Charter Day celebrations of Rotary Club of Central Calcutta were held on the 13th of August 2017 at ‘Raize the Bar’ – a restaurant in Salt Lake. The event was attended by PDG and Charter Secretary Raju Rajgaria, Charter members, Past Presidents, members, guests and newly inducted Rotarians. After the regular weekly meeting, the program for the day began. The char- ter members of the club were felicitated President CA Girish Ganeriwala and members of RC Central Calcutta WELCOME members of RC Calcutta Millennium led by President Chaitali Das Today’s Program Charter Day Celebrated by presenting them with a unique and innovative name depicting their charac- teristic and a specially designed gift on the occasion. Then the Past Presidents were felicitated and honoured for their contribution to the growth of the club over the years. PP Chandra Prakash Ganeriwala car- ried on the proceedings further. He in his own amazing oratorical manner and style anchored the rest of the show by RWM jointly with RC Calcutta Mil- lennium to be followed by screening of a short movie – Return of One Idiot, by renowned Director Amol Gupte of Tare Zameen Par fame. This will be followed by dinner - Ben- gali Cuisine, specially arranged to coincide with the spirit of the Pujas round the corner. Sat, 9th Sep: Drawing & Essay Compe-tition at Howrah Siksha Sadan for Girls near Mullick Fatak, Howrah Maidan was held under the supervision of Pres-ident, CA Girish Ganeriwala & First Lady Alka Ganeriwala. Awards were given to students.Principal Ms Nirmala and the teachers were very supportive and appreciated the initiative taken by Rotary Central Calcutta.They have assured to give time in their Morning Prayer to address 1500 girl stu-dents on Health, Hygiene (Water, Sani-tation).

President Girish and President Sanjay Dugar of Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar discussed in detail about the Mera Swachh Vidyalaya proj-ect (1st-15th September), installation of water huts across the city, affiliation of a new RCC in Tarakeshwar and the need to focus on adult and e-literacy.

n Sapling DistributionOur club distributed 1200 fruit tree sap-lings to the villagers at RCC Bhanderha-ti (Hooghly) on 12th August. Under the chairmanship of IPP Sanjay Ganeriwa-la, President Girish, Alka Ganeriwala and Brij Gopal Kothari planted some saplings and distributed the rest.

n Inauguration of Water Hut

Water is the lifeline of the human race and serving water to a thirsty is the big-gest service to humanity.In continuation of its service to Society, a water hut with cold filtered water is in-stalled at Bhaithakkhana, dedicated to the people of hot and humid Kolkata, to quench their thirst. Members are request-ed to please join on Sunday, 24th October 2017 at 10.30 hrs at 114/1 Bhaithakkha-na Road, Kolkata 700009, near Amherst Street Post Office, for its inauguration by District Governor Brojo Gopal Kundu along with Councillor Smt Soma Chaud-huri of Ward 37 with President CA Girish Ganeriwala. This is the 2nd Water Hut dedicated to the people of Kolkata by Ro-tary Club of Central Calcutta and is pro-vided by PP Rajesh Lakhotia of Raychand Lakhotia & Sons in loving memory of his father Late Ram Gopal Lakhotia.Another water hut is also complete.It will be inaugurated by Shri Subra-ta Mukherjee, Hon’ble Minister, Govt of West Bengal and Shri Sukhdev Chakraborty, Councillor, Ward 69. This was started during the previous year by IPP Sanjay Ganeriwala, who has under-taken to maintain it, through his com-pany Standard Vulcanising Corporation.

n Puja ParikramaFor the under privileged children of Red Light area will be done by our club, on 26th September 2017. The program will start from Chittranjan Avenue near Re-covery Nursing Home. Chairman for this wonderful project is PP S R Jhawar, who has been doing this project for time im-memorial.For Senior Citizens – for the 10th year in continuation, this program for senior citizens is being done by Rotary clubs. They will be taken out in a bus for puja parikrama and will be presented with garments also. This is a joint project where RC Central Calcutta is the host club, RC Calcutta Maidan and RC Dal-housie are the lead clubs.

n Diwali DhamaalDiwali Meet at Central Calcutta is al-ways a much awaited programme not only by members but by Anns as well. This year we have zeroed the date to Sat-urday the 14th October 2017. Various ideas are being churned out. The Award was given by Smt Mamata Banerjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, in a glittering ceremony on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, September 5, 2017 at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata.

RI Board has voted to appoint PRID Julia D Phelps, Ro-tary District 7930, as a Rotary Foun-dation Trustee. She will take the place of RIPE Bar-ry Rassin and will serve up to 30th June 2020.
