoria English SchoolSES played against their neighbouring school VES in a friendly, with teams from Yr9 and Yr10. It was the first game of the season for the Yr 10 girls and it was a very impressive performance. Captain Robyn Boulton lead the show scoring the opening points and the girls held the lead for the majority of the game, but unfortunately VES managed to change the score line in the last minutes of the game, and we lost 13-‐11. As for Yr 9 they played outstandingly well against VES with great teamwork. Their score hit double figures and eventually reached 17 – 3, a very remarkable performance from all the girls.
The SES teams had another outstanding performance against VES, with both our teams finishing with a win. Year 7, in their first game of the season, managed to score a total of 7 points and kept VES to only one score. Year 8 also showed to be the stronger side with an impressive win 16 – 0, with great play from Jenny (GS) and Safiya (WD). The girls showed great teamwork and impressive skill and deserved such a tremendous win – their biggest margin of victory ever.
SES – Dubai BriCsh SchoolOur grade 6 girls played their 2nd game of the season against DBS. Although this ;me they were not as successful they did play brilliantly as a team. They worked hard throughout the en;re game, showing good skill and technique. The finishing score was 14 – 4, but this doesn’t show how well the girls played. From week to week they are developing well, which is deligh]ul to see.
